In implementing a robust automatic target recognition(ATR) system with synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imagery, one of the most important issues is accurate classification of target variants, which are the same targets with different serial numbers, configurations and versions, etc. In this paper, a deep learning network with channel attention modules is proposed to cope with the recognition problem for target variants based on the previous research findings that the channel attention mechanism selectively emphasizes the useful features for target recognition. Different from other existing attention methods, this paper employs the channel attention modules without dimensionality reduction along the channel direction from which direct correspondence between feature map channels can be preserved and the features valuable for recognizing SAR target variants can be effectively derived. Experiments with the public benchmark dataset demonstrate that the proposed scheme is superior to the network with other existing channel attention modules.
The optimization of a transmission type bremsstrahlung conversion target was carried out with Monte Carlo code FLUKA for intense pulsed electron beams with electron energy of several hundred keV for maximum photon fluence. The photon emission intensity from electrons with energy ranging from 300 keV to 1 MeV on tungsten, tantalum and molybdenum targets was calculated with varied target thicknesses. The research revealed that higher target material element number and electron energy leads to increased photon fluence. For a certain target material, the target thickness with maximum photon emission fluence exhibits a linear relationship with the electron energy. With certain electron energy and target material, the thickness of the target plays a dominant role in increasing the transmission photon intensity, with small target thickness the photon flux is largely restricted by low energy loss of electrons for photon generation while thick targets may impose extra absorption for the generated photons. The spatial distribution of bremsstrahlung photon density was analyzed and the optimal target thicknesses for maximum bremsstrahlung photon fluence were derived versus electron energy on three target materials for a quick determination of optimal target design.

This paper introduces a signal processing technique for discrimination of missile target. In order to detect and discriminate the target, a seeker radar makes use of chirp waveform and stretch processing to generate high resolution range profiles(HRRPs). RELAX(relaxation) algorithm, which is one of the spectral estimation techniques, was used to find scattering centers of a missile from HRRP. From the information on the distribution of one-dimensional(1-D) scattering centers on a target, we can discriminate the target without noise.

In this paper, we propose target range estimation method using ghost target in the submarine linear array sonar. Usually, when submarine detect target, they use passive sonar detection to avoid self-disclosure by active sonar transmission. But, originally, passive linear array sonar have limitation for target range estimation and additional processing is required to get target range information. For the case of near-field target, typical range estimation method is using multiple information by multipath effect in underwater environment. Acoustic signal generated from target are propagated along with numerous multipath in underwater environment. Since multipath target signals received in the linear array sonar have different conic angles each other, ghost target is appeared at the bearing different with real target bearing and sonar operator can find these information on the operation console. Under several assumption, this geometric properties can be analysed mathematically and we get the target range by derivation of this geometric equations using measured conic angles of real target and ghost target.

Uncertainty is ubiquitous in target tracking wireless sensor networks due to environmental noise, randomness of target mobility and other factors. Sensing results are always unreliable. This paper considers unreliability as it occurs in wireless sensor networks and its impact on target-tracking accuracy. Firstly, we map intersection pairwise sensors' uncertain boundaries, which divides the monitor area into faces. Each face has a unique signature vector. For each target localization, a sampling vector is built after multiple grouping samplings determine whether the RSS (Received Signal Strength) for a pairwise nodes' is ordinal or flipped. A Fault-Tolerant Target-Tracking (FTTT) strategy is proposed, which transforms the tracking problem into a vector matching process that increases the tracking flexibility and accuracy while reducing the influence of in-the-filed factors. In addition, a heuristic matching algorithm is introduced to reduce the computational complexity. The fault tolerance of FTTT is also discussed. An extension of FTTT is then proposed by quantifying the pairwise uncertainty to further enhance robustness. Results show FTTT is more flexible, more robust and more accurate than parallel approaches.

In this paper, Water Entry Point Selection Algorithm(WEPSA) for selecting an optimal Water Entry Point of anti-submarine missiles which maximizes Detection Probability about a given target was investigated. WEPSA is a method which decides the position of an optimal Water Entry Point with calculating the target Detection Probability of a torpedo in the whole domain which centered by the target, performing the Monte-Carlo Simulations which include errors for the target informations and for weapon delivery. We can decide an optimal Water Entry Point of anti-submarine missiles which maximizes Detection Probability about a given target with WEPSA, if we get target informations about target range, target bearing, target speed and target course from Combat Systems.

In this paper, the TSE (Triangulation based target Size Estimator) algorithm is presented to estimate static target size at IIR (Imaging Infrared) environment. The size information is important factor for accurate IIR target tracking. But the IIR sensor can't generate distance between missile and target to calculate target size. In order to overcome the problem, we propose TSE algorithm which based on triangulation measurement. The performance of proposed method is tested at target intercept scenario. The experiment results show that the proposed algorithm has suitable performance for the accurate static target size estimating.

In this paper, we propose a robust method which can detect and track a high-speed small approaching target in a cluttered environment for Korean Active Protection System. The proposed method uses a temporal and spatial filter, tracking filter to detect and track a single target in consecutive order. And it is comprised of a candidate target detection step, a prior target selection step and a target tracking. Field tests on real infrared image sequences show that the proposed method could stably track a high speed and small target in complex background and target occlusion.

Target Detection in synthetic aperture radar(SAR) image is critical for military and national defense. In this paper, we propose YOLOv4-Attention architecture which adds attention modules to YOLOv4 backbone architecture to complement the feature extraction ability for SAR target detection with high accuracy. For training and testing our framework, we present new SAR embedding datasets based on MSTAR SAR public datasets which are about poor environments for target detection such as various clutter, crowded objects, various object size, close to buildings, and weakness of signal-to-clutter ratio. Experiments show that our Attention YOLOv4 architecture outperforms original YOLOv4 architecture in SAR image target detection tasks in poor environments for target detection.
Multi-target X-ray tube is a new type X-ray source, and can be applied in many fields such as sensitive X-ray fluorescence analysis and medical imaging. In this work, we report an electric field modulation multi-target X-ray tube, which contains four targets (Cr, Ni, Au, Mo) coated on a Beryllium (Be) window. A four-valve electric field deflector was developed to deflect the electron beam to bombard the corresponding targets. Particle dynamics analysis software was employed to simulate the particle tracking of electron beam. The results show that the 30 keV electron beam could get a 6.7 mm displacement on the target plane by 105 V/m electric field. The focus areas are about 2 mm × 5 mm and 4 mm × 2.5 mm after deflection in two directions. Thermal behavior calculated by ANSYS shows that the designed target assembly could withstand a 10 W continuous power. The optimum target thicknesses and emission spectra were obtained by Geant4 when the thickness of Be window was 300 mm and the electron beam incident angle was 0.141 rad. The results indicate that this multi-target X-ray tube could provide different X-ray sources effectively.
