In this study, we attempted to find substitute materials, distillers residue of cassava, alfalfa pellet, and distillers residue of corn, for cotton seed meal in bottle cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus. In all treatments, the total carbon content was comparable with the exception of T4, and the total nitrogen content of T3 was similar to the control group, and C/N ratio of T4 was higher than other treatments. The diameter of plieus was the largest in T2, and the diameter of stipe was the largest in T2 and T4. And the length of stipe was largest in T1 and T2, and the most number of available stipes was in T1 and T3. The yield and bio-efficiency of fruit-body by residue of corn with soluble treatment(T3), were similar to the control of P. ostreatus. Therefore, it was suggested that residue of corn was substituted for cotton seed meal for cultivation of P. ostreatus.
In order to study the effects of supplementation of live yeast(Saccharomyces cerevisiae) on the performance of laying hens, five experiments were conducted. Two experiment were conducted during summer period, one with 37 wk old Dekalb-Delta strain laying birds(Exp. 1) and the other one with 100 wk old molted Nick Chick Brown laying birds(Esp.2) . In each experiment, 240 birds were divided into 12 groups of 20 birds each and randomly distributed. Each of the two experimental diets(Control 71 and 0.05% live yeast supplemented 72) was fed to 6 groups for 4 wks in Exp.1 and 3 wks in Exp.2. Three experiments were conducted during winter period, Exp.2 with 54 wk old Hy-Line strain laying birds, Exp.4 with 52 wk old Hy-Line strain laying birds, and Exp.5 with 36 wk old broiler breeder(Indian River strain). In each experiment, 540 birds were divided into 18 groups of 30 birds each and randomly distributed. Each of the 3 experimental diets(Control:$T_1$0.05% live yeast supplemented:$T_2$ and 0.1% live yeast supplemented : T$_3$) was fed to 9 groups for 6 wks in Exp.3, 9 wks in Exp.4 and 4 wks in Exp.5. In Exp.4, Latin Square design was employed to determine the effects of switching feeds at 3 wk intervals. All hens were housed in cages of commercial farm and experimental diets were made with commercial layer feeds. In Experiment 1, egg production was significantly(P<0.05) higher in $T_2$. Feed intake was significantly (P<higher in 72 at 1st wk but 4 wk average was not significantly different. Feed efficiency was significantly(P<0.01) better in 72 at End wk but 4 wk average was not significantly different. Other parameters, such as weight, soft egg production, cracked egg production and mortality were not significantly different. In Experiment 2, egg production was significantly(P<0.05) higher in $T_2$. Feed efficiency was significantly (P<0.05 and P<0.01) better at End wk and 3rd wk but 3 wk average was not significantly different. Soft egg production was significantly(P<0.05) higher in 72. Other parameters were not significantly different. In Experiment 3, egg productions were significantly(P<0.05) different among treatments : $T_3$ was higher than $T_1$ and $T_2$ was higher than $T_1$. Egg weight of $T_1$ and $T_2$was significantly(P<0.05) heavier than $T_3$. Feed intake of $T_2$ and $T_3$ was significantly(P<0.05) higher than $T_1$ at 6th wk but overall average was not significantly different. Soft egg production were significantly(P<0.01) different among treatments:$T_1$ was higher than $T_3$ was higher than $T_2$. Feed efficiency cracked e99 Production and mortality were not signifcantly different. In Experiment 4, egg production tended to increase as the level of live yeast supplementation increased but they were not statistically different. In Experiment 5, egg production of broiler breeders of $T_3$ was significantly(P<0.01) higher than $T_1$. Feed intake of $T_3$ was significantly(P<0.05) greater than $T_1$ and $T_2$ at 3rd wk but overall average was not significantly different. Fertility and hatchability tended to be higher in the supplemented groups than in the control.
This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of seasoned pork prepared by Korean traditional 4 types seasoning such as soy sauce (T1); Kimchi sauce (T2); pickled shrimps sauce (T3) and onion sauce (T4). The samples were seasoned by the proportion of meat to seasonings (1:1). The seasoned samples were aged at $1{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ for 30 days. The results obtained were as follows; pH of T3 was higher (p<0.05) than other treatments during aging periods. Saccharinity and salinity were higher in T1. Except T3, water holding capacity (WHC) have no significantly (p>0.05) different during the aging. Shear force and Volatile basic nitrogen (VBN) were increased in T1 and T4 with aging periods. TBARS have no significantly (p>0.05) different in all treatments at the 1 day of aging, however T1 was significantly higher (p<0.05) compared with other treatments after 10 days of aging. In surface meat color, a* and b* were higher in T2 and lower in T4 with aging periods. In inner meat color, L* was decreased in all treatments with aging periods, however T4 was no significantly (p>0.05) different during aging periods. a* and b* were increased with aging periods in all treatments. Total plate counts was increased at the 10 days of aging and decreased at the end of aging. Escherichia coli of T1, T2 and T3 were decreased with aging periods, however T4 was significantly (p<0.05) increased with aging periods. Lactobacilli spp. of T2 and T3 were higher than other treatments at the beginning of aging. In sensory evaluation, T4 was higher at the beginning of aging, however T1 and T3 were increased sensory evaluation value with aging periods.
For isotopic exchange labelling of 3,5,3'-triiodothyronine (T$_3$) and thyroxine (T$_4$) with radioiodide in the presence of molecular iodine, T$_3$:I$_2$ or T$_4$:I$_2$ molar ratios, pH, and reaction time are. considered to be important factors. A modified labelling and separation method is proposed in present paper, by which T$_3$-$^{125}$ I and T$_4$-$^{125}$ I can be obtained with the mean labelling yields of 45%, and 50%, respectively. The whole reaction products can be separated by adoption of thin-layer chromatography technique using silica gel plate and the solvent system composd of chloroform, methanol and ammonia.
All diets were based on feeds of fattening period pigs(LY x D, ca. 90 kg) with six treatments, which were the control, containing 5% beef tallow(C), 3% beef tallows and 2% perilla seeds oil(T1), 250 ppm vit. E(${\alpha}$-tocopheryl acetate) in T1(T2), 3% beef tallow and 2% squid viscera oil(T3), 250 ppm vit. E in T3(T4), and 3% beef tallow and 2% CLA(T5), respectively. Produced porks and their carcass characteristics were as follows. The daily gain of pigs was higher in T2 and 73 than any other treatments(p<0.05). Its T2 and T3 was 3.71 and 3.80 respectively, however, there was no significance in feed intake. The highest back fat thickness was shown in control group on market weight, while there was no significant difference on their initial weight. Loin-eye muscle area did not show any significant difference on initial weight and on market weight, however, its T5 was about twice as large as T2's. Content of triglyceride in blood was high in control group as compared to others; especially, the values for T3, T4 and T5 were significantly low(p <0.05). There was no significant difference in total cholesterol contents, and the ratio of HDL cholesterol/total cholesterol was higher in vit. E treated samples than untreated sample. Atherogenic index was high in sample with T3 and low in sample with T2. The perilla seed oil, squid fish oil, and vit. E decreased atherogenic index. Dressing percentage, back fat thickness, and grade did not show any significant difference(p >0.05); however, T2, C and T3, T1 and T5 showed 4.67, 4.29, 4.00 respectively, in grades.
To examine the effects of feed additives on the expression of perpheral blood cell surface molecules, phagocytosis and antigen specific antibody formation, broilers were randomly assigned to $T_{1}$ , $T_{2}$ , $T_{3}$ , and $T_{4}$ groups. $T_{1}$ group was fed diet without any additives for 13 weeks, $T_{2}$ was fed diet with full fat flax, $T_{3}$ was fed diet with full fat flax containing $\alpha$-tocopherol, and $T_{4}$ was fed diet with full- fat flax containing $\alpha$-tocopherol and selenium. Since 5 weeks feeding the data were examined by flow cytometry using a panel of monoclonal antibodies. The expression of monocyte in all treated groups was significantly increased, in which the ratio of expression in $T_{3}$ group was especially evident. B cell expression of all treated groups was increased more than 2 fold. The expression of CD4+(helper T cell) cell and CD8+(cytotox$ic^pressor T cell) cell of all treated groups also was increased.ed.
This study aims to establish the most favorable recipe for Mokwapyun. The ingredients were changed in a variety aspects. The kind and amount of sugar and starch are following: white sugar, brown sugar, honey(4T, 5T); white sugar and honey, brown sugar and honey(2T+2T, 3T+1T, 3T+2T). There are potato starch and mungbean starch. In this, the amount of starch to water are 4t to 3t and 5t to 3t. The moisture content of Mokwa was 76.23%, and that of Mokwapyun made of mungbean starch 41~50%, and the Mokwapyun made of potato starch was 38~47%. The pH of Mokwa juice was 3.15~3.43. The brix of Mokwa juice was 5.3%, and that of Mokwapyun made of potato starch was 43.1~45.9%, and the Mokwapyun made of mungbean starch was 40.1~46.5%. Mokwapyun tasted the best when it was made of potato starch(starch to water=4t to 3t) mixed white sugar(3T) and honey(1) than that of made of one kind of sugar, and was higer evaluated the texture.
Irradiation of N-t-butyl-N-chloro-3-phenylpropanesulfonamide (1a) in benzene at $20^{\circ}C$ using 450 W high pressure mercury arc lamp in the presence of oxygen affored N-t-butyl-3-phenylpropanesulfonamide (2), N-t-butyl-3-chloro-3-phenylpropanesulfonamide (3), and N-t-butyl-3-oxo-3-phenylpropanesulfonamide (4). Similarly, N-t-butyl-4- (5), N-t-butyl-4-chloro-4- (6), and N-t-butyl-4-phenylbutanesulfonamides (7) were obtained from N-t-butyl-N-chloro-4-phenylbutanesulfonamide (1b). However, irradiation of N-t-butyl-N-chloro-5-phenylpentanesulfonamide (1c) under the same conditions gave complex mixtures. These results indicate that sulfonamidyl radical generated from each of 1a and 1b can abstract intramolecularly a hydrogen atom from the benzylic position only by forming six and seven-membered transition states, respectively.

The present study was undertaken to examine serum concentration of free $T_3,\;T_4$, in various functional states of the thyroid by Amerlex RIA kit method, which uses unidentified $T_3,\;T_4-labelled$ analogues, said to be unreactive with $T_3,\;T_4-binding$ proteins in serum, together with an antibody that binds both analogue and $T_3,\;T_4$. The test method has been compared with free $T_4$ index, which was product of total serum thyroxine and $T_3$ resin uptake ratio. Free $T_4$ value by this method was found to have a highly significant positive correlation with a free $T_4$ index (r; 0.957, p<0.005) and total $T_4$ (r:0.89, p<0.005) also, it was similar to other free $T_4$ measuring methods previously reported. So, it was showen to have the clinical utility as the screening test for thyroid function because it was a rapid; convinient, and reliable method for quantifying the free $T_4,\;T_3$ concentration in various thyroidal functional states.
A study has been made to estimate biomass and NPP based on equation form of $Wt=aD^bH^c$ for Quercus variabilis and Quercus mongolica natural stands(Mean age; 67, 62yrs old) in Chungju. Equation form of $Wt=aD^bH^c$ was more adequate than $Wt=a(D^2H)^b$ and $Wt=aD^b$ for the estimation of the biomass and NPP. Individual biomass was compared using a paired t-test by tree component which showed no significant differences. Total aboveground biomass of Quercus mongolica was 130.6 t/ha and that of Quercus variabilis was 137.4 t/ha. Biomass of Q. mongolica was composed of foliage 5.1 t/ha(3.9%), dead branch 3.5 t/ha(2.7%), live branch 29.7 t/ha(23.0%), bolebark 16.2 t/ha(12.5%), and bolewood 74.9 t/ha(58.0%), and that of Q. variabilis was composed of foliage 3.8 t/ha(2.9%), dead branch 2.9 t/ha(2.2%), live branch 24.3 t/ha(18.4%), bolebark 20.4 t/ha(15.5%), and bolewood 80.4 t/ha(61.0%). Net primary production was 10.0 t/ha/yr in the Q. mongolica stand and 8.6 t/ha/yr in the Q. variabilis stand, respectively. Net primary production of Quercus forest in Chungju was very close to the mean NPP of the broadleaved forest of temperate zone.
