Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of extended-field radiation therapy for patients with thoracic superficial esophageal cancer (SEC). Materials and Methods: From May 2007 to October 2016, a total of 24 patients with thoracic SEC (T1a and T1b) who underwent definitive radiotherapy and were analyzed retrospectively. The median total radiotherapy dose was 64 Gy (range, 54 to 66 Gy) in conventional fractionation. All 24 patients received radiotherapy to whole thoracic esophagus and 23 patients received elective nodal irradiation. The supraclavicular lymph nodes, the celiac lymph nodes, and both of those nodal areas were included in 11, 3, and 9 patients, respectively. Results: The median follow-up duration was 28.7 months (range 7.9 to 108.0 months). The 3-year overall survival, local control, and progression-free survival rates were 95.2%, 89.7%, and 78.7%, respectively. There were 5 patients (20.8%) with progression of disease, 2 local failures (8.3%) and 3 (12.5%) regional failures. Three patients also experienced distant metastasis and had died of disease progression. There were no treatment-related toxicities of grade 3 or higher. Conclusion: Definitive extended-field radiotherapy for thoracic SEC showed durable disease control rates in medically inoperable and endoscopically unfit patients. Even extended-field radiotherapy with elective nodal irradiation was safe without grade 3 or 4 toxicities.

The papermaking process for a reconstituted tobacco sheet (RECON) has been preferred more because of the various merits such as a wide range of Recon products with better quality. The screw press is one of the very important process in RECON making process which divides the mixed raw materials into the soluble material and the insoluble material and could greatly affect the productivity and product quality. In this study, the characteristics of the screw press process in a Recon making mill were evaluated for two different RECON products. Three different efficiency index were proposed for the more detailed analysis of the screw press process. The result showed that the difference in the raw material might result in the difference in the efficiency and the properties of the extracts and the filter cake, especially in the HWS. The washing technique which applied in this experiment showed the amount of residual HWS in the fiber portion were not much changed by the each steps of the screw press.

Weaver-Dunn's operation for acromioclavicular injury yields satisfactory results in most cases. Although clavicular prominence can recur, it is not frequently symtomatic, but it can cause serious impairment of shoulder function in young and active patients. The authors performed reconstruction of coracoclavicular ligament with an autogenous hamstring tendon graft in a 31 years old electrician with recurrence of clavicular prominence accompanied by pain and limitation of overhead activity. The hamstring tendon and two coracoclavicular sutures looped under the coracoid process were passed through holes in the clavicle and around the clavicle in overreduced position. Even though clavicular prominence recurred somewhat, the modified UCLA score by Rockwood improved to 17 from 11/20 at 2 years after operation and the patient had no restriction in working as an electrician. Symptomatic patient with recurrent clavicular prominence after Weaver-Dunn's operation can benefit from reconstruction of coracoclavicular ligament with a hamstring tendon.

The effects of Reynolds number of model propeller leading edge roughness and air content resolved in tunnel water on cavitation inception, cavitation extent and pressure fluctuation were investigated experimentally by using two model propellers in a cavitation tunnel. Cavitation observation and propeller induced fluctuating pressure measured in the present model test were compared with the model test results of other research institutes and the full-scale data of a German container ship(Sydney Express). The comparison shows a reasonable agreement.

Effects of red ginseng acidic polysaccharides (RGAP) on immune system were studied. The proliferation of spleen cells was induced by RGAP treatment per se. Cotreatment of lipopolysaccharide $(100\;{\mu}g/ml)$ or concanavalin A $(1\;{\mu}g/ml)$ with RGAP further stimulated the spleen cell proliferation. BALB/c mice treated with RGAP showed a slight splenic hyperplasia and increased antibody forming cell response to sheep red blood cells. Flow cytometry analysis revealed an influx of macrophages in the mice treated with RGAP.

Peroxiredoxins (Prxs) possess protective activity against oxygen radicals generated by thiol-catalyzed oxidative systems. We already reported the genomic structure and its expression of mouse Prx Ⅰ, Ⅱ, and 1-Cys Prx. However, the Prx Ⅲ has not been determined. That was initially defined transiently expressed gene, mouse MER5, of murine erythroleukaemia cell differentiation. In addition, this protein was recently redefined a member of the thiol-specific antioxidant gene family. (omitted)

Peroxiredoxin (Prx) has been known to play an important role in the protection against oxidative damage of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Recent reports implied that the ROS may be closely related with the reproductive system. To define the possible roles of Prx family in reproduction, the expression profiles were investigated in reproductive organs of four murine strains. (omitted)
