공학교육에서 문제 및 프로젝트기반학습의 비교 고찰과 적용 방안 (A Comparative Review on Problem-& Project-based Learning and Applied Method for Engineering Education)

  • Despite its ineffectiveness, the dominant pedagogy for engineering education is still "chalk & talk". Meanwhile, student-centered learning models have been highlighted for strong communication, teamwork skills, deep understanding and analysis on social, environmental and economic issues as well as application of their engineering knowledge in practice. Among others, on problem- and project-based learning, this article examines theoretical background and detailed features and a comparison between both learning models including common and different features from the previous theoretical and empirical studies. It reviews some cases of where they have been practiced successfully in engineering, and further, applied strategies for engineering education are suggested.

6-sigma 방법론을 적용한 종합설계 교육모델 개발 (Development of Capstone Design Education Model Using 6-sigma Methodology)

  • Capstone design education is essential in the engineering design process according to the certification standards of ABEEK. Capstone design process should be properly trained in undergraduate courses in order to increase the design ability of systems, components and processes within realistic constraints. In this study, a modified design model as a capstone design education model was proposed to reduce the separation between the design process at industrial sites and the design process at university education. The modified design model based on 6-sigma methodology is composed of 6 design steps such as define, measure, analyse, design, verify, and report. Each step has appropriated design contents and tools, and is configured to generate design results. The proposed design model was directly applied to the capstone design class for automotive engineering in Kunsan National University, and it was confirmed that the proposed DMADVR methodology was a very useful design education model to enhance the design ability, teamwork ability and communication skills required by ABEEK.

  • Universities that offer architectural engineering programs in Korea are making efforts to introduce innovation teaching methods to cultivate teamwork, creativity, flexibility of thought and practical skills needed for the Fourth Industrial Revolution. However, there is a lack of specific measures to support them. In this regard, this study investigated a method of application development for building construction courses applied with the innovation teaching methods. It mainly focused on 'improvement directions for existing learning management systems' and 'online learning support plans using the innovation teaching method' as research contents. It is expected that these improvement directions can be applied to the field of education through the development of mobile and web-based applications. In the follow-up research, the development of specific software for field application will be carried out.

Creating an e-Benchmarking Model for Authentic Learning: Reflections on the Challenges of an International Virtual Project

  • International virtual teamwork offers new opportunities for the professional development of teachers. In this paper, we examine the initial experiences in an ongoing international virtual benchmarking project coordinated by the Finnish Online University of Applied Sciences. What challenges does an international context present for project construction and collaboration? Data from five countries, in the form of participant reflections and researchers' observations, were analysed according to four types of barriers: language, time, technical and mental barriers. Initial data indicates that trust is an essential starting point, as there is neither time nor possibilities to build mutual trust by traditional means. Organisational confidentiality issues, however, can complicate the situation. The project introduces 'collision' as a method of professional development, in which physical and organisational borders are crossed and the skills and competencies needed in global learning environments are acquired.

  • The purpose of this paper is to verify the education effects of program for engineering students and extract the essential components to be included in the learning contents. For this, we investigated the lecture contents critically and analyzed the evaluation result of questionnaire to examine the students' learning satisfaction and learners' needs concerning the effectiveness of course. The survey using two types of questionnaires was conducted with 210 junior and senior students taking lectures of ${\ll}$Presentation and Debate Skills${\gg}$ in the college of engineering at Pusan National University. According to the evaluation result, students experienced various speech education's effects concerning (1) verbal components, (2) non-verbal components, (3) problem solving competence, (4) teamwork skills, etc. On the other side there have been pointed out as problems in the ${\ll}$Presentation and Debate Skills${\gg}$ class, such as (1) a large number of assignments, (2) insufficiency of more refined evaluation method for the individuals and (3) a well-balanced arrangement between 'theory' and 'practice' was needed. However more importantly, the individual students can not do practice sufficiently owing to the large scale of class. Therefore the various and effective ways to help students improve their communicative competence have to be developed further. Finally, there have been extracted several essential components to be included in the class and implications for ameliorating the class were discussed and suggested in detail.

  • 최근 10년간 정부에서는 서비스산업에 대한 많은 정책들을 발표 및 추진하고 있으며 서비스산업의 중요한 역할은 일자리 창출이며 안정적인 고용창출능력을 가졌을 뿐만 아니라 고용파급효과도 매우 크다. 2015년 6월 통계청의 발표를 보면 청년실업률(15~29세)은 10.2%를 나타냈다. 이는 6월 기준으로 1999년 6월 11.3%를 기록한 이후 16년 만에 가장 높은 수준이다. 서비스산업은 이처럼 악화되는 경제상황을 타개할 수 있는 하나의 대안으로 인식된다. 이에 서비스산업 유형별로 한국형 GWP변수를 적용하여 경영했을 때 어떤 성과의 차이가 있을까? GWP변수들은 서비스산업별로 어떤 변수가 더 중요하게 인식될까? GWP변수들은 구성원의 팀워크 활동에 어떤 영향을 미치고 직무몰입에는 어떤 영향을 미칠까? 그리고 그간 사례연구로만 검증하였던 경영성과에 대한 영향관계도 실증적으로 검증해보고자 했다.

의과대학생을 위한 환자안전 교육의 국제적 동향 및 국내 현황 (Patient Safety Education for Medical Students: Global Trends and Korea's Status)

  • This study is a narrative review introducing global trends in patient safety education within medical schools and exploring the status of Korean education. Core competences for patient safety include patient centeredness, teamwork, evidence- and information-based practice, quality improvement, addressing medical errors, managing human factors and system complexity, and patient safety knowledge and responsibility. According to a Korean report addressing the role of doctors, patient safety was described as a subcategory of clinical care. Doctors' roles in patient safety included taking precautions, educating patients about the side effects of drugs, and implementing rapid treatment and appropriate follow-up when patient safety is compromised. The Korean Association of Medical Colleges suggested patient safety competence as one of eight essential human and society-centered learning outcomes. They included appropriate attitude and knowledge, human factors, a systematic approach, teamwork skills, engaging with patients and carers, and dealing with common errors. Four Korean medical schools reported integration of a patient safety course in their preclinical curriculum. Studies have shown that students experience difficulty in reporting medical errors because of hierarchical culture. It seems that patient safety is considered in a narrow sense and its education is limited in Korea. Patient safety is not a topic for dealing with only adverse events, but a science to prevent and detect early system failure. Patient safety emphasizes patient perspectives, so it has a different paradigm of medical ethics and professionalism, which have doctor-centered perspectives. Medical educators in Korea should understand patient safety concepts to implement patient safety curriculum. Further research should be done on communication in hierarchical culture and patient safety education during clerkship.

Problems of Teaching Pupils of Non-Specialized Classes to Program and Ways to Overcome Them: Local Study

  • The development and spread of IT-technologies has raised interest in teaching programming pupils. The article deals with problems related to programming and ways to overcome them. The importance of programming skills is emphasized, as this process promotes the formation of algorithmic thinking of pupils. The authors determined the level of pupils' interest to programing learning depending on the age. The analysis has showed that the natural interest of younger pupils in programming is decreasing over the years and in the most productive period of its study is minimized. It is revealed that senior school pupils are characterized by low level of interest in the study of programming; lack of motivation; the presence of psychological blocks on their own abilities in the context of programming; law level of computer science understanding. To overcome these problems, we conducted the second stage of the experiment, which was based on a change in the approach to programing learning, which involved pupils of non-specialized classes of senior school (experimental group). During the study of programming, special attention was paid to the motivational and psychological component, as well as the use of game technologies and teamwork of pupils. The results of the pedagogical experiment on studying the effectiveness of teaching programming for pupils of nonspecialized classes are presented. Improvement of the results provided the use of social and cognitive motives; application of verbal and non-verbal, external and internal means; communicative attacks; stimulation and psychological setting; game techniques, independent work and reflection, teamwork. The positive effect of the implemented methods is shown by the results verified by the methods of mathematical statistics in the experimental and control groups of pupils.

시뮬레이션 융합 프로그램 개발을 위한 정신건강간호 교육요구도 조사 (Assessing educational needs in the development of a simulation-based convergence training program on mental health nursing)

  • 본 연구는 간호대학생들의 정신건강간호에 대한 교육요구도를 알아보고, 특별히 시뮬레이션으로 융합 교육이 필요한 영역에 대한 우선순위를 확인하고자 진행되었다. 140명의 간호대학생들에게 설문을 통한 조사가 2020년 3월~5월 사이에 이루어 졌다. 정신건강간호학에 대한 교육요구도와 조현병 환자간호에 대한 교육요구도는 각각 19문항과 15문항의 자가응답설문을 통해 이루어졌다. 추가적으로 3개의 서술형 질문을 통해 이전 시뮬레이션 경험에 대한 조사가 이루어 졌다. 조현병환자 간호에 대해 높은 교육요구도가 확인되었으며, 의사소통능력에 대한 교육요구도가 정신건강간호학과 조현병 환자간호 모두에서 가장 높게 나타났다. 표준화환자, 팀워크, 교수자로부터 피드백이 정신건강 간호학 시뮬레이션 교육의 긍정적 경험을 이끌어낸 것으로 확인되었다. 본 연구결과, 의사소통기술 향상을 위한 간호교육이 가장 우선시 할 필요가 있다. 잘 설계되고 실제와 같은 임상경험을 제공할 수 있는 시뮬레이션을 통한 융합교육이 최상의 학습성과를 만들어낼 것이다.

치위생학과 학생의 임상치위생학 교과목 문제중심학습 경험에 관한 현상학적 연구 (Phenomenological study on the problem-based learning experience of clinical dental hygiene among students in dental hygiene)

  • Objectives: This study aimed to provide useful basic data for improving the quality of problem-based learning (PBL) to improve integrated thinking and problem-solving skills in clinical dental hygiene through in-depth exploration of the experiences of dental hygiene students trained in PBL modules. Methods: A total of nine participants were selected based on the grade distribution of clinical dental hygiene. Three participants each were from the upper, middle, and lower groups. A focus group interview (FGI) was conducted using a developed questionnaire. All contents of the recorded FGI were used to draw the main results while maintaining the core contents Results: The themes derived through the FGI were confirmed by 'advantages of PBL', 'competencies developed through PBL', 'teamwork experienced in PBL', 'required competencies for PBL team activities', 'differences in contribution among team members', 'satisfaction with PBL', 'improvements to PBL', and 'trial and error experienced in PBL'. Conclusions: The PBL was a useful for improving the integrated thinking and problem-solving skills of dental hygiene students. Moreover, this study provides useful basic data for the qualitative improvement of the PBL.
