A Study on the Measurement Method of Test Waveform for System-level HEMP Immunity Test (체계 수준 HEMP 내성 시험을 위한 시험파형 계측 기법 연구)

  • High-altitude ElectroMagnetic Pulse(HEMP) is a high-power electromagnetic pulse caused by nuclear explosions at altitudes above 30 km. This pulse can cause serious damage to the electrical/electronic device. Therefore, there are a lot of studies on the effects of HEMP in the literature. When conducting studies on the effects of HEMP, it is essential to measure the simulated HEMP. Depending on the need for measurement, this paper focuses on the HEMP measurement method. This paper proposes a measurement method using frequency domain compensation to extract the correct waveform and solves the offset problem more efficiently than the conventional methods. The proposed method is verified by experiment using HEMP simulator and measurement system in ADD.

  • In precision instrumentation system, an A/D conversion of signal conditioning has some problems.; offset and drift errors with environmental situation. This paper suggested a development of the Multi-Channel A/D Data Acquisition System and a method of the evaluation and the temperature compensation for the A/D converters with the specific analog and digital circuit including the software. Also, we have designed a hardware and a software filters with smart algorithm for better signal processing of the proposed system. Software approach was adopted to obtain the stable data from A/D converter. As shown in our experimental works, the proposed system is expected to be used in the industrial field where a high precision measurement is required.

  • This paper presents development of a practical tool deflection compensation system in order to reduce the machining error from the tool deflection compensation system in order to reduce the machining error from the tool deflection in the end-milling process. The devised system is a tool adapter which includes 1-axes force sensor for detecting tool deflection and 2-axes tool tilting device for adjusting tool position through computer interface on line process. Experimental in investigations for typical shaped workpieces representing various end milling situations are performed to verify the ability of the system to suppress the surface errors due to tool deflections. With the system, it is possible to get precise machining surface without any excessive machining error due to increased cutting force in more productive machining conditions.

Pseudolite/Ultra-low-cost IMU Integrated Robust Indoor Navigation System Through Real-time Cycle Slip Detection and Compensation

  • In recent years, research has been actively conducted on the navigation in an indoor environment where Global Navigation Satellite System signals are unavailable. Among them, a study performed indoor navigation by integrating pseudolite carrier and Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) sensor. However, in this case, there was no solution for the cycle slip occurring in the carrier. In another study, cycle slip detection and compensation were performed by integrating Global Positioning System (GPS) and IMU in an outdoor environment. However, in an indoor environment, cycle slip occurs more easily and frequently, and thus the occurrence of half cycle slip also increases. Accordingly, cycle slip detection based on 1 cycle unit has limitations. Therefore, in the present study, the aforementioned problems were resolved by performing indoor navigation through the integration of pseudolite and ultra-low-cost IMU embedded in a smartphone and by performing half cycle slip detection and compensation based on this. In addition, it was verified through the actual implementation of real-time navigation.

  • Since the opening of Korean high-speed rail, KTX in 2004, the use of trains in Korea soared. Improved rail technology, as well as the speed of the train was developed. However, the development of the train speed raised new issues of Doppler effect and this effect compensation. Depending on the speed of communication target, Doppler effect generates frequency shifting and this effect leads to a distortion of the signal. For this reason, the Doppler effect adversely affect the communication performance. Therefore, the Doppler effect problem must be solved for the railway wireless communication. In this paper, we present technique of compensation for the Doppler effect that occurs in high-speed railway communication and simulation result.

Design and Control of a Wearable Robot for Stair-Climbing Assistance (계단 보행 근력 보조를 위한 착용형 로봇의 설계 및 제어)

  • This paper describes the development of a thigh wearable robot for power assistance during stair climbing. In the wearable robot developed in this study, high-power BLDC motors and high-capacity harmonic reduction gears are used to effectively assist the thigh muscle during stair climbing. In particular, normal ground and stair are distinguished accurately by using wireless smart shoes, and the stair climbing assistance is performed by activating the actuators at an appropriate time. Impedance of the hip joint was effectively reduced by performing friction compensation of the gears, and a wearing adjustment mechanism was designed to fit the robot to the thigh by conveniently modifying the width and tilting angle of the robot using set collars. Consequently, the performance of the developed thigh wearable robot was verified through stair climbing experiments with EMG measurement.

An Advanced Prediction Technology of Assembly Tolerance for Vehicle Door (차량도어 조립공차 예측기술 개발)

  • The setting of values on door hinge mounting compensation for door assembly tolerance is a constant quality issue in vehicle production. Generally, heuristic methods are used in satisfying appropriate door gap and level difference, flushness to improve quality. However, these methods are influenced by the engineer's skills and working environment and result an increasement of development costs. In order to solve these problems, the system which suggests hinge mounting compensation value using CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) analysis is proposed in this study. A structural analysis model was constructed to predict the door gap and level difference, flushness through CAE based on CAD (Computer Aided Design) data. The deformations of 6-degrees of freedom which can occur in real vehicle doors was considered using a stiffness model which utilize an analysis model. The analysis model was verified using 3D scanning of real vehicle door hinge deformation. Then, system model which applying the structural analysis model suggested the final adjustment amount of the hinge mounting to obtain the target door gap and the level difference by inputting the measured value. The proposed system was validated using the simulation and showed a reliability in vehicle hinge mounting compensation process. This study suggests the possibility of using the CAE analysis for setting values of hinge mounting compensation in actual vehicle production.

A Study on the Financial System for Developing Mineral Resources and Protecting the Marine Environment in the Area (심해저 광물자원 개발과 해양환경보호를 위한 재정제도에 관한 연구)

  • For the commercial development of deep-sea mineral resources, the International Seabed Authority is engaged in wide ranging discussions to establish the Regulations on Exploitation. The core issue of the Regulations on Exploitation is how to protect the marine environment along with the royalty system that distributes the profits from such development. The United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea stipulates the protection of the marine environment in Part 12 (Articles 192-237) for the preservation of the marine environment, and in the 1994 Implementation Agreement, the protection of the marine environment at the stage of application for approval of the plan of work together with the Regulations on Exploration for the protection of the marine environment. For this purpose, certain obligations are imposed on the applicants. In the Regulations on Exploitation, financial systems such as environmental performance guarantee, insurance, and environmental compensation funds, which were not found in the Regulations on Exploration, are added to further specify the measures for marine environment protection generally stipulated in the 1982 Law of the Convention or 1994 Implementation Agreement. Regarding the financial system for marine environment protection, the Marine Environmental Protection and Conservation Informal Working Group meeting is revising the purpose of the environmental compensation fund. Among these financial system elements, it is judged that there is a possibility that the environmental performance guarantee and insurance may overlap considerably, and it is also thought that the establishment of the environmental compensation fund can also provide a substantial sum of money that will meet the purpose of the compensation fund in terms of securing its financial resources. In this paper, the question is posed as to whether or not this can be accomplished. In this respect, this paper examines the environmental performance guarantee, insurance, and environmental compensation fund, which are necessary for the protection of the marine environment of the deep seabed, but which can impose appropriate obligations on contractors for the commercial development of deep seabed mineral resources. At the same time as figuring out how it is operated in relation to relevant domestic laws, I would like to propose a plan to reflect the implications derived from the domestic law operation process in the Regulations on Exploitation.

Study on Multi-Mode Monopulse Signal Processing System Providing Optimal Time Delay under High Doppler Condition (고속 도플러 편이 환경에서 최적 시간지연을 갖는 다중모드 모노펄스 신호처리에 관한 연구)

  • Multi-mode monopulse system is widely used for satellite terminal like UAV because of high tracking accuracy and low size/weight profile. In order to calculate tracking error, Multi-mode monopulse system utilizes high-order mode signal, and it should have enough C/N(carrier to noise) level therefore tracking system needs narrow band filtering of received satellite beacon signal as much as possible. However, UAV suffers for beacon frequency drift derived from Doppler effect due to satellite figure 8 movement and UAV maneuvering. Therefore wideband signal processing needs to be considered in advance for exact doppler compensation and consequent time delay. In this paper, we propose the multi-stage Digital Signal processing system for beacon signal, which could minimize the signal delay under high Doppler and low C/N condition.

  • This paper presents a thermally adaptive driving (TAD) technology for response time compensation of LCD with integrated sensor. The TAD is comprised of analog sensor signal conditioning and a digital feedback algorithm. Utilizing with a digital feedback system, TAD reduces response time of nearly 50% over the temperature range $0^{\circ}C-60^{\circ}C$.
