Recently the use demand for national parks has been rapidly increased due to the change of leisure patterns in Korea. The intensive use of national parks, however, can cause serious management problems both in resource conservation and in visitor satisfaction. In order to prepare the effective management plan for the sustainable use of national parks, it is essential to evaluate the visitor satisfaction. The purpose of this study is to provide important information for the management strategies for Namsan and Tohamsan national parks in Kyongju. Importance-performance analysis (IPA) was adopted to analyze the visitor expectation and satisfaction. The questionnaire survey was performed to the 420 visitors of the three sites (Namsan Sam-reung, Namsam Yong-jang, and Tohamsan) that are the most popular areas in Kyongju national park. The IPA for the 18 satisfaction items shows that all the values for importance are higher than those for performance in the three sites. This results indicates that visitors' satisfactions for the 18 items are lower than their expectations. The IP matrix reveals that the management effort should be concentrated on the educational opportunities for nature and culture in Yong-jang, on the convenient access to park in Sam-reung. and on the availability of cool drinking water in Tohamsan. Based on the results, several suggestions for the management strategies were summarized for the three sites in conclusion.

The granites in the Gyeongju area are represented by the Namsan granites and the Tohamsan granodiorites. In this study I examined the geomorphological and geological characteristics of the granite landforms in the Gyeongju area. Joint, tor and corestones are most identifiable geomorphological and geological structure in the study areas. Tor in the Namsan granites is well developed and mainly composed of cubic corestones. Petrographical features of the stones used for the stone-built cultural properties are compared with those of the granites cropped out nearby. Additionally radiogenic element contents (K, Th, U) were acquired for comparison by gamma-ray spectrometer analysis. Most stones from the stone-built cultural properties in the Bulguksa Temple are very similar to the Namsan granites in terms of petrography, radiogenic elements. On the contrary almost all stones from the Seokguram Grotto share common petrographical, physical and chemical characteristics with the Tohamsan granodiorites. Therefore it can be suggested that the stones in the Bulguksa Temple were supplied from Namsan, and that the stones in the Seokgurarn Grotto were collected at nearby Tohamsan.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic information and investigate a vegetation structure around Tohamsan (Mt.) Wetland. Actual vegetation map was made on the basis of watershed around that. Vegetation structure survey was carried out for 8 representative communities of actual vegetation which were Pinus densifrora community, Quercus variabilis community, Cornus controversa community, Q. serrata community, Q. mongolica-Q. serrata community, Salix koreensis community, Q. mongolica community, Q. variabilis-Q. mongolica-Q. serrata community. Tohamsan (Mt.) Wetland is located on 490m above sea level and the area of watershed was $236,272m^2$. Vegetation type were divided into 16 types, and the ratio of Q. mongolica community was 33.1% ($78,209.2m^2$). In order to turn out the structure of 8 representative communties, 32 plots were set up and unit area of plot was $100m^2$. The estimated age of forest is 30~50-years-old, and in the resutls of soil analysis, acidity was pH 4.89 and organic matter was 4.46%.

The purpose of this study was to present the fundamental data for conservation and management of wetland ecosystem by surveying and analysing the vascular plants distributed in major wetlands, Gyeongju National Park. The study sites were Tohamsan wetland, Amgok wetland and Namsan wetland. The numbers of vascular plants were summarized as 200 taxa including 70 families, 145 genera, 171 species, 2 subspecies, 23 varieties and 4 forms. The threatened species designated by Ministry of Environment was Utricularia yakusimensis, and the rare plants were 7 taxa including Utricularia yakusimensis, Drosera rotundifolia, Mosla japonica, Utricularia bifida, Pogonia japonica, Utricularia racemosa and Iris ensata var. spontanea. The Korean endemic plants were Lespedeza maritima and Weigela subsessilis. The specific plants by floristic region were 12 taxa including 3 taxa of grade V, 1 taxa of grade IV, 1 taxa of grade III, 2 taxa of grade II and 5 taxa of grade I. The plants with approval for delivering oversea were 9 taxa including Glycine soja, Saussurea pulchella, Habenaria linearifolia and so forth. The naturalized platns were 5 taxa including Rumex obtusifolius, Ambrosia artemisiifolia, Bidens frondosa, Erigeron annuus and Erigeron strigosus, the invasive alien plant was Ambrosia artemisiifolia.
Community and distribution of Coleoptera were investigated in 4 different regional areas (Danseoksan, Tohamsan, Namsanm and Daebon) of Kyeougju National Park from June 17, 1997 to Oct. 30, 1997 by sweeping net method. 565 individuals belonging to 139 species, 115 genera in 30 families were collected. Species diversity was much higher in the areas of Tohamsan and Danseoksan (0.716 and 0.762, respectively) than the other areas because of the good plantation for the leaf beetles. In the family Chrysomelidae, Tohamsan area revealed very high Simpson diversity index, a 0.916. On the other way, Simpson diversity index was 0 in Daebon area which had very simple plantation with beach side and pine trees. Chrysomelidae was the most abundant; 270 individuals belonging to 45 species of 34 genera. Among them, Mordellina brunneotincta Marseul was the highest frequency. And then, the species of Coccinellidae, Alleculidae, Cerambycidae, Attelabidae and Curculionidae were mostly abundant in all regional area. Stigmatium pilosellum Gorham, Mordellina brunneotincta Marseul and Rhaphirtropis guttifer Sharp were newly recorded in Korea.

A steadily consolidated conglomerate formation (CCF) is developed thickly around Tabjeong-ri and Janghang-ri to the east of Tohamsan, Gyeongju City. The CCF has been regarded to a basal conglomerate, Cheonbug Conglomerate, of the Yonil Group by Tateiwa (1924). Son et al. (2000) correlated the CCF to the Songjeon Formation, which occupies the southwestern block of Tertiary Waup Basin. However, the Songjeon Formation stratigraphically does not face to the extension of the CCF. OSL (Optically Stimulated Luminescence) data on the reddish brown to bluish gray psammitic layers, which are intercalated in the CCF, yielded to 85∼92 ka. Therefore, the age of CCF constrains to the last interglacial stage (MIS 5c-5e) rather than the Early Miocene Cheonbug Conglomerate. The Late Pleistocene Tohamsan Formation (TF) is newly named to the CCF and is subdivided to megabreccias and boulders. A rectangular basin, in which the TF is accumulated, is bounded by Oedong and Yonil faults (segments of Yonil Tectonic Line) and is given a name of Toham Basin. Neotectonically, Pliocene EW-transpression gave an effect of the top-up-to-the-west reverse faulting and the accompanied normal fault movement during the last interglacial age (ca. 100 ka). The basin is graben type, in which basin fills are composed of collapsed colluvial deposits, TF.

In this study, the stone used for three storied pagoda of Bulguksa Temple, which is easy to access due to works for dismantle and restore will be analyzed on the basis of petrographic study, magnetic susceptibility, and ${\gamma}$-ray spectrometer, and identify petrographic characteristics. Also we will select candidate areas of fresh rock to change the stone used for three storied stone pagoda as from its provenance is presumed. According to the results of visual inspection, the stones used for the three storied stone pagoda are similar to the features of Namsan granite, which is distributed around Gyeongju-si, and when it comes to the section of the stupa finial, the features of all the parts from the stupa finial is similar to Namsan granite except for the section of Jeweled cover. On the other hand, the color, the composition, and the mineral size of the stones in the section from the part of jeweled cover are similar to Tohamsan granite. As a result of none-destruction inspection, it seems that the stones used for the three stories stone pagoda except for the section of jeweled cover are similar to the values for the magnetic susceptibility and the ${\gamma}$-ray spectrometer. On the other hand, Jeweled cover and the values of Tohamsan granite are alike. Namsan granite is appropriate in case that the stone used for three storied stone pagoda must be replaced to fresh rock because of damage by weathering. Meanwhile, Namsan granite is seperated from Yangsan fault. Due to this fact, Namsan granite appears to not only Mt. Namsan in Gyeongju, but also Dongcheon-dong, Gyeongju, and Huenggok-ri, Pohang. As a result, these two areas are suitable to the candidate area to change the stone used for three storied stone pagoda.

In this study, we surveyed 6 times for the actual vegetation type and flora of Amgok wetland (Intermediate moor area, Alnus japonica community area) and it's watershed area in Tohamsan district, Gyeongju National Park from Apr. to Nov. in 2011. As a result of the actual vegetation type, most vegetation of watershed area was disturbed by human activity except wetland area. Even though the wetland is relatively broad compared with it's watershed, the wetland: watershed is around 1:10. The flora was surveyed 65 family, 184 species, 1 subspecies, 39 variety, 8 forma and totally 233 taxonomic group in the watershed. The wetland type was looked intermediate moor. Naturalized plants was surveyed 2taxonomic in the wetland area and total was17 taxonomic. This area has relatively broad wetland and soundly conserved. But several Salix koreensis and Acer ginnala are growing so needed the interest and monitoring.
The geomorphic deformation of the alluvial fans by tectonic movement was investigated along the lineaments of the northem part of the Ulsan(Bulguksa) fault system. Based on the aerial photographs interpretation and field surveys Ulsan fault system was identified as an active reverse fault which has displaced the Quatemary fan deposits. Buguksa fault system strikes for the direction of NW-SE and N-S. These two lineaments of active fault are crossing at Jinty village in Gyeongju city and the fault plane forms here almost vertical dip. The lateral pressures from the two directions have possibly influenced on the formation of the vertical dip at jinty villagy. It should be resulted from that the two pressures responsible for the active reverse fault at which the one with the NW-SE strike thrusts the hanging wall of Tohamsan block southwestward and the other pressure with the N-S strike thrusts it westward over the foot wall of the fan deposits. The marine oxygen isotope stage 8(0.30-0.25 Ma. BP) and stage 6(0.20-0.14 Ma. BP) are presumed to be the ages of high and middle surfaces of the alluvial fan, repectively. The vertical displacements on the high surfaces along the Bulguksa fault system are about 1.05 m at Ha-Dong, 9.5-10.5 m at Jinhyun-Dong, and about 10 m high at Jinty village. And the vertical displacement on the middle surface was measured about 6 m high at Ha-Dong. The average slip rate of vertical displacements is calculated about 0.03-0.43 mm/y.
