  • Objective: In the present study, the effects of visual restriction and unstable base dual-task training (VUDT), stable base dual-task training (SDT), and on stroke patients' balance and concentration abilities were examined. Design: Two-group pretest-posttest design. Methods: Dual-task training was conducted for thirty persons with chronic stroke who were hospitalized or receiving physical therapy and were randomly assigned to either the VUDT group (n=15) or the SDT group (n=15). The subjects were divided into two groups of 15 participants each, the VUDT group and the SDT group. Dual-task training was administered for 30 minutes per session, three times a week for 8 weeks. The participants' balance was measured via the center of pressure migration distances, functional reach test (FRT), Berg Balance Scale (BBS), and attention was measured using the trail-making test and the Stroop test. Results: In comparisons within each group, the two groups showed significant differences before and after the training (p<0.05). In the comparisons between the groups, the VUDT group showed significant improvements in center of pressure (COP), FRT, and BBS, and TMT compared to the SDT group (p<0.05). Conclusions: It would be more effective to conduct dual-task training as a rehabilitation training program under vision restriction and unstable supporting surface conditions than to conduct the test under unstable supporting plane conditions to improve balance and attention in chronic stroke patients.

  • Composition-controlled ternary components chalcogenides germanium tin sulfide ($Sn_xGe_{1-x}S$) nanoparticles were synthesized by a novel gas-phase laser photolysis reaction of tetramethyl germanium, tetramethyl tin, and hydrogen sulfide mixture. Subsequent thermal annealing of as-grown amorphous nanoparticles produced the crystalline orthorhombic phase nanoparticles. All these composition-tuned nanoparticles showed excellent cycling performance of the lithium ion battery. The germanium sulfide nanoparticles exhibit a maximum capacity of 1200 mAh/g after 70 cycles. As the tin composition (x) increases, the capacity maintains better at the higher discharge/charge rate. This novel synthesis method of tin germanium sulfide nanoparticles is expected to contribute to expand their applications in high-performance energy conversion systems.

In recent years non-invasive high resolution B-mode ultrasound methods have been developed to measure the intima-media thickness(IMT) of the carotid artery as an indicator for early atherosclerosis. Itis known that obesity plays a role in the development of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease, and it has also been reported that not only the amount but also the distribution of body fat is important. This study investigated the relationship between obesity and the development of carotid atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetic patients. Methods: Carotid IMT was measured by ultrasound B-mode imaging in 144 patients with type 2diabetes mellitus. All subjects underwent assessment for the degree and distribution of obesity, the presence of coronary artery disease risk factors, and the presence of diabetic complications. Resuts: Carotid IMT was increased in the abdominal obese group defined by waist circurference. However, there was no significant difference in carotid TMT between the non-obese group and obese group as defined by body mass index, waist to hip ratio, and total body fat percent measured by bio electrical impedance analysis. There were positive correlations between carotid IMT and age, duration of diabetes, systolic blood pressure, and waist circumference. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed the variable that interacted independently with carotid IMT was age in type 2 diabetic patients. Carotid IMT was significantly increased in type 2 diabetic patients with macrovascular complications and microvascvlar complications .Conclusion: This study suggested that abdominal obesity rather than general obesity was associated with carotid atherosclerosis reflected by increment of carotid IMT in type 2 diabetic subjects.

  • The grain morphology, the changes in morphology and Jc with the thermo-mechanical treatment (TMT) history, the field dependence of Jc and the nature of intergranular bonding were studied in $T_{10.8}$$Pb_{.2}$$Bi_{0.2}$$Sr_{1.8}$$Ba_{0.2}$$Ca_{2.2}$$Cu_{3}$$O_{z}$/Ag tapes. As a result, incorporation of intermediate rolling during the final heat-treatment resulted in of plate-like TI-1223 grains, and thus enhanced Jc. Jc's near 2.5$\times$104 A/cm2 at 77 K and 0 T were obtained in just rolled tapes with an excellent reproducibility. The high Jc's seem to grain-connectivity easy recovery of excellent grain-connectivity during final heat-treatment after inter -mediate rolling, probably due to retarded T1 evaporation and excessive Ca content in the present composition. The strong field dependence of Jc even in low fields, however, indicated that there still existed significant weak-links and the degree of directional grain-alignment was far from the desired one. The intergranular binding in the tapes seemed to be mainly dominated by SIS junctions.

  • The present work was aimed to examine the variation of precipitations and mechanical properties by thermomechanical treatments (TMT) in Al-2.19 wt%Li and Al-2.0 wt%Li-0.11 wt%Zr alloys. This study was performed by TEM, SEM observation, DSC, electrical resistance measurement, hardness and tensile strength measurement. First peak of resistivity aged at $90^{\circ}C$ was caused by precipitation of ${\delta}^{\prime}$-precursor phase, and second peak was caused by precipitation of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ phase. According to this result, the precipitation process of Al-2.19 wt%Li alloy was as follow : $SSSS{\rightarrow}{\delta}^{\prime}$-precursor phase ${\rightarrow}{\delta}^{\prime}$ (Coherent ${\rightarrow}$ Semi-coherent) ${\rightarrow}{\delta}$. In a Al-2.0 wt%Li-0.11 wt%Zr ternary alloy, the first peak of resistivity was appeared at initial aging heat-treatment. It is result from exsistant of ${\delta}^{\prime}$-precursor phase. The effect acceleration in a binary alloy was not appeared and the over-aging ternary alloy was accelerated with increase of the reduction rate. It is caused by combination effect of ${\delta}^{\prime}$ and composite phase.

  • In this study, the effect of the automotive haptic-seat technology which can transmit the driving information by the vibro-stimulus from the seat was investigated to overcome previous system's limitation relied on the visual and audial method and to help handicap driving. A prototype haptic seat cover with 30 coin-type motors and driver module were developed for this sake. In an experiment of seat vibration stimulation being performed under virtual driving situation by targeting the elderly aged over 65 years old, average score of test subjects for total vibration recognition was 3.5/4 points and recognition rate of 87.5% was represented. In addition, a result that all the test subjects totally recognized overspeed warning signal of 4 times was represented. As a result of statistical analysis for vibration recognition score by each group depending on TMT score, a significant difference was not found and a result that tactile function of which vibration is recognized even by the aged whose visual, perceptional function is declined showed an equal ability was obtained.. In this study it was shown that the seat vibration stimulus could be used to transfer the old drivers' information while driving.

  • This paper investigates the effect of the lack of ESG management legitimacy on the firm's corporate giving. From the institutional theory perspective, ESG management has become a globally institutionalized business standard. A firm can survive and prosper when it conforms to the institutionalized norms. Thus, we argue that firms will increase corporate giving to restore social legitimacy when they experience a lack of social legitimacy regarding ESG management. Our study also focuses on the role of family executives. As family members identify themselves with their firm and intend to hand over the business to next generation, they highly value the social legitimacy of their firm. Therefore, the relationship between the lack of ESG management legitimacy and the firm's corporate giving will be further strengthened as the number of family executives increases. Empirical results provide supports for the two hypotheses.

  • Objectives: Depression, sleep complaints and cognitive impairments are commonly observed in the elderly. Elderly subjects with depressive symptoms have been found to show both poor cognitive performances and sleep disturbances. However, the relationship between sleep complaints and cognitive dysfunction in elderly depression is not clear. The aim of this study is to identify the association between sleep disturbances and cognitive decline in late-life depression. Methods: A total of 282 elderly people who underwent nocturnal polysomnography in a sleep laboratory were enrolled in the study. The Korean version of the Neuropsychological Assessment Battery developed by the Consortium to Establish a Registry for Alzheimer's Disease (CERAD-K) was applied to evaluate cognitive function. Depressive symptoms were assessed with the geriatric depression scale (GDS) and subjective sleep quality was measured using the Pittsburg sleep quality index (PSQI). Results: The control group ($GDS{\leq}9$) when compared with mild ($10{\leq}GDS{\leq}16$) and severe ($17{\leq}GDS$) depression groups, had significantly different scores in the Trail making test part B (TMT-B), Benton visual retention test part A (BVRT-A), and Stroop color and word test (SCWT)(all tests p<0.05). The PSQI score, REM sleep duration, apnea-hypopnea index and oxygen desaturation index were significantly different across the three groups (all indices, p<0.05). A stepwise multiple regression model showed that educational level, age and GDS score were predictive for both TMT-B time (adjusted $R^2$=35.6%, p<0.001) and BVRT-A score (adjusted $R^2$=28.3%, p<0.001). SCWT score was predicted by educational level, age, apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and GDS score (adjusted $R^2$=20.6%, p<0.001). Poor sleep quality and sleep structure alterations observed in depression did not have any significant effects on cognitive deterioration. Conclusion: Older adults with depressive symptoms showed mild sleep alterations and poor cognitive performances. However, we found no association between sleep disturbances (except sleep apnea) and cognitive difficulties in elderly subjects with depressive symptoms. It is possible that the impact of sleep disruptions on cognitive abilities was hindered by the confounding effect of age, education and depressive symptoms.

  • This study was carried out to develop of environmental risk assessments and the biosafety guide for Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean at LMO (Living Modified Organism) isolation field. In LMO quarantine area of National Institute of Agricultural Sciences, insect species diversities and population densities on vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean and non-GM soybeans (Willams 82 and Seoritae) were investigated. A total of 17,717 individuals of 77 species from 8 orders were collected in LMO isolation field. In three type soybeans field, total of 5,250 individuals in Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean, 5,510 individuals in Willams 82, and 6,957 individuals in Seoritae were collected, respectively. There was no difference between the population densities of insect pests, natural enemies and other insects on Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean and Willams 82, while natural enemies density on Seoritae was higher than on Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean, but insect pests density on Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean was higher. These results provided the insects diversity for risk assessment survey of Vitamin E enhanced transgenic soybean and suggested that the guideline could be useful to detect LMO crops.
