  • The interest of version management is increasing in electronic commerce requiring data mining and documents processing system related to digital governmentapplications. In this paper, we define a change set that is to manage historicalinformation and to maintain XML documents during a long period of time and propose several storage policies of XML documents using a change set. A change set includes a change oper-ation set and temporal dimensions and a change operation set is composed with schema change operations and data change operations. We pro-pose three storage policies using a change set. Three storage policies are (1) storing all the change sets, (2) storing the change sets and the versions periodically. (3) storing the aggregation of change sets and the versions at a point of proper time. Also, we compare the performance between the existing storage policy and the proposed storage policies. Though the performance evaluation, we show that the method to store the aggregation of change sets and the versions at a point of proper time outperforms others.

  • Hydroacoustic technique was used to analyze spatiotemporal stability and distribution of demersal fish aggregations in the coastal region to overcome some limitations of the existing methods such as net and diving. The survey was carried out in the Baekeum Bay on the south coast of Korea in January 2007. The bottom depth in the study site ranges from 7 to 25 m. In order to outline aggregations of demersal fish initial scanning using 200 kHz split-beam transducer was randomly conducted over the large area. Having detected fish aggregation in the specific region, intensive acoustic survey of irregular star pattern was carried out along 14 transects across the area in question. The results of the acoustic survey show that all demersal fish aggregations are concentrated about 5 m from sea bottom having a slight slope and remain steady with no spatial or temporal variations during acoustic survey. The hydroacoustic method used in this study offers a new approach to understand vertical and horizontal distribution, spatiotemporal stability, and biomass estimate of demersal fish aggregations in coastal regions. Additionally, the number of individual fish estimated from in situ acoustic target strength data can be used to understand the standing stock of demersal fish aggregation.

  • Recent Engineered nanoparticles were increasingly exposed to environmental system with the wide application and production of nanomaterials, concerns are increasing about their environmental risk to soil and groundwater system. In order to assess the transport behavior of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs), a saturated packed column experiments were examined. Inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry and a DLS detector was used for concentration and size measurement of AgNPs. The column experiment results showed that solution chemistry had a considerable temporal deposition of AgNPs on the porous media of solid glass beads. In column experiment, comparable mobility improvement of AgNPs were observed by changing solution chemistry conditions from salts (in both NaCl and $CaCl_2$ solutions) to DI conditions, but in much lower ionic strength (IS) with $CaCl_2$. Additionally, the fitted parameters with two-site kinetic attachment model form the experimental breakthrough curves (BTCs) were associated that the retention rates of the AgNPs aggregates were enhanced with increasing IS under both NaCl and $CaCl_2$ solutions.

  • Hydroacoustic surveys were conducted for spatio-temporal distribution and size estimation of fish in the Yongdam reservoir, Korea, from April to July 2014. Acoustic data were collected along acoustic transects using a 120 kHz scientific echosounder. The received acoustic data were the in situ acoustic target strength (dB) and nautical area scattering coefficient ($m^2/mile^2$). Data on fish behavioral patterns and size were collected using a DIDSON acoustic camera at stationary stations. Fish were mainly distributed in the center channel and close to the outer Yongdam reservoir. Acoustic density of fish in the summer season were higher than in the spring season. The seasonal vertical distribution pattern of fish aggregations may be strongly related to the vertical temperature structure. The size distribution of fish obtained from an acoustic camera correlated well with the acoustic size of fish from an echosounder.

  • In this paper we investigate some issues and solutions related to the design of a Data Warehouse (DW), storing several aggregate measures about trajectories of moving objects. First we discuss the loading phase of our DW which has to deal with overwhelming streams of trajectory observations, possibly produced at different rates, and arriving in an unpredictable and unbounded way. Then, we focus on the measure presence, the most complex measure stored in our DW. Such a measure returns the number of distinct trajectories that lie in a spatial region during a given temporal interval. We devise a novel way to compute an approximate, but very accurate, presence aggregate function, which algebraically combines a bounded amount of measures stored in the base cells of the data cube. We conducted many experiments to show the effectiveness of our method to compute such an aggregate function. In addition, the feasibility of our innovative trajectory DW was validated with an implementation based on Oracle. We investigated the most challenging issues in realizing our trajectory DW using standard DW technologies: namely, the preprocessing and loading phase, and the aggregation functions to support OLAP operations.

  • In this article we address some system characteristics and challenging issues in developing Context-aware Middleware for Ubiquitous Computing. The functionalities of a Context-aware Middleware includes gathering context data from hardware/software sensors, reasoning and inferring high-level context data, and disseminating/delivering appropriate context data to interested applications/services. The Middleware should facilitate the query, aggregation, and discovery for the contexts, as well as facilities to specify their privacy policy. Following a formal context model using ontology would enable syntactic and semantic interoperability, and knowledge sharing between different domains. Moddleware should also provide different kinds of context classification mechanical as pluggable modules, including rules written in different types of logic (first order logic, description logic, temporal/spatial logic, fuzzy logic, etc.) as well as machine-learning mechanical (supervised and unsupervised classifiers). Different mechanisms have different power, expressiveness and decidability properties, and system developers can choose the appropriate mechanism that best meets the reasoning requirements of each context. And finally, to promote the context-trigger actions in application level, it is important to provide a uniform and platform-independent interface for applications to express their need for different context data without knowing how that data is acquired. The action could involve adapting to the new environment, notifying the user, communicating with another device to exchange information, or performing any other task.

  • This study, a point rainfall process model, which could represent appropriately observed rainfall data, was to select. The point process models-rectangular pulses Poisson process model(RPPM), Neyman-Scott rectangular pulses Poisson process model(NS-RPPM), and modified Neyman-Scott rectangular pulses Poisson process model(modified NS-RPPM)-all based on Poisson process were considered as possible rainfall models, whose statistical analyses were performed with their simulation rainfall data. As results, simulated rainfall data using the NS-RPPM and the modified NS-RPPM represent appropriately statistics of observed data for several aggregation levels. Also, simulated rainfall data using the modified NS-RPPM shows similar characteristics of rainfall occurrence to the observed rainfall data. Especially, the modified NS-RPPM reproduces high-intensity rainfall events that contribute largely to occurrence of natural harzard such as flood and landslides most similarly. Also, the modified NS-RPPM shows the best results with respect to the total rainfall amount, duration, and inter-event time. In conclusions, the modified NS-RPPM was found to be the most appropriate model for the long-term simulation of rainfall.

  • Calreticulin (CALR), a multifunctional protein thoroughly researched in mammals, comprises N-, P-, and C-domain and has roles in calcium homeostasis, chaperoning, clearance of apoptotic cells, cell adhesion, and also angiogenesis. In this study, the spatial and temporal expression patterns of the Opisthorchis viverrini CALR gene were analyzed, and calcium-binding and chaperoning properties of recombinant O. viverrini CALR (OvCALR) investigated. OvCALR mRNA was detected from the newly excysted juvenile to the mature parasite by RT-PCR while specific antibodies showed a wide distribution of the protein. OvCALR was localized in tegumental cell bodies, testes, ovary, eggs, Mehlis' gland, prostate gland, and vitelline cells of the mature parasite. Recombinant OvCALR showed an in vitro suppressive effect on the thermal aggregation of citrate synthase. The recombinant OvCALR C-domain showed a mobility shift in native gel electrophoresis in the presence of calcium. The results imply that OvCALR has comparable function to the mammalian homolog as a calcium-binding molecular chaperone. Inferred from the observed strong immunostaining of the reproductive tissues, OvCALR should be important for reproduction and might be an interesting target to disrupt parasite fecundity. Transacetylase activity of OvCALR as reported for calreticulin of Haemonchus contortus could not be observed.

  • The spatio-temporal distribution of jellyfish in Masan Bay was investigated in this study using a numerical model. First, a three-dimensional hydrodynamic model (POM) was constructed, taking into account residual flows, tides, temperature, salinity, and wind effects. A particle tracking model based on residual flow was then used to investigate the jellyfish present in Masan Port, referred to as the Heavy Industry and Gapo New Port in Masan. Jellyfish distribution was concentrated with maximum (2,533 individual) in the North Sea near Machang Bridge. Itcan be concluded that this concentration was due to multi-directional residual flows and topography effects. Residual flow currents are a dominant factor in understanding the aggregation of jellyfish, and this study used a numerical simulation of tide-induced residual currents, wind-driven currents and density currents in distinct cases to thoroughly address the topic. As a result, wind-driven currents (effect of the wind) was found to be superior to other components as an influence on the distribution of jellyfish near Machang Bridge and Modo in Masan Bay.
