Thermosetting matrix composites have disadvantages in terms of moulding time, repairability and manufacturing cost. Thus the high-performance thermoplastic composites to eliminate such disadvantages have been developed so far. As a result of environmental and economical concerns, there is a growing interest in the use of thermoplastic composites. However, since their mechanical properties are very sensitive to the environment such as moisture, temperature etc., those behaviors need to be studied. Particularly the temperature is a very important factor influencing the mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composites. The effect of temperature have not yet been fully quantified. Since engineering applications of reinforced composites necessitate their fracture mechanic characterization, work is in progress to investigate the fracture and related failure behavior. An approach which predicts the tensile strength was perpormed in the tensile test. The main goal of this work is to study the effect of temperature on the result of tensile test with respect to GF/PE composite. The tensile strength and failure mechanisms of GF/PE composites were investigated in the temperature range 6$0^{\circ}C$ to -5$0^{\circ}C$. The tensile strength increased as the fiber volume fraction ratio increased. The tensile strength showed the maximum at -5$0^{\circ}C$, and it tended to decrease as the temperature increased from -5$0^{\circ}C$. The major failure mechanism was classified into the fiber matrix debonding, the fiber pull-out, the delamination and the matrix deformation.

This study was examined the tensile strength change of a circular tubular member with artificial sectional damage on its surface to consider surface sectional damage by corrosion. The tensile strength tests were conducted using circular tubular specimens with artificial sectional damage considering sectional damaged height and width on its surface according to the corrosion level. From the tensile strength test results, it is confirmed that tensile strength of the circular tubular specimens was affected by the damaged circumference (damaged width), not damaged length (damaged height) and their tensile failures were appeared at the minimum section of the artificial sectional damage part. Nonlinear finite-element analyses were conducted considering equivalent sectional damage effect on sectional damaged part in tensile specimens to examine the change in the tensile strength of tubular specimens with artificial sectional damage since it is difficult to estimate the sectional damaged surface condition of the specimens clearly. From the nonlinear finite element analysis results for the tensile test specimens, tensile strengths of test specimens with irregular sectional damaged surface were relatively evaluated to be highly decreased than these of FE analysis model with equivalent sectional damage. Therefore, residual tensile strengths of tensile members with irregular sectional damage as local corrosion can be evaluated and predicted using correlation coefficient between tensile test results and FE analysis results with equivalent sectional damage.
A newly developed Advanced Indentation System (AIS), which is a portable and nondestructive system for evaluating tensile properties, was used to measure mechanical behavior of materials used under high temperature and pressure conditions. This test measures indentation load-depth curve during indentation and analyzes the mechanical properties related to deformation and fracture. Aging effects of Cr-Mo and Cr-Mo-V steel at high temperature were simulated. Tensile properties including yield strength and tensile strength at various temperature are obtained from the test. For all test materials and conditions, the AIS-derived results were in good agreement with those from conventional standard test method. Examples of the test results ate given and potential applications of the AIS to assess the integrity of aging structures are briefly discussed.
Scaffolds protect the sensor in the body. Scaffolds are made of a bioabsorbable polymer. The polymer process is sensitive to humidity. Inside of the 3D printer has been improved to control the humidity. Specimens were produced by injection molding and 3D printer. 3D printed specimens were printed under various humidity conditions. We measured tensile strength of the injection-molded specimen and tensile strength of the 3d printing specimen. We compared tensile strength of the injection-molded specimen and tensile strength of the 3d printing specimen. Tensile strength of the injection-molded specimen is 557 kgf/cm2. We confirmed tensile strength of the specimen was highest at 741 kgf/cm2 when the humidity was 10 %. We confirmed lower the humidity, higher tensile strength of the polymer product.

PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the zirconia surface architecturing technique (ZSAT) on the bond strength between veneering porcelain and zirconia ceramic. MATERIALS AND METHODS. 20 sintered zirconia ceramic specimens were used to determine the optimal surface treatment time, and were randomly divided into 4 groups based on treatment times of 0, 1, 2, and 3 hours. After etching with a special solution, the surface was observed under scanning electron microscope, and then the porcelain was veneered for scratch testing. Sixty 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal ceramic blocks were used for tensile strength testing; 30 of these blocks were surface treated and the rest were not. Statistical analysis was performed using ANOVA, the Tukey post-hoc test, and independent t-test, and the level of significance was set at ${\alpha}=.05$. RESULTS. The surface treatment of the zirconia using ZSAT increased the surface roughness, and tensile strength test results showed that the ZSAT group significantly increased the bond strength between zirconia and veneering porcelain compared to the untreated group (36 MPa vs. 30 MPa). Optimal etching time was determined to be 2 hours based on the scratch test results. CONCLUSION. ZSAT increases the surface roughness of zirconia, and this might contribute to the increased interfacial bond strength between zirconia and veneering porcelain.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the bond strength between old and new concrete as well as flexural tensile strength of concrete. To achieve this purpose, a comprehensive experimental program has been set up and strength tests using a series of specimens have been carried out. The present study represents that the flexural bond strength between old and new concrete is much smaller than that of flexural tensile strength. The ratio of bond strength to flexural tensile strength ranged through 15~27%. It is seen that concrete-to-concrete bond strength has been affected by curing condition. Also, test results of tensile strength show that recommendation by ACI 363 committee is estimated to be more realistic than another recommendations for predicting tensile strength of concrete.
In general, structural integrity of rolling stock structures should last more than 25 years. During the lifetime corrosive degradation occurs. For structural design and diagnosis, quantitative relationship between corrosive degradation and variation of mechanical properties such as tensile strength and fatigue strength is needed. In this study, first of all we established the atmospheric corrosion test procedure. At regular intervals using specimens of SM490A and SS400 on the atmospheric corrosion test bed, we carried out tensile and fatigue tests. The fatigue strength decreases as the atmospheric corrosion period increases. In addition we studied the effect of post-weld heat treatment on the tensile and fatigue behaviour and performed electrochemical corrosion tests.

This paper prescribed the structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to tensile pre-strain. The effects of pre-strain on the mechanical properties of API 5L X65 pipe were substantially investigated through a variety of the experimental procedures. Axial tensile pre-strain of 1.5, 5 and 10% was applied to plate-type tensile specimens cut from the pipe body prior to mechanical testing. Tensile test revealed that yield strength and tensile strength were increased with increasing tensile pre-strain. The increasing rate of the yield strength owing to the pre-strain is greater than that of the tensile strength. However, the pre-strain up to 5% had a little effect on the decreasing of the fracture toughness. The structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to large plastic deformation was evaluated through the fitness-for service code.

The tensile strength test and the analysis for the section of brazing were performed in the cases of materials used for combustion chamber of regeneratively cooled liquid rocket engine. BNi-2 and BNi-7 based on nickel were used for brazing as filler metal. The properties of material and filler metal were analyzed by tensile strength test and metal microscope for 12 specimens. The tensile-strength of brazing for chrome-copper alloy and other kinds of alloy was higher than that of chrome-zirconium-copper alloy and other kinds of alloy The tensile strength in the case of BNi-2 as filler metal was higher than that of BNi-7 because the wetting property of BNi-2 was better than that of BNi-7.
The effect of various environmental conditions on the durability of E-glass fiber/vinylester resin composites have been investigated using the tensile test specimen of strand type. It was found that the durability test method performed by the stand type specimen was more convenient and reliable than other conventional test method. The weight gains increased with the immersion time in both water and alkaline solution, and the Weight gains at $50^{\circ}C$. were much bigger than those at $20^{\circ}C$ in both conditions. The tensile strength decreased with the pass of immersion time in all aqueous solution, and the tensile strength at $80^{\circ}C$ in alkaline solution decreased very steeply at beginning of immersion time. The decrement of tensile strength according to the immersion time in various environmental conditions was mainly caused by the degradation of interface and the damage of glass fiber surface.
