Digestibility trial was performed with carps weighing 200 g/fish. Fecal collection was made over 7 days using a settling column. The water temperature was in the range of 27 to $30{^{\circ}C}$ during whole experimental period. Fishes were fed 5 diets (Control, $F_{24}S_{13}$, $F_{16}S_{27}$, $F_8S_{40}$ and $F_0S_{56}$) containing both 32%, 24%, 16%, 8% and 0% of fish meal (F) and 0%, 13%, 27%, 40% and 56% of roasted full-fat soybean (S), respectively. Water volume in each recirculated rearing tank was maintained at 130 l with flow rate of 10-12 l/min. Apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs) of dry matter, protein, lipid, total carbohydrates and energy in diets showed a reduction (p < 0.05) with the increase of dietary full-fat soybean level, although there was no difference in the ADCs between Control and $F_{24}S_{13}$ (p > 0.05). The ADCs of ash, Ca and P in diets significantly increased with the increase of dietary full-fat soybean level, suggesting the high availability of phosphorus in monocalcium phosphate.
A microcomputer based control system was constructed to save energy consumption in the thermal sterilizing process. The functional accuracy of system was evaluated through the analysis of the thermal diffusivities of the model solid food, Alaska pollack surimi. The heat penetration curves obtained through the experiments were typical for solid foods. The practical thermal diffusivity calculated from heat penetration curve was a constant value at steady sterilizing temperature, and this was independent of the holding time. At different temperatures, the thermal diffusivity values did not show remarkable differences when compared with those predicted by some experimental equations cited from the literatures. The maximal difference was within the range of $\pm10.0\%$.

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the effect of corn grain particle size on ruminant fermentation and blood metabolites in Holstein steers fed total mixed ration (TMR) as a basal diet to explain fundamental data of corn grain for cattle in Korea. Methods: Four ruminally cannulated Holstein steers (body weight $592{\pm}29.9kg$) fed TMR as a basal diet were housed individually in an auto temperature and humidity modulated chamber ($24^{\circ}C$ and 60% for 22 h/d). Treatments in a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design were TMR only (control), TMR with whole corn grain (WC), coarsely ground corn grain (CC), and finely ground corn grain (FC), respectively. The corn feeds substituted for 20% energy intake of TMR intake. To measure the ruminal pH, ammonia N, and volatile fatty acids (VFA), ruminal digesta was sampled through ruminal cannula at 1 h intervals after the morning feeding to determine ruminal fermentation characteristics. Blood was sampled via the jugular vein after the ruminal digesta sampling. Results: There was no difference in dry matter (DM) intake between different corn particle size because the DM intake was restricted to 1.66% of body weight. Different corn particle size did not change mean ammonia N and total VFA concentrations whereas lower (p<0.05) ruminal pH and a ratio of acetate to propionate, and higher (p<0.05) propionate concentration were noted when the steers consumed CC compared with WC and FC. Concentration of blood metabolites were not affected by different particle size of corn grain except for blood triglyceride concentration, which was significantly (p<0.05) increased by FC. Conclusion: Results indicate that feeding CC may increase feed digestion in the rumen, whereas the FC group seemed to obtain inadequate corn retention time for microbial degradation in the rumen.

Graft copolymerization of MMN4-VP onto cotton fiber using Ce(IV) salt as an initiator and triton X-100 as an emulsifier was performed under various polymerization conditions. In cograft polymerization, the polymeization behavior according to variation of 4-VP feed composition and the characteristics of MMA/4-VP graft polymer such as affinity for acid dye owing to cationization of cotton, antibacterial activity and thermal behavior were investigated. The results of this study were as follows : 1. While in copolymerization of MMA and 4-VP, 4-VP content in copolymer was more than that of monomer feed composition. 2. Increasing 4-VP content, graft yield was decreased, but graft efficiency was increased. In case of MMA/4-VP graft polymerization, the highest graft yield was obtained at higher CAN concentration than in MMA graft polymerization, the reason is that the behavior of 4-VP was disturbed by Ce(IV) sail 3. Elevation of temperature resulted in increase of graft yield and the apparent activation energy of MMA/4-VP graft polymerization was higher than that of MMA graft polymerization. 4. MMA/4-VP grafted cotton fiber showed affinity for acid dye, antibacterial activity and higher moisture regain than MMA grafted cotton fiber. MMA/4-VP grafted cotton fabric showed improvement of wrinkle recovery up to 40~50% graft yield and decreased thereafter. MMA/4-VP and MMA grafted cotton fabric did not showed significant difference in wrinkle recovery and stiffness.
Compression work on a pyrite powder has been carried out using energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDXRD) with Mao-Bell type diamond anvil cell (DAC) and synchrotron radiation(SR) at room temperature. It has been reported the bulk moduli of pyrite show the large variations depending on the experimental conditions as well as the apparatus used. Thus, two kinds of sample in different pressure transmitting media of both NaCl and MgO powder emerged in alcoholic fluids were subjected to measure their compressibilities. Bulk moduli thus obtained are 138.9 GPa and 198.2 GPa, respectively, and this result contradicts to the anticipated values according to the hydrostaticity conditions of the sample chamber. This might be due to the alcoholic fluids phase transition mainly with the side effects from the difference of both solid state detector (SSD) used and E*d value applied. All experiments were performed at the Beam Line 1B2 of Pohang Light Source (PLS).

Net radiation (Rn) is one of the most fundamental components in surface energy budget. For an accurate measurement of Rn, periodic and consistent calibrations of net radiometers are required. With a 4-month time interval, two field experiments were conducted to inter-compare and calibrate two types of net radiometers (the Q-7.1 and the CNR1), widely used in flux measurements. Differences between the Q-7.1 and the CNR1 net radiometers were within 7.7%, and the errors after calibration against the standard net radiometer were <3.2%. Radiometric responses and calibration factors appeared to have changed with sky renditions, especially temperature difference with season's progress. We concluded that the periodically calibrated Q-7.1 can replace more expensive, more accurate CNR1 net radiometer for long-term field measurements, providing that field calibrations of net radiometers are performed every 4-6 months interval.

According to standard procedures as defined in the users handbook for sea level data processes, I was compared to Topex/poseidon sea level data from the first 350days of mission and Tide Gauge sea level data from the Amsterdam- Crozet- Kerguelen region in the South Indian Ocean. The comparison improves significantly when many factors for the corrections were removed, then only the aliased oceanic tidal energy is removed by oceanic tide model in this period. Making the corrections and smoothing the sea level data over 60km along-track segments and the Tide Gauge sea level data for the time series results in the digital correlation and RMS difference between the two data of c=-0.12 and rms=11.4cm, c=0.55 and rms=5.38cm, and c=0.83 and rms=2.83cm for the Amsterdam, Crozet and Kerguelen plateau, respectively. It was also found that the Kerguelen plateau has a comparisons due to propagating signals(the baroclinic Rossby wave with velocity of -3.9~-4.2cm/sec, period of 167days and amplitude of 10cm) that introduce temporal lags($\tau$=10~30days) between the altimeter and tide gauge time series. The conclusion is that on timescales longer than about 10days the RMS sea level errors are less than or of the order of several centimeters and are mainly due to the effects of currents rather than the effects of sterics(water temperature, density) and winds.
It is crucial to predict the variabilities of the near-earth space environment associated with the solar activity, which cause enormous socio-economic impacts on mankind. The geomagnetic storm prediction scheme adopted in this study is designed to predict such variabilities in terms of the geomagnetic indices, AE and Dst, the cross-polar cap potential difference, the energy dissipation rate over the polar ionosphere and associated temperature increase in the thermosphere. The prediction code consists of two parts; prediction of the solar wind and interplanetary magnetic field based upon actual flare observations and estimation of various electrodynamic quantities mentioned above from the solar wind-magnetosphere coupling function 'epsilon' which is derivable through the predicted solar wind parameters. As a test run, the magnetic storm that occurred in early November, 1993, is simulated and the results are compared with the solar wind and the interplanetary magnetic field measured by the Japanese satellite, Geotail, and the geomagnetic indices obtained from ground magnetic observatories. Although numerous aspects of the code are to be further improved, the comparison between the simulated results and the actual measurements encourages us to use this prediction scheme as the first appoximation in forecasting the disturbances of the near-earth space environment associated with solar flares.

One of the most important hydrologic components is evapotranspiration. It is a process by which water is evaporated from moist land surfaces and transpired into atmosphere by plants. There are many methods of estimating evapotranspiration rate and its potential such as the methods of soil-moisture sampling, lysimeter measurements, water balance, energy balance, groundwater fluctuations and evapotranspiration. But it is very difficult to estimate evapotranspiration in terms of regional discrete characteristics of topography and/or vegetation. The evapotranspiration is strongly affected by ground covering vegetation, and the degree of vegetation growth. In order to grasp vegetation condition over a vast study area, NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Indices) calculated from the data obtained from NOAA/AVHRR were utilized. Through multi-regression analysis, we developed a model equation to estimate the evapotranspiration using NDVIs and temperature data.
Supercritical water oxidation of DMMP using continuous flow reactor was studied at temperature ranging from 440 to $540^{\circ}C$ and a fixed pressure of 242 bar. The range of residence times in the reactor was from 10 to 26 s, and oxygen excess value varied from -40 to 200%. Destruction efficiencies (DE) of DMMP were greater than 99.7% at $540^{\circ}C$, and increased as the DMMP concentrations were increased. DE of DMMP were significantly affected by oxygen concentration under stoichiometric amount, but showed little difference over stoichiometric amount. On the basis of 30 data with conversions greater than 85%, kinetic correlations for the DE of DMMP were developed. The pre-exponential factor was $(1.10{\pm}0.76){\times}10^6$, and the activation energy was $90.66{\pm}3.87kJ/mol$, and the reaction orders for DMMP and oxygen were $1.02{\pm}0.03$, $0.32{\pm}0.03$, respectively. The model predictions agreed well with the experimental data.
