Nucleate boiling experiments with constant wall temperature of heating surface were performed using R113 for almost saturated pool boiling conditions. A microscale heater array and Wheatstone bridge circuits were used to maintain a constant wall temperature condition and to measure the heat flow rate with high temporal and spatial resolutions. Bubble images during the bubble growth were taken as 5000 frames a sec using a high-speed CCD camera synchronized with the heat flow rate measurements. The geometry of the bubble during growth time could be obtained from the captured bubble images. The bubble growth behavior was analyzed using the new dimensionless parameters for each growth regions to permit comparisons with previous results at the same scale. We found that the new dimensionless parameters can describe the whole growth region as initial and later respectively. The comparisons showed good agreement in the initial and thermal growth regions. The required heat flow rate for the volume change of the observed bubble was estimated to be larger than the instantaneous heat flow rate measured at the wall. Heat, which is different from the instantaneous heat supplied through the heating wall, can be estimated as being transferred through the interface between bubble and liquid even with saturated pool conditions. This phenomenon under a saturated pool condition needs to be analyzed and the data from this study can supply the good experimental data with the precise boundary condition (constant wall temperature).
In this paper, multi-region based Radial Graph Convolutional Network (MRGCN) algorithm which can perform end-to-end action recognition using the optical flow and gradient of input image is described. Because this method does not use information of skeleton that is difficult to acquire and complicated to estimate, it can be used in general CCTV environment in which only video camera is used. The novelty of MRGCN is that it expresses the optical flow and gradient of the input image as directional histograms and then converts it into six feature vectors to reduce the amount of computational load and uses a newly developed radial type network model to hierarchically propagate the deformation and shape change of the human body in spatio-temporal space. Another important feature is that the data input areas are arranged being overlapped each other, so that information is not spatially disconnected among input nodes. As a result of performing MRGCN's action recognition performance evaluation experiment for 30 actions, it was possible to obtain Top-1 accuracy of 84.78%, which is superior to the existing GCN-based action recognition method using skeleton data as an input.
The dual-mode strategy has been adopted in many constrained MPC methods. The size of stabilizable regions of states of MPC methods depends on the size of underlying feasible and positively invariant set and number of control moves. These results, however, could be conservative because the definition of positive invariance does not allow temporal leave of states from the set, In this paper, a concept of periodic invariance is introduced in which states are allowed to leave a set temporarily but return into the set in finite steps. The periodic invariance can defined with respect to sets of different state feedback gains. These facts make it possible for the periodically invariant sets to considerably larger than ordinary invariant sets. The periodic invariance can be defined for systems with polyhedral model uncertainties. We derive a MPC method based on these periodically invariant sets. Some numerical examples are given to show that the use of periodic invariance yields considerably larger stabilizable sets than the case of using ordinary invariance.
Application of proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) is introduced to study wind speed and building roof pressures of flow separation region. In this study, a detailed analysis of the approach wind flow, wind-induced building pressure and the relation between the two fields was carried out using the POD technique and CWT analysis. The results show potential of the application of POD and CWT in characterization of spatio-temporal and spectral properties of the approach wind and its induced dynamic pressure events. Some of findings resulting from the application of this analysis can be summarized as follows: (1) The POD first principal coordinate of the roof pressure in the separated shear layer is closely correlated with the longitudinal component of oncoming flow. (2) The CWT analysis suggests that the extreme peak pressure in the separated shear layer is due to condensed large-scale eddy motions.
A numerical study is performed to investigate the interaction between subsonic axial turbine blade boundary layer and periodically oncoming rotor induced wakes. An implicit scheme for solving the compressible Navier-Stokes equation is developed, which adopts a 4th-order compact difference for spatial discretiztion, a 2nd order Crank-Nicolson scheme for temporal discretization and the dynamic eddy viscosity model as the subgrid scale model. The efficiency and the accuracy of the proposed method are verified by applying to some benchmark problems such as laminar cylinder flow, laminar airfoil cascade flow and a transitional flat plate boundary layer flow. Computational results show good agreements with previous experimental and numerical results. Finally, flow through a stator cascade is simulated at $Re = 7.5{\times}10^5$ without free-stream turbulence intensity. The velocity fields and skin friction coefficients in the transitional region show similar trends with previous boundary layer natural transition.

The dual-mode strategy has been adopted in many constrained MPC (Model Predictive Control) methods. The size of stabilizable regions of states of MPC methods depends on the size of underlying feasible and positively invariant sets and the number of control moves. Although regional and myocutaneous flaps are still the standard in head and neck reconstruction. The capacity to transfer distant tissues by microsurgical technique expands the reconstructive surgeon's ability to restore severe deformities of the head and neck. From 1981 to 1985, thirteen patients with extensive defects of the head and neck after extirpative surgery of tumor have been reconstructed utilizing the technique of microsurgical composite tissue transplantation. In this series of patients, six presented with reconstructions in the different region of the head and neck with review of literatures. The results of case analysis are summarized as follows: 1) Transplantation was successful in twelve among thirteen patients (92%). 2) Seven patients presented with malignancy and six with benign tumor. 3) Frequent sites of reconstruction were face and mandible. 4) Fourteen free composite tissue transplantations for reconstruction of thirteen patients were obtained six different tissue compositions from eight different donor sites. 5) The recipient artery and vein was most often superficial temporal or facial vessels. 6) The average time of operation was ten hours.

The solidification process of Al 4.5%Cu alloy is numerically studied in the presence of contact resistance between mold and cast. Natural convection is considered in the liquid and mushy regions. The porosity approach is applied to the mushy zone modeling and linear variation of the solid fraction on the temperature is assumed. Results show that the mushy region is wider in the case with a contact resistance compared to the perfect contact condition. The temperature of the cast with a temporal variation in the contact heat transfer coefficient changes very rapidly in the early stage of the casting process compared to that with constant contact heat transfer coefficient.

A storm-induced coastal inundation model (SICIM) is presented to simulate the flood event during typhoon passage that often results in significant rise in sea-level heights especially in the upstream region of the basin. The SICIM is a GIS-based distributed hydrodynamic model, both storm surge and storm water inundations are taken into account. The spatial and temporal distribution of the storm water level and flux are calculated. The model was applied to Jeju Island since it has an isolated watershed that is easy to handle as a first step of model application. Another reason is that it is surrounded by coastal area exposed to storm surge inundation. The model is still advancing and will be the framework of a predictive early inundation warning system.

In the present work the influence of various physical parameters on the two-phase flow behavior in a self-heated porous medium has been studied using a numerical model, that is, the effects of heat generation rate, of porosity, of particle size, and of system pressure on the dryout process. To analyze the effect of these parameters, the variation of both liquid volumetric fraction and liquid axial velocity is evaluated at the steady state or at the onset of a first boiled-out region. The analysis of computational results indicate that a qualitative tendency exists between the parameters such as heat generation rate, porosity, effective particle diameter and the temporal development of the liquid volumetric fraction field up to dryout. In addition to these parameters, a variation of fluid properties such as phase density, phase viscosity due to a change of system pressure can be used for gaining insight into the nature of two-phase flow behavior up to dryout.
