This study investigated the relation between seasonal variation of total clothing weight, room, outdoor temperature and basal metabolic rate in man. The basal metabolic rate and total clothing weight, room temperature was determined seasonal for a period of two years and grouped four seasons. Subjects (adults volunteers) who live in seoul and mokpo were compose 120 subject The results were obtained as follows. Seasonal outdoor temperature was difference of seoul and. mokpo. But room temperature in apartments was a little difference than private house. Total-clothing weight is showed seasonal variations at the seoul, private house than at the mokpo, apartment.. The basal metabolic rate is suggested there in gender difference in the basal metabolic rate (P〈.001). The basal metabolic rate increased gradually with the peak of winter sespectively and deceased again todward summer. The difference of between basal metabolic rate in summer and winter was significant room temperature, of seoul and private house, and light total clothing weight.
Differential response of genotypes to temporal environmental heterogeneity may contribute to the long-term persistence of these genotypes within a population. In this experiment, we experimentally tested whether groups by season interactions for germination and seedling growth can explain genetic variability within the population. To determine whether seeds collected during the four seasons respond differentially to temperature treatments, two-way ANOVA was performed. This study indicates that seasonal environments have large effects on demography. Groups within populations respond differentially to seasonal environments by influencing population growth that may in turn influence community composition. Most importantly, the study showed that temporal heterogeneity in the environment might functions as a mechanism that maintains within-population genetic diversity.
This study was conducted to assess performances of the developed environmental control systems under various seasons of Korea. In all trials for the environmental control systems, the manure pit ventilation system in the windowless pig-housing with partly slatted floor was used. Consequently, under all seasons of Korea, the complex environmental control systems could comfortably maintain the indoor temperature (14.8~27.2$^{\circ}C$) , concentrations of noxious gases (CO2 gas : 631~1,874ppm, NH3 gas : 0.3~3.2ppm), air velocity (0.11~0.23m/s), air movement, and so on. Therefore, the performances of the complex environmental control systems were evaluated as proper as the intended.
Benthic macroinvertebrate communities and environments at the upper and lower sites of levees in the middle reaches of paenae stream, a tributary of the naktong river, were investigated in four seasons from August 1989 to may 1990. Current velocities were significantly fast at the loer sites than the upper sites of levees. Substratum compositions were also different between these two sites. Abundances of major species of benthic macroinvertebrates occurring in four seasons were primarily dtermined by temperature. in each location of levees, however, current velocities and substratum particle sizrs were important in determining species were generally higher than upper sites of levees. Biological indices were also high at the lower sites of levees. diversity, evenness and dominance indices were positively correlated with the quantity of the middle-sized large pebbles(3∼5cm in diameter) in stream bed.
Characteristics of photosynthesis-light and photosynthesis-temperature relationships were seasonally compared among 4 species, two temperate Sargassurn (S. ringgoldianum and S. spathulophyllum) and two temperate kelp (Ecklonia cava and Eisenia bicyclis), growing in the same habitat in Oura Bay, Shimoda, central Japan. The photosynthesis-irradiance (P-I) curve of each species at the in situ temperature and the photosynthesis-temperature (P-T) curve at near saturation irradiance (400μmol·m^(-2)·s^(-1)) were determined by using differential gas-volumeters. Maximum photosynthetic rates (Prnax) for P-I curves of the two Sargassurn species were higher from summer to autumn than from winter to spring, while those of the two kelp species showed little difference among seasons. Net photosynthetic rates (Pn) at 100-400μmol·m^(-2)·s^(-1) of the Sargassurn species were higher than those of the kelp species in autumn, spring and summer, while in winter the rates were about the same between the Sargassurn and kelp species. Among seasons, the light saturation index (1k) values, dark respiration rates and light compensation points of Sargassurn species differed more than those of kelp species. Optimum temperature for P-T curves of Sargassurn species was 29℃ and that of kelp species was 27℃ in summer, while in winter the former was 27℃ and the latter was 25℃. Pn at 400 μmol·m^(-2)·s^(-1) at 10-33℃ of Sargassurn species were considerably higher than those of kelp species from spring to summer, while from autumn to winter the rates at 5-27℃ were about the same between the two. At supra-optimum temperatures, Pn of kelp species decreased more sharply than those of Sargassurn species in each season. These facts indicate that the two temperate Sargassurn species have a higher potential photosynthetic performance under warmer conditions than the two temperate kelp species even though they grow in the same habitat.
The seasonal climatology of atmospheric rivers (ARs) and their effects on the seasonal precipitation and temperature in Korea are examined using the AR chronology obtained by a methodology based on the vertically integrated water vapor transport (IVT) in conjunction with a fine-scale gridded analysis of station precipitation and temperature. ARs are found to affect Korea most heavily in the warm season with minimal impacts in winter. This contrasts the AR effects in the western North America and the Western Europe that are affected most in winters. Significant portions of precipitation in Korea are associated with AR landfalls for all seasons; over 35% (25%) of the summer (winter) rainfall in the southern part of the Korean peninsula. The percentage of AR precipitation over Korea decreases rapidly towards the north. AR landfalls are also associated with heavier-than-normal precipitation events for all seasons. AR landfalls are associated with above-normal temperatures in Korea; the warm anomalies increase towards the north. The warm anomalies during AR landfalls are primarily related to the reduction in cold episodes as the AR landfalls in Korea are accompanied by anomalous southerlies/southwesterlies.
The microalgae have been studied for a source of biodiesel production. It is important to select the microalgae, which grows rapidly in local environmental conditions such as temperature range and ingredient of local seawater. The aim of this study was isolating microalga, which has rapid growth rate and high FAME contents in wide temperature ranges, for microalgal offshore cultivation in Korea, one of the country with four distinct seasons. Firstly, we had isolated a green microalga, Tetraselmis sp. KCTC12236BP, which has faster growth rate in low temperature (5 and $10^{\circ}C$) than Tetraselmis suecica and Dunaliella tertiolecta LB999 from Young Heung Island, Incheon, Korea. This microalga was cultivated in outdoor circulated tank photobioreactor (CT-PBR). As a result, this microalga could grow in wide temperature ranges (6 to $29^{\circ}C$), outdoors. After that, the biomass was recovered, and 13.2 g biodiesel could be acquired from 110 g dry biomass. These results indicate that the isolated microalga, Tetraselmis sp. KCTC12236BP is proper to biodiesel production using outdoor cultivation in Korea for all seasons.
In this study, the regional climate model, RegCM4.0 (25 km), with the HadGEM2-AO data as boundary conditions, was used to simulate the mean climate changes in the mid and late 21st century for CORDEX Phase 2 East Asian region. 122 years (1979~2100) of simulation were performed, and RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 were used for the simulation of future climate. In the mid-21st century, the temperature is expected to increase by about 0.5 to $3.0^{\circ}C$ in all regions of East Asia, regardless of season and scenario. The increase in temperature is greater in summer and winter, especially in the northern part of simulation domain. Interannual variability (IAV) is expected to decrease by 25% in summer for RCP 8.5, while it is expected to increase by more than 30% in autumn for both scenarios. Regardless of the scenario, the precipitation in South Korea is expected to increase in late June but decrease in mid-July, with an increase in precipitation greater than $100mm\;day^{-1}$. In RCP 4.5 of the late 21st century, relatively uniform temperature increase ($1.0{\sim}2.5^{\circ}C$) is expected throughout the continent, while RCP 8.5 shows a very diverse increase ($3.0{\sim}6.0^{\circ}C$) depending on season and geographical location. In addition, the IAV of temperature is expected to decrease by more than 35% in both scenarios in the summer. In most of the Northwest Pacific region, precipitation is expected to decrease in all seasons except for the summer, but in South Korea, it is projected to increase by about 10% in all seasons except autumn.

For successful microalgal biodiesel production, the strain should be selected carefully. Fast growth rate and high fatty acid contents are desired traits for algal biodiesel production. In ocean cultivation of microalgae, seawater temperature slowly changes over seasons, and rotating algal strains in accordance with their optimal temperature could improve overall productivity. Additionally, use of indigenous strain is preferred to alleviate potential impacts on the environment. In this study, five strains of Tetraselmis sp. from nearshore of Youngheung Island, Incheon, Korea, were isolated during winter and characterized for their growth patterns and fatty acid compositions in the low temperatures ($5-15^{\circ}C$). The five strains showed various characteristics in optimal growth temperature, fatty acid contents, and compositions. Compared with a strain of Tetraselmis sp., isolated from Ganghwa island in a previous study, a rapid-growing strain with 237% higher biomass productivity and an oleaginous strain with twice higher fatty acid contents at $10^{\circ}C$ were isolated. The oleaginous Tetraselmis strain showed the highest fatty acid productivity among the strains, having 438% higher productivity than the previous strain. Using the new isolates in the seasons with low seawater temperature would improve microalgal fatty acid productivity in ocean cultivation.

In general, Top Of Atmosphere(TOA) brightness temperature is closely related to air temperature. Brightness temperature can be derived from the Thermal Infra-Red Sensors (TIRS) of the earth observation satellites such as the Landsat series. The TIRS instrument of the Landsat-8 satellite collects the two spectral bands (Bands 10 and 11) that measure brightness temperature. In this research, the relationship between the air temperature data measured by the weather stations in Seoul, South Korea and the brightness temperature data separately derived from Bands 10 and 11 of the Landsat-8 satellite were assessed in the different seasons through the correlation analysis. The statistical results led to the following conclusions. First, brightness temperature is closely related to air temperature in order of Spring, Autumn, Winter and Summer. Second, when air temperature increases, brightness temperature also increases in Spring, Autumn and Winter but decreases in Summer. Third, Band 10 has a closer relationship to air temperature than Band 11.
