  • Three di-acyl chlolide reagents, adipoyl chloride, terephthaloyl chloride and isophthaloyl chloride, were used as spacer reagents to prepare bonded type of three cellulose (3,5-dimethylphenyl)carbamate (CDMPC) chiral stationary phases (CSPs). The CDMPC CSPs were prepared using these three acid chlorides as spacer agents at the 6-position of the primary hydroxyl group on the glucose unit of cellulose regioselectively. The chiral recognition ability of the prepared CSPs for five racemates was evaluated by normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with the following mobile phases: hexane/isopropanol (IPA), hexane/IPA/tetrahydrofuran (THF) and hexane/IPA/chloroform. The result showed that these prepared CSPs can be used in THF and chloroform solutions and the chiral recognition abilities of the CSPs were improved depending on the eluents and chiral samples.

  • In this paper, the regenerated silk fibroin (SF)/nylon 6 blend filaments were fabricated using wet spinning technique and the effect of coagulant on the post drawing and morphology of blend filaments was investigated. In the result of wet spinnability, methanol, acetone, DMF, and THF showed relatively good coagulation strength and fiber formation for the regenerated SF. On the contrary, they did not exhibit strong enough to produce a uniform nylon 6 filament due to the lack of coagulation strength. In the examination of post drawing performance, methanol showed the highest maximum draw ratio of the blend filament over all blend ratios. The maximum draw ratio of SF/nylon 6 blend filaments decreased with the reduction of SF content regardless of type of coagulant. SEM observation showed the consistent result with that of post-drawing performance. As SF content decreased, the uniform and regular structure was changed to irregular one. In particular, the severe macro-phase separation between SF and nylon 6 could be detected in the 50/50 SF/nylon 6 blend filaments coagulated in methanol and THF.

  • Poly(3-methyltetrahydrofuran)(3-MTHF) and poly(tetrahydrofuran-co-3-MTHF), having very narrow molecular weight distribution were successfully synthesized via photo-induced living cationic polymerization in the presence of diphenyliodonium hexafluorophosphate. Linear relationship between % conversion and number average molecular weight of resulting poly(3-MTHF) in the polymerization of 3-MTHF, carried out at -22$^{\circ}C$, indicates that the 5-membered cyclic oxonium ion, being responsible for the cationic propagation is stabilized by ion pall formation with hexafluorophosphate anion, supplied from the salt. The linear relationship between two parameters, mentioned above was also observed in the copolymerization of 3-MTHF with THF, carried out at 0 and -22$^{\circ}C$. The molecular structures including the copolymer composition and average molecular weight and its distribution is determined by reaction parameters such as monomer feed ratio and reaction temperature.

  • In the recycle process of organic solvent, the atmospheric oxygen can cause autoxidation and product peroxide. The time-saving method to evaluate the hazards has been required. In this study, oxygen pressure monitoring experiment was proposed as a new method to evaluate autoxidative resistances of solvents. Some of organic solvents were pressurized by oxygen and kept under isothermal condition. At the same time, the pressure in the vessel tracked. Iodometrical titration, thermal analysis and spectroscopic analysis were performed to measure peroxide concentration, the heat of reaction and chemical bonding change. From the results that THF has larger oxygen consumption rate than CPME, it is considered that autoxidative resistance of THF is lower than that of CPME. This method enables to obtain results in shorter time than other methods. These experimental results were consistent with the previous research with longer test durations [1-2].

  • Optical resolution of aminoalcohols had been achived efficiently by use of (R)-2,2'-dihydroxy-l,1'-binaphtholphosphoric acid as the resolving agent in various organic solvents. Racemic aminoalcohols were resolved very easily and high enantiomer yield (about 70% e,e) in THF. On the other hand, absolute configuration of resolved aminoalcohol was (R)-configuration but one of the Valinnol and Phhenylglycinol was anti-type because of sterichindrance.Optical resolution of aminoalcohols had been achived efficiently by use of (R)-2,2'-dihydroxy-1,1'-binaphtholphosphoric acid as the resolving agent in various organic solvents. • We synthesized gold nanonetwork using the amphiphilic polymer brush, poly(oxyethylene) containing decyltri(oxyethylene)thiomethyl ($C_{10}H_{21}(OCH_2CH_2)_3SCH_2-$) side groups, as a stabilizer and/or a template. When tetrabutylammonium borohydride solution in THF was added to a mixture solution of the polymer and $LiAuCl_4$ in THF, 0-D gold nanomaterials were obtained. However, when an aqueous solution of sodium borohydride was added, gold nanonetworks were synthesized. The composites composed of polymer/0-D gold nanomaterials and polymer/gold nanonetworks showed electrical conductivities of ${\sim}10^{-9}$ and ${\sim}10^{-3}S/cm$, respectively, which indicated that the gold nanonetworks increased the electrical conductivity.

  • For the fabrication of multifunctional biopolymer nanocomposites in the combination of carbon nanotubes (CNTs), recently increasing attention has been paid to an effective homogenization of CNTs within polymer matrices and a fine tuning of the concentration. We developed an efficient method to produce homogeneous CNT-polycaprolactone nanocomposites with various and controllable CNT concentrations using an ionically-modified multi-walled CNT, MWCNT-Cl. The modified MWCNTs could be homogeneously dispersed in tetrahydrofuran (THF). Polycaprolactone (PCL) as a biodegradable and biocompatible polymer was smoothly dissolved in the homogeneous MWCNT-Cl/THF solution without agglomeration of MWCNT-Cl. The physicochemical and mechanical properties of the resultant nanocomposites were examined and the biological usefulness was briefly assessed.

  • Alkoxyallylthiopyridazine derivatives which exhibit superior effect for the treatment of hepatic diseases were synthesized from maleic anhydrides. The reaction of maleic anhydrides with hydrazine monohydrate in aq HCl at reflux afforded dihydroxypyridazines, which were transformed to dichloropyridazines with phosphorus oxychloride. The substitution of the first chlorine atom in dichloropyridazines proceeded selectively with alcoholic sodium alkoxides in THF to afford alkoxychloropyridazines, which were converted to alkoxyallylthiopyridazines with lithium 2-propene-1-thiolate in high yields.
