Correlation Analysis on the Runoff Pollutants from a Small Plot Unit in an Agricultural Area

  • This study was carried out to investigate the important factors relating to runoff and pollutant loads in a plot unit located in an agricultural area. Of the precipitation parameters, such as total precipitation, days since last rainfall (ADD, the rainfall was more than 10mm) and average rainfall intensity on runoff, the strongest effect was obtained due to total precipitation, but the rainfall intensity showed a slightly positive correlation. It was expected that both variables, i.e. total precipitation and rainfall intensity, would lead to the generation of greater runoff. In contrast, runoff was negatively correlated with ADD, which is understandable because more infiltration and less runoff would be expected after a long dry period. The TSS load varied greatly, between 75.6 and $5.18{\times}10^4g$, per event. With the exception of TN, the TSS, BOD, COD and TP loads were affected by runoff. The correlations of these items were proportional to the runoff volume, with correlation coefficients (r) greater than 0.70, which are suitable for use as NPS model data. The TSS load showed very good relationships with organics (BOD & COD) and nutrients (TN & TP), with correlation coefficients greater than 0.79. Therefore, the removal of TSS is a promising factor for protecting water basins.

고성능 전류감지기를 이용한 Specification 기반의 아날로그 회로 테스트 (Specification-based Analog Circuits Test using High Performance Current Sensors)

  • 테스트 기술자들에게 아날로그 회로(또는 혼합신호 회로)의 테스트와 진단은 여전히 어려운 문제여서 이를 해결할 수 있는 효과적인 테스트 방법이 크게 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 time slot specification(TSS) 기반의 내장 전류감지기(Built-in Current Sensor)를 이용한 새로운 아날로그 회로의 테스트 기법을 제안한다. 또한 TSS에 기반 하여 고장 위치를 찾아내고 고장의 종류를 구별해 내는 방법을 제시한다. TSS 기법과 함께 제안하는 내장 전류감지기는 높은 고장 용이도와 높은 고장 검출을 그리고 아날로그 회로내 강고장과 약고장에 대한 높은 진단율을 갖는다. 제안하는 방법에서는 주출력과 전원단자등을 테스트 포인트로 사용하고 전류감지기를 자동 테스트 장치(Automatic Test Equipment)에 구성하므로써 테스트 포인트 선택과정의 복잡도를 줄일 수 있다. 내장 전류 감지기의 디지털 출력은 아날로그 IC 테스트를 위한 내장 디지털 테스트 모듈과 쉽게 연결된다.

순환여과식 양어장의 포말분리 (Foam Separation in Recirculating Aquaculture System)

  • 포말분리관에서 양어장 순환수를 일정하게 공급하여 분리 실험을 수행하며 체류 시간, 공탑 공기 유속, 포말층 높이 등의 영향에 따른 포말 분리관의 각 성분의 분리 특성을 연구한 결과 체류 시간 및 공탑 공기 유속이 증가할수록 TSS, TA및 $NO_2^-$ 성분의 제거율도 비례적으로 증가하였다. 그리고 포말층의 높이가 증가할수록 TA의 제거율은 월등히 증가한 반면에 $NO_2^-$, TSS의 제거율은 일정하게 유지되었다. 포말분리기의 공탑 공기 유속 및 포말층 높이가 증가할수록 순환수내의 용존산소도 증가하여 포말분리기는 양어장 순환수의 산소 공급 장치로도 활용되었다. 포말분리법은 어류 성장에 유해한 TSS, TA, $NO_2^-$를 단기간에 제거할 수 있고 어류 성장에 필요한 산소를 공급할 수 있는 매우 효과적인 방법으로 판단되었다.

중소기업의 기술능력 제고를 위한 기술하부구조정책: 미국의 MEP와 한국의 중진공을 중심으로 한 사례 비교

  • This study analyzes the development of technological infrastructure(TI) and technological infrastructure policy(TIP) to enhance the technological capabilities of small and mid-sized manufacturing enterprises(SMEs) in the U.S. and Korea in terms of the technological system(TS) concept, which is composed of technological infrastructure, industrial organization, and institutional infrastructure. In order to analyze the internal dynamics of the system, such as incentive mechanisms, the interaction among economic actors, and the policy implementation process, we compare the MEP(Manufacturing Extension Partnership) system of the U.S. and the Joong-Jin-Gong system of Korea. Among many similarities, contrasts, and insights from each country's effort to construct TI and TS, the main findings are as follows. (1) Both the MEP system and the Joong-Jin-Cong system are TI-led or government-led type TS. However, the nation-wide picture is different: in the U.S., most TSs including the MEP system., are classified as TI-led type; in Korea, many TI-assisted or private sector-led TSs have been developed since the early 1960s. (2) the MEP system, as a representative case of the U.S., is less stable than the Joong-Jin-Gong system of Korea in terms of financing and political cycle. (3) The MEP system is a more complex and cooperative network than the Joong-Jin-Gong system. NIST, as a critical mass, generates the system, bridges various institutions, and influences the development of the system by providing funding. (4) Regarding TI components, TSs in both countries focus on utilizing off-the-shelf technologies rather than advanced technologies. However, the direction of movement is different: in the U.S., TSs have come to emphasize existing technologies to counterbalance an innovation system that has been highly focused toward new technologies; in Korea, TSs have been moving from focusing on a higher diffusion rate of imported process technologies to stressing new technology development. (5) Personnel and staffing, embodying technological capability, is an important concern in both countries. But the human capital infrastructure of the U.S. system is more efficient and industry-oriented than that of the Korean system due to a more flexible labor market. (6) While the U.S. has a strong tradition of state and local autonomy in constructing TI and TS to fit SMEs's specific need, Korea has a centralized and bureaucratically-led policy implementation process.

도시지역 비점오염원 관리를 위한 와류필터형 처리시설의 효율성 연구 (Effectiveness of Continuous Deflective Separation System to Control Nonpoint Source Pollution from Urban Areas)

  • The control of nonpoint source pollution from the urban paved areas with high imperviousness in is required to improve the water quality of aquatic resources. This research investigated the characteristics of urban runoffs and evaluate the effectiveness of the continuous deflective separation systems for stormwater best management practice. The systems were installed in the vicinity of a high-level road, an apartment complex, and the Cheonggye stream. Stormwater runoff was sampled in these sites. Biochemical oxygen demand ($BOD_5$), total suspended solid (TSS), total nitrogen (T-N), and total phosphorus (T-P) were analyzed. The removal efficiency of $BOD_5$, TSS, and T-P for the road was 10.9-81.0%, 11.7-93.4%, 0-37.5%, respectively. That of $BOD_5$, TSS, T-N, and T-P for the complex was 12.5-65.8%, 26.5-77.6%, 1.8-28.7%, and 20.0-37.5%, respectively. The abatement efficiency $BOD_5$, TSS, T-N, and T-P for the stream was 7.2-85.2%, 41.7-98.2%, 11.3-65.6%, and 2.0-71.5%, respectively. This study shows that the systems can be used to remove $BOD_5$ and TSS from urban runoffs efficiently.

여과형 시설에 적용되는 여재의 처리효율 영향인자를 고려한 실증화 평가 (Verification of the Filter Media Applied to Filter Type Facility Considering the Treatment Efficiency Factor)

  • Increased impervious surface caused by rapid urbanization serves to produce the discharge of non-point source pollutants such as total suspended solid (TSS). There exist various methods of removing TSS, including a filtration process using granular media (a well-known method to be practically used after the consideration of removal efficiency, clogging, and backwashing efficiency). To determine the TSS removal capability of the filter, we initially performed lab-scale experiments which assessed flow rates, influent concentrations, permeability co-efficients, the particular shapes of suspended solids and potential clogging, and also evaluated TSS removal efficiency when applied to filtration facility in a pilot-scale. In low filtration flux condition, the removal efficiency of suspended solids was more than 95 %, while decreased to 83% in high filtration flux. Regarding the clogging aspect of the experiment, total cumulative solids were loaded up to $19.15kg/m^2$, and TSS removal efficiency was noted to commence to decrease when the loaded solids exceeded $9.0kg/m^2$. It was also noted, however, that superior efficiency was maintained for six hours. In addition, for pilot-scale experiment, the removal efficiency was still high enough (83.4 %) for the solid concentration of 140 ~ 343 mg SS/L and after backwashing, head loss was recovered to 92 ~ 95 % during two hour filtration. With these results, It was confirmed that lifetime of the filter applied to the test was prolonged due to the high treatment efficiency and good backwashing efficiency for the cumulative solids load.

컴퓨터 사용자의 눈 문제 조사를 위한 소프트웨어의 유용성 (The Prevalence of Computer Software for Investigations of Eye Problems among Computer Users)

  • 컴퓨터 화면은 인간과 컴퓨터 사이의 장벽이다. 본 연구는 컴퓨터 소프트웨어를 이용하여 50명의 컴퓨터 사용 학생들의 눈 문제에 대한 주된 원인을 이해하고 컴퓨터 스크린을 보고 있는 상태에서 환자의 시생활을 정확하게 평가할 수 있도록 하기 위해 시행하였다. 소프트웨어 TSS Optometric Toolkit for computer users(UK)는 눈 관리 전문가가 검사 대상자들의 컴퓨터 사용 환경과 유사한 상황에서 시활동을 평가하는 중요한 기법이다. 프로그램은 근거리 시력, 텍스트 디스플레이, 스프레드시트 디스플레이, 주시 시차, 이색검사, 숫자 찾기, 란돌트 링 찾기 등의 7가지 검사로 이루어졌다. 조사 대상의 55%는 눈 문제와 관련이 없었다. 25%는 컴퓨터 화면, 작업환경, 부적당한 작업실무의 문제를 호소하였는데 이러한 문제는 안경사나 안과의사가 해결해 줄 수 없는 분야이다. 그리고 나머지 20%는 안경처방이나 컴퓨터 사용을 위한 안경처방으로 해결할 수 있다. 본 연구에 의하면 컴퓨터 프로그램 TSS Optometric Toolkit for computer users가 컴퓨터와 관련된 눈의 문제를 평가하는데 매우 유용한 것으로 사료된다.

평택항 접근수역의 해상교통시스템 개선에 관한 실증적 연구 (An Empirical Study on the Improvement of Marine Traffic System at the Pyeong-taek Adjacent Areas)

  • 본 연구는 평택항 도선구 주변해역의 해상교통 시스템 개선방안을 찾고자 하는 연구로서, 평택항의 도선사와 기항 선박 선장들의 전문가적 시각에서 평택항 도선구 주변의 교통환경을 분석하였다. 또한 장안서 도선사 승하선 구간과 입파 도선사 승하선 구간의 위해요소를 실증적인 관점에서 분석하여 다음과 같은 해상교통시스템 개선 방안을 제안하였다. 먼저 목덕도 분리수도와 안도수역에 분리수도 설정을 제안하였고, 장안서 분리수도의 폭을 조정하여 혼잡도를 개선함은 물론 분리수도 외측경계선에 등부표를 설치하여 어구가 침범하지 못하도록 제안하였다. 또한 장안서 입파도 구간 해역에 교통안전 특정해역을 설정하도록 제안하고, 입파도 정박지 및 장안서 정박지 확충을 제시함으로서, 이러한 교통시스템 개선을 통하여 평택항 도선구 주변 통항선박의 안전운항 증진방안을 기대할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Multi-objective optimization of stormwater pipe networks and on-line stormwater treatment devices in an ultra-urban setting

  • In a highly urbanized area, land availability is limited for the installation of space consuming stormwater systems for best management practices (BMPs), leading to the consideration of underground stormwater treatment devices connected to the stormwater pipe system. The configuration of a stormwater pipe network determines the hydrological and pollutant transport characteristics of the stormwater discharged through the pipe network, and thus should be an important design consideration for effective management of stormwater quantity and quality. This article presents a multi-objective optimization approach for designing a stormwater pipe network with on-line stormwater treatment devices to achieve an optimal trade-off between the total installation cost and the annual removal efficiency of total suspended solids (TSS). The Non-dominated Sorted Genetic Algorithm-II (NSGA-II) was adapted to solve the multi-objective optimization problem. The study site used to demonstrate the developed approach was a commercial area that has an existing pipe network with eight outfalls into an adjacent stream in Yongin City, South Korea. The stormwater management model (SWMM) was calibrated based on the data obtained from a subcatchment within the study area and was further used to simulate the flow rates and TSS discharge rates through a given pipe network for the entire study area. In the simulation, an underground stormwater treatment device was assumed to be installed at each outfall and sized proportional to the average flow rate at the outfall. The total installation cost for the pipes and underground devices was estimated based on empirical formulas using the flow rates and TSS discharge rates simulated by the SWMM. In the demonstration example, the installation cost could be reduced by up to 9% while the annual TSS removal efficiency could be increased by 4% compared to the original pipe network configuration. The annual TSS removal efficiency was relatively insensitive to the total installation cost in the Pareto-optimal solutions of the pipe network design. The results suggested that the installation cost of the pipes and stormwater treatment devices can be substantially reduced without significantly compromising the pollutant removal efficiency when the pipe network is optimally designed.

ROADMOD를 이용한 도로청소 및 모래여과시설에 의한 고속도로에서의 강우시 TSS 저감효과 분석 (Removal Efficiency of TSS Loadings from Expressway by Road Sweeping and Sand Filter Facility Using ROADMOD)

  • In this study, the removal efficiency of road sweeping and sand filter facility for removing total suspended solid (TSS) as nonpoint source pollution from expressway was evaluated for the last 10 years (2012~2021) using ROADMOD. ROADMOD is a screening level model and was calibrated for runoff rate and TSS loading both at the inlet, which is the loading from the drainage area, and the outlet, from the sand filter facility. The drainage area is 715 m2 and the dimensions of sand filter facility are 1.5 m (wide) × 3.8 m (length) × 1.5 m (depth). The monitoring period for model calibration was the rainfall event during Aug. 31~Sep. 1, 2021 and the amount of rainfall was 74.5 mm. As a result of calibration, the determination coefficients (R2) of the flow rate were 0.66 and 0.86, for the inlet and outlet, respectively, and those of TSS loading were 0.50 and 0.84, for the inlet and outlet, respectively. Considering that ROADMOD is a screening level model, the calibration results were reasonable to evaluate the best management practices (BMPs) on the expressway. Using ROADMOD simulation results for 2012~2021, the average yearly runoff rate from the expressway was 82% and removal efficiency was 9% for road sweeping, 35% for sand filter facility, and 39% for both road sweeping and sand filter facility.
