Performance characteristics of a refrigeration systems with various expansion valves and superheat changes were investigated experimentally. Experimental data have been taken utilizing three different devices; a thermostatic expansion valve, a linear type electronic expansion valve and a solenoid type electronic expansion valve. The data taken from tile three types of expansion valves were discussed with the temperature distribution of each zone in the evaporator and the superheat changes of the evaporator outlet In each zone temperature distribution fluctuated larger with the thermostatic expansion valve than with the electronic expansion valves. The optimum superheat ranged from $5^{\circ}C\;to\;15^{\circ}C$, and the superheat with the thermostatic expansion valve showed hunting phenomenon, which affected the evaporating and condensing temperature.

This paper presents a generalized expansion method for calculating reliability index in power generation systems. This generalized expansion with a gamma distribution is a very useful tool for the approximation of capacity outage probability distribution of generation system. The well-known Gram-Charlier expansion and Legendre series are also studied in this paper to be compared with this generalized expansion using a sample system IEEE-RTS(Reliability Test System). The results show that the generalized expansion with a composite of gamma distributions is more accurate and stable than Gram-Charlier expansion and Legendre series as addition of the terms to be expanded.

The appropriate maintenance of highway roads is critical for the safe operation of road networks and conserves maintenance costs. Multiple methods have been developed to investigate the surface of roads for various types of cracks and potholes, among other damage. Like road surface damage, the condition of expansion joints in concrete pavement is important to avoid unexpected hazardous situations. Thus, in this study, a new system is proposed for autonomous expansion joint monitoring using a vision-based system. The system consists of the following three key parts: (1) a camera-mounted vehicle, (2) indication marks on the expansion joints, and (3) a deep learning-based automatic evaluation algorithm. With paired marks indicating the expansion joints in a concrete pavement, they can be automatically detected. An inspection vehicle is equipped with an action camera that acquires images of the expansion joints in the road. You Only Look Once (YOLO) automatically detects the expansion joints with indication marks, which has a performance accuracy of 95%. The width of the detected expansion joint is calculated using an image processing algorithm. Based on the calculated width, the expansion joint is classified into the following two types: normal and dangerous. The obtained results demonstrate that the proposed system is very efficient in terms of speed and accuracy.

An experimental study was performed to investigate characteristics of an inverter driven water-to-water refrigeration system with a variation of compressor frequencies and expansion devices. The frequency of a compressor varied from 30Hz to 75Hz, and performance of the systems applying three different expansion devices such as capillary tube, thermostatic expansion valve(TXV), and electronic expansion valve(EEV) were measured. The load conditions were altered by varying the temperature of the secondary fluid entering condenser and evaporator with a constant flow rate. When the test conditions were deviated from the standard value(rated value), TXV and EEV showed better performance than capillary tube due to optimum control of mass flow rate and superheat. In the present study, it was observed that the variable area expansion device had better performance than constant area expansion device in an inverter refrigeration system due to active control of flow area with a change of compressor frequency and load conditions.
Autonomous Station Control System is automatic route control system of large-scale station. The system has flexibility of system step-by-step construction and expandability. A method of step-by-step construction for Autonomous Station Control System has system expansion and subsystem software expansion. The system has autonomous controllability and autonomous coordinability for system step by step construction. With property for a basis, each of subsystem communicates data field. Also, Each subsystem has its own management system, Autonomous Data Manager to manage itself and coordinate with the others. This paper make clear test method for Autonomous Station Control System expansion and software expansion. The first test method of system increasing construction is single station construction test. The second of method is connecting test the neighbor's Autonomous Station Control System. The third of method is connecting test the Autonomous Line Management System. Also, the test method of software expansion take the case of route control subsystem.

The optimal design of transmission system expansion planning is an important part of the overall planning task of electric power system under competitive electricity market environments. One of main keys of the successful grid expansion planning comes from optimal reliability level/criteria decision, which should be given for constraint in the optimal expansion problem. However, it's very difficult to decide logically the optimal reliability criteria of a transmission system as well as generation system expansion planning in a society. This paper approaches a methodology for deciding the optimal reliability criteria for an optimal transmission system expansion planning. A deterministic reliability criteria, BRR (Bus Reserve Rate) is used in this study. The optimal reliability criteria, BRR/sup */, is decided at minimum cost point of total cost curve which is the sum of the utility cost associated with construction cost and the customer outage cost associated with supply interruptions for load considering bus reserve rate at load buses in long term forecasting. The characteristics and effectiveness of this methodology are illustrated by the case study using IEEE-RTS.
A camprehensive review of the expansion behavior of marine pipelines due to thermal and pressure change is presented based on research work over the last 10 years. The review is organized into five main sections, namely free expansion with uniform temperature, free expansion with temperature gradient, expansion with end restraints, expansion of pipe-in-pipe system, and lateral deviation (snaking). Based on the accumulated knowledge of the interactions between the soil and pipeline behavior, a whole pipeline system can be modeled by an accurate finite element method (FEM). This methodology requires a comprehensive understanding and engineering verification of the expansion behavior of marine pipelines.
An expansion device plays an important role in optimizing the heat pumps by controlling refrigerant flow and balancing the system pressures. Conventional expansion devices are being gradually replaced with electronic expansion valves due to increasing focus on comfort, energy conservation, and application of a variable speed compressor. In addition, the amount of refrigerant charge in a heat pump is another primary parameter influencing system performance. In this study, the flow characteristics of the expansion devices are analyzed, and the effects of refrigerant charge amount on the performance of the heat pump are investigated at various operating conditions. Cooling capacity of the heat pump system is strongly dependent on load conditions. The heat pump system is very sensitive with a variation of refrigerant charge amount. But, the performance of it can be optimized by adjusting the flow rate through expansion device to maintain a constant superheat at all test conditions.

This study has been experimented about refrigeration capacity difference. It has been used 3 method, Manual expansion valve, thermostatic expansion valve and capillary expansion valve, and tested under the same condition by using the performance testing of parallel expansion. In temperature change of the temperature room, thermostatic expansion valve method displayed the most lower temperature, $-18^{\circ}C$. In addition, the temperature, just before the expansion, also displayed the best result which was $4^{\circ}C$ lower than other expansion valve. In these results, it can be used for performance testing of parallel expansion refrigeration system.
