  • Staurolite grains in staurolite, kyanite and sillimanite zones occurred in the Littleton Formation, Northcentral Massachusetts have interpreted to form by Barrovian-type metamorphism during Acadian orogeny. However, various occurrence of staurolite in the three zones, (a) porphyroblast, (b) randomly oriented and coarse-grained muscovite pseudomorph after staurolite, (c) recrystallized staurolite at the margin of garnet porphyroblast and within the pseudomorph, indicates that they have resulted from polymetamorphism. Staurolite in these three metamorphic zones can be formed by demise of chlorite or chloritoid that depends on difference of bulk-rock compositions and changes of P-T conditions. Staurolite modal proportion calculated in MnNCKFHASH system using THERMOCALC program reveals that staurolite could have grown with garnet with increasing pressure and temperature, if it coexist with chlorite. After demise of chlorite and appearance of biotite, staurolite mode decrease with increasing pressure and temperature. Therefore, based on the previous P-T paths for the Acadian metamorhism, staurolite porphyroblast grew with garnet during 400-370 Ma. Randomly oriented and coarse-grained muscovite pseudomorphs after staurolite probably have grown due to heating with appearance of kyanite and sillimanite. Consequently, pseudomorphisrn of staurolite occurred by heating derived from locally intense Alleghanian shearing (ca. 320-300 Ma) overprinted the Acadian metamorphism. Recrystallized fine-grained staurolite in sillimanite zone observed between the grain boundaries of muscovite in the pseudomorphs and at the edge of garnet porphyrobasts has formed during decreasing temperature and pressure (ca. 300-280 Ma) after peak temperature (ca. $700^{\circ}C$) of the Allegllanian metamorphism.

  • Polymeric meterials that are used for noise and vibration damper in wood/polymer/wood sandwich composites, must have a high loss factor(tan ${\delta}$), and at the same time the storage modulus(E) of $5{\times}10^7$ to $10^9$ dyne/$cm^2$ must withstand over a wide temperature and frequency ranges. In this study, the series of epoxy resinlpolyacrylate interpenetrating polymer networks(IPNs) were synthesized by simultaneous polymerization. Their dynamic tensile properties were measured at 110Hz using Rheovibron instrument. Composite damping factor(tan ${\delta}_c$) and dynamic bending modulus($E_c,\;E_^{\prime\prime}c$) of wood/polymer/wood sandwich composites were measured at 110Hz using a Rheovibron in bending mode of vibration. These dynamic tensile studies indicated that cured epoxy resin/polyacrylates IPNs were semicompatible in the sense that both the shifting of T($E^{\prime\prime}_{max}$) or T(tan ${\delta}_{max}$) and the broadening of glass transition temperature range were observed. Especially, the cured Epikote871/P(n-BMA) IPNs of composition 70/30 to 50/50 showed a relatively high tan a and appropriate E' value over a wide temperature range; consequently the tan a e curves of wood/IPNs/wood sandwich composites was broadened over a wide temperature range.

  • The lattice vibration and crystal structure of alkaline earth metal-substituted $RuSr_{1.9}A_{0.1}GdCu_{2}O_{8}$ (A = Ca, Sr, and Ba) have been investigated with micro-Raman spectroscopy. The present $RuSr_{1.9}A_{0.1}GdCu_{2}O_{8}$ materials show not only several weak Raman peaks corresponding to the vibrations of $O_{Cu}$ and $O_{Ru}$ but also strong characteristic phonon lines related to $O_{Sr}$ vibration mode. A comparison between the frequency of $O_{Sr}$ vibration and the bond distances of (Ru$O_{Sr}$) and (Cu‒$O_{Sr}$) in the present ruthenocuprates reveals that the vibration energy of $O_{Sr}$ is mainly dependent on the bond distance of (Ru‒$O_{Sr}$). The peak splitting of the $O_{Sr}$ phonon lines was observed for the unsubstituted $RuSr_{1.9}A_{0.1}GdCu_{2}O_{8}$, suggesting the existence of two different (Ru‒$O_{Sr}$) bond distances. Such a peak splitting caused by the appearance of low-energy shoulder reflects the presence of internal charge transfer pathway from the $RuO_2$ plane to the superconductive $CuO_2$ one. After the substitution of Sr with Ca or Ba, the low-energy shoulder peak of $O_{Sr}$ vibration becomes suppressed, underscoring the depression of internal charge transfer between the $RuO_2$ and $CuO_2$ planes. The weakened role of $RuO_2$ layer as charge reservoir in the $RuSr_{1.9}A_{0.1}GdCu_{2}O_{8}$8 (A = Ca, Ba) would be responsible for the depression of $T_c$ upon the Ca/Ba substitution.

  • Knowledge is composed through the interaction between the concept structure already held by students and their experience, and learning can be said to be the active process of solving the cognitive conflict caused by this interaction. Therefore, this study consists in showing the effective learning method and finding out the elements which the teacher has to own, through examining several forms of pre-conception or mis-conception of the inertia, the force-equilibrium, the action and reaction, the heat, and the electric current, and then finding out their solution and studying student's change in science concepts. For this study, the types of concept on the five above-mentioned materials which students have were examined through the concept-classifying question paper, and the classes to which the class mode for the change of concepts applied, were practised in each different classroom by each different instructor - a professor, a scientist, a teacher, and two students, respectively. And the effect of the teaching strategy based on these classes, and each different instructor' influence on the change of concept in students. were examined. The result of my study is as follows; 1. Students have various types of pre-conception which are different from science concept, and these types of pre-conception tend to last even after learning in class. 2. The thoughts on the correct science concept of the high school third-grade students who learned the physics in the traditional teaching method, and the second grade students who don't learn the physics yet, were nearly equal those of the second grade students by receiving the physics class through the cognitive conflict course were greatly changed especially that students showed the distinct change on mechanics and electric current. 3. Students didn't show the remarkable change of the science concept on the five materials in the four kinds of experimental classes by each different instructor but in the part of mechanics, there was the distinct change between the class by professor and those by the students. This was due to the difference of the authority and the attitude of the concept demonstrator. 1) The authority, the kind attitude, and the responsibility of the expert played an important role in the correct concept-formation of mechanics part - especially in the case of the mis-conception caused by the intuitive belief. 2) In the class by instructor with the democratic teaching method, the change of concept took place more easily, because in his class students could discuss the subject freely, so that they might experience the thought course to give them the confidence on the science concept.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the multi band Transceiver Assembly(TCA) for the Multi Channel Synthetic Aperture Radar(MCSAR) containing C-band, X-band, Ku-band and we researched to verify electrical performance of TCA. The transceiver consists of transmitters, receivers, signal selection modules for each band, and stability oscillator, frequency synthesizer, controller, power distributor. The transceiver has a receive path selection and bandwidth selection functions in accordance with the operating mode. And the transceiver can transmit and receive all three bands simultaneously, each band has a bandwidth of up to 300 MHz. Final transmission output of transceiver for each band is over 20 dBm to be suitable for driving the T/R module. Receiver bandwidth is selected according to the required function and receiver gain has approximately C-band 52 dB, X-band 50 dB, Ku-band 60 dB, the maximum noise figure of Ku-band V polarization is 4.28 dB in the whole band H, V polarization. As a result of the electrical performance test, a multi-band TCA is satisfied the property requirements of the MCSAR.

  • In cognitive radio ad-hoc networks, common control channel overload and packet collisions are occured due to indiscriminate broadcasting of control packets. So that the path reliability is reduced and control channel is easily saturated. In this paper, we propose a new routing algorithm considering the probability of appearance of primary user and channel status of neighbor nodes. When the source node needs to transmit a data packet to the destination, it performs route discovery process by exchanging control messages using a control channel in ADOV CR Ad-hoc networks. If any intermediate node doesn't have common data channel with previous node to transmit data, it doesn't rebroadcast control packet. And if it has common data channels with previous node, each node determines channel contribution factor with the number of common channels. Based on the channel contribution factor, each node performs different back-off broadcasting. In addition, each node controls control packet flooding by applying to proposed advanced mode using such as number of available channels and channel stability. With the proposed method, the number of control packets to find the data transmission path and the probability of collision among control packets can be decreased. While the path reliability can be increased. Through simulation, we show that our proposed algorithm reduces packet collisions in comparison with the traditional algorithm.

  • One-dimensional nanosturctures such as nanowires and nanotube have been mainly proposed as important components of nano-electronic devices and are expected to play an integral part in design and construction of these devices. Silicon carbide(SiC) is one of a promising wide bandgap semiconductor that exhibits extraordinary properties, such as higher thermal conductivity, mechanical and chemical stability than silicon. Therefore, the synthesis of SiC-based nanowires(NWs) open a possibility for developing a potential application in nano-electronic devices which have to work under harsh environment. In this study, one-dimensional nanowires(NWs) of cubic phase silicon carbide($\beta$-SiC) were efficiently produced by thermal chemical vapor deposition(T-CVD) synthesis of mixtures containing Si powders and hydrocarbon in a alumina boat about $T\;=\;1400^{\circ}C$ SEM images are shown that the temperature below $1300^{\circ}C$ is not enough to synthesis the SiC NWs due to insufficient thermal energy for melting of Si Powder and decomposition of methane gas. However, the SiC NWs are produced over $1300^{\circ}C$ and the most efficient temperature for growth of SiC NWs is about $1400^{\circ}C$ with an average diameter range between 50 ~ 150 nm. Raman spectra revealed the crystal form of the synthesized SiC NWs is a cubic phase. Two distinct peaks at 795 and $970\;cm^{-1}$ over $1400^{\circ}C$ represent the TO and LO mode of the bulk $\beta$-SiC, respectively. In XRD spectra, this result was also verified with the strongest (111) peaks at $2{\theta}=35.7^{\circ}$, which is very close to (111) plane peak position of 3C-SiC over $1400 ^{\circ}C$ TEM images are represented to two typical $\beta$-SiC NWs structures. One is shown the defect-free $\beta$-SiC nanowire with a (111) interplane distance with 0.25 nm, and the other is the stacking-faulted $\beta$-SiC nanowire. Two SiC nanowires are covered with $SiO_2$ layer with a thickness of less 2 nm. Moreover, by changing the flow rate of methane gas, the 300 sccm is the optimal condition for synthesis of a large amount of $\beta$-SiC NWs.

  • This study utilizes the dataset of Topex/Poseidon(T/P) altimeter sea surface height (1992-2000 yr., 286 cycles)to investigate the tempore-spatial variability in the East (Japan) Sea. Optimal interpolation (Ol) technique was applied to the pre-processed T/P dataset (level 2) to produce sea surface height anomaly (SSHA) map on regular grids. Spectral analyses of the timeseries of the SSHA at chosen stations and empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis of the SSHA in the entire East Sea were made. Distribution of the SSHA can be divided by the southern and northern regions sharply by the polar front situated in the middle of the East Sea. The southern region under the direct influence of the Tsushima Current exhibits higher amplitude of the SSHA fluctuation, while the northern region does relatively smaller one. The spatio-temporal variability of the SSHA in the East Sea can be characterized by the five modes of the EOFs accounting for more than 85% of the total variance. The first mode dominates the SSHA variation in the entire domain with strong seasonal and inter-annual periods accounting for the 72.3% of the total variance. The other modes (up to 5th account for 14%) are responsible for the SSHA variation associated with the local current system, meandering of the polar frontal axis, and mesoscale eddies. Spectral peaks with significant confluence level show semi-annual, annual and interannual (2, 3-4 years) periods.

  • This study aims to develop the model of needs analysis for lifelong education program in order to verify social needs as well as personal needs. The overall process of this study is as follows. Firstly, a questionaire based on six mode classification of lifelong education program was invented in order to apply to program development. Secondly, a questionaire was designed to evaluate personal needs and social needs simultaneously. Thirdly, t-test, needs analysis of Borich model, and the Locus for Focus model were conducted with a view to analyze the difference between personal needs and social needs. As a result, there showed the categories of education which are high in both personal and social needs, whereas a category like certification program is higher in social needs rather than in personal needs. The results represent the necessities of promoting programs which are high in social needs even if there is no personal needs. Therefore the needs survey and the needs analysis need to be conducted to find out not only personal needs but also social needs.

  • In this study, two low-swirl nozzles with the same SN (Swirl Number) but different mass ratio (m) of the core part and the swirler part were designed to perform an atmospheric pressure combustion test. For each nozzle, a combustion test was conducted according to the adiabatic flame temperature, and the flame structure, emissions, and combustion instability mode were identified. Although the flame structure was significantly different, the CO emission was similar, and the NOx emission was also more related to combustion dynamics than the flame structure. Combustion dynamics and NOx emission were identified while adjusting the convection delay time by changing the position of the fuel injection nozzle. It was confirmed that when the convection delay time is in the region of (3+4n)/4T±1/4T (n=0,1,2,...), the combustion instability is strong, and in the opposite case, the combustion instability is very weak.
