  • The aim of the National Assessment of Educational Achievement (NAEA) is to produce specific and reliable resources required for the diagnosis and quality control of teaching and learning by measuring the level of students achievement based on the national curriculum. In 2002, we introduced ‘modified Angoff Method’ to obtain more systematic and rational results about the achievement levels. The result indicated the differences of achievement level according to the differences of sexes. Female students achieved higher scores than male students in Grade 6. Male students achieved higher scores than female students in Grade 9 and 10. Furthermore it disclosed a problematic phenomenon that students in small towns and rural areas showed significantly lower scores in all six sub-areas of Mathematics compared with students in metropolitan and cities. The results from the NAEA listed above could be used as the authentic data for improving national curriculum and teaching and learning methods, the establishment of educational policies, and many other areas.

Portfolio applied science instruction of the 6th grade science unit 'Environment pollution and Nature protection' was developed for this study. Traditional instruction was implemented to the control group and portfolio applied science instruction was implemented to the experimental group. Pretests of the scientific affective domain were administered to both groups. The treatment was given for about seven weeks for both groups. Instruments about scientific affective domain were administered to both groups. A questionnaire on perception of portfolio applied science instruction was given to the experimental group after the treatment. The results were analyzed using t-test on the students' scientific affective domain. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Portfolio applied science instruction program for elementary schools was developed. Students themselves determine the portfolio learning goal in a portfolio applied science instruction. Students construct the portfolio and they evaluate themselves and other colleagues. Also teachers go on portfolio applied science instruction considering portfolio purpose, concepts, evaluation. 2. There was not a statistically meaningful difference between an experimental group and a control group o]1 the students' scientific affective domain. In three sub categories of a scientific affective domain, the science perception, the interest on science and scientific attitude, there were not statistically meaningful difference among them. 3. As the results of the questionnaire on perceptions of portfolio, they didn't understand it very well but after learning portfolio, they showed positive attitude to perceptions of portfolio. Students in portfolio applied science instruction like more the portfolio applied science instruction than general instruction. 4. Portfolio applied science instruction has an useful value as a method of teaching and evaluation. Students and teachers can produce various portfolios products in portfolio applied science instruction. As a conclusion, portfolio applied science instruction was not statistically meaningful on the students' scientific affective domain, but it gives positive effects on perceptions of portfolio in elementary schools. Therefore, portfolio has an educational value as a method of teaching and evaluation for students' growth. In the future, teachers and students must have interaction and feedback in portfolio applied science instruction.

  • In this study, we attempted to examine the changing ways of thinking about lecture evaluation before and after COVID-19. To this end, decision tree analysis(Decision Tree) was used among data mining techniques based on lecture evaluation data for liberal arts and major classes conducted before and after COVID-19 for A university. According to the results of the study, liberal arts changed from 'method' to 'content', and 'knowledge improvement' was an important factor both before and after majors. In particular, 'Assignment' was found to be an important factor after the COVID-19 in common in the evaluation of lectures in the liberal arts department, which means that in the future, professors will be provided with appropriate teaching methods during class, interaction with students, and feedback on assignments or test results, indicates the need for competence. Based on the results of this study, a plan to improve communication with students and activation of blended learning was suggested.

  • In this paper, we propose a recommendation system for supporting self-directed programming language education. The system is a recommendation system using collaborative filtering based on learners' level and stage. In this study, we design a recommendation system which uses collaborative filtering based on learners' profile of their level and correlation profile between learning topics in order to increase self-directed learning effects when students plan their learning process in e-learning environment. This system provides a way for solving a difficult problem, that is providing programming problems based on problem solving ability, in the programming language education system. As a result, it will contribute to improve the quality of education by providing appropriate programming problems in learner"s level and e-learning environment based on teaching and learning method to encourage self-directed learning.
