감각치환 기술 동향 (Technological Trends in Sensory Substitution)

  • Sensory substitution involves mapping the characteristics of one sensory modality to the stimuli of another sensory modality. In general, when a person is visually impaired or deaf, they do not actually lose their ability to see or hear completely; however, they only lose their ability to transmit sensory signals from the periphery to the brain. It has been experimentally proven that a person who has lost the ability to retrieve data from the retina can still visualize subjective images by using data transferred from other sensory modalities such as tactile or auditory modalities. This is because vision processing pathways are still intact in most cases. Therefore, sensory substitution uses human perception and the plasticity of the human brain to transmit sensory signals through pathways that have not been lost. In this study, we analyze the characteristics and problems of various devices used for sensory substitution and summarize the recent technological trends in these devices.

  • GaN (Gallium-Nitride) is a promising candidate material in various radio frequency applications due to its inherent properties including wide bandgap, high carrier concentration, and high electron mobility/saturation velocity. Notably, AlGaN/GaN heterostructure field effect transistor exhibits high operating voltage and high power-density/power at high frequency. In next-generation radar systems, GaN power transistors and monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) are significant components of transmitting and receiving modules. In this paper, we introduce technological trends for C-/X-/Ku-band GaN MMICs including power amplifiers, low noise amplifiers and switch MMICs, focusing on the status of GaN MMIC fabrication technology and GaN foundry service. Additionally, we review the research for the localization of C-/X-/Ku-band GaN MMICs using in-house GaN transistor and MMIC fabrication technology. We also discuss the results of C-/X-/Ku-band GaN MMICs developed at Defense Materials and Components Convergence Research Department in ETRI.

Technological Convergence of IT and BT: Evidence from Patent Analysis

  • In recent innovation trends, one notable feature is the merging and overlapping of technologies: in other words, technological convergence. A key technological convergence is the fusion of biotechnology (BT) and information technology (IT). Major IT advances have led to innovative devices that allow us to advance BT. However, the lack of data on IT-BT convergence is a major impediment: relatively little research has analyzed the inter-disciplinary relationship of different industries. We propose a systematic approach to analyzing the technological convergence of BT and IT. Patent analysis, including citation and co-classification analyses, was adopted as a main method to measure the convergence intensity and coverage, and two portfolio matrices were developed to manage the technological convergence. The contribution of this paper is that it provides practical evidences for IT-BT convergence, based on quantitative data and systematic processes. This has managerial implications for each sector of IT and BT.

  • In recent years, technological competition in the automobile sector is accelerating. This study analyzes the status of patents from a global perspective of three promising future items that Korea has selected as core technologies in the field of autonomous driving,. And the technological cooperation ecosystem was identified through network analysis centered on scientific metrology. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the growth of individual technologies has been strengthened in recent years, and although key source technologies have been largely preempted in major global countries, a close cooperative ecosystem between institutions, companies, and universities in major countries has not yet been formed. Specifically, the US and Japan have the technological leadership, while China is rapidly rising, and Korea is chasing after it as a latecomer. Therefore, it is necessary to continuously strengthen technological cooperation such as R&D of core technology to overcome technological limitations and strengthening of infrastructure construction, attracting excellent foreign talents and international exchanges. This analysis is meaningful in that it explores the global status of Korea's technology and the possibility of technological cooperation from various perspectives in the future from the viewpoint of preoccupation of future technology, rather than grasping the trend of a specific technology.

  • 본 고는 유럽 연합의 종합기술개발 프로그램인 ACTS의 개요, 기술 개발 분야, 과제의 공모 제도, National Host 운용, 기술영역(Technological Domain Chain)과 체인(Chain)의 분류 등 기술 개발을 위하여 취하고 있는 수행 체계 및 추진 방식, 그리고 현재 수행되고 있는 세부 기술 개발 대상 영역별 과제들을 개관하였다. 이는 최근, 보다 효율적인 정보통신 기술 개발 추진을 위해 다양한 변화와 전략을 모색하고 있는 국내 각 분야의 의사 결정에도 많은 시사점을 제공할 것이다.

문화기술(CT) 연구 동향 분석: 국가연구과제를 중심으로 (Analyzing the Trends of Culture Technology using National Research Projects)

  • 디지털기술융합사회에서 문화기술의 중요도가 커지고 있지만, 이에 비해 문화기술의 동향을 정확하게 파악하고 분석하고자 하는 시도가 부족한 실정이다. 특히 문화기술의 경우 국가 차원에서 주도하여 발전해 왔으며, 이에 문화기술을 분석함에 있어 국가적 관점을 견지하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 따라서 본 연구는 국가연구과제를 바탕으로 문화기술 동향을 분석하고 향후 문화기술 발전에 대한 시사점을 제공하는 데 초점을 맞추었다. 본 연구는 국가과학기술정보서비스(NTIS)에서 문화기술 연구과제 데이터를 수집하여 연구내용에 대한 키워드 네트워크를 분석하고, 군집분석을 통해 문화기술 과제를 유형화하고 그 특성을 분석하였다. 분석 결과 문화기술은 정보지식에서 디지털콘텐츠, 문화미디어로 발전하고 최근 머신러닝 기술에 접목하여 활발하게 활용되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 최근에는 코로나19의 사회적 환경의 변화로 비대면 온라인 콘텐츠에 대한 수요로 AR, VR 등 다양한 문화산업에 대한 연구로 발전하고 있는 것을 확인하였다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 문화기술을 이해하고 그 동향을 분석하여, 문화기술의 혁신 가능성을 확인하기 위한 중요한 단서를 제공하였다.
