Optimization of a semi-batch esterification reactor (반회분 에스테르화 반응기의 최적화)

  • A scheme of dynamic optimization for batch reactor his been developed and applied to a semi-batch esterification reactor. To obtain optimal operating conditions for the given semi-batch reactor system with complex reaction kinetic and process constraints, a general nonlinear programming solver and finite element techniques have been introduced. The optimization results for the complex reactor system have been compared with those of Kumar et al. [1984] to show better optimization performance. The proposed optimizing scheme has been applied to the free end time problem to obtain the realistic operating condition. The results can supply valuable information for economic operation of the given batch esterification reactor.

  • In this paper, proposed a multi-channel charging control strategy for electric vehicle. This control strategy can adjust the charging power according to the calculated state-of-charge (SOC). Electric vehicle (EV) charging system using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed. A stochastic optimization algorithm technique such as PSO in the time-of-use (TOU) price used for the energy cost minimization. Simulation results show that the energy cost can be reduced using proposed method.

  • Systems reliability can be improved by using redundancy and/or developing more reliable components. This papaer considers a joint optimization of both alternatives for a series system. It is shown that the n-stage optimization problem can be decomposed into n single stage subproblem. Each subproblem is further transformed into a univariate optimization problem for which a simple and efficient solution method is developed.

  • This paper presents the cost optimization of a composite I beam floor system, designed to be made from a reinforced concrete slab and steel I sections. The optimization was performed by the mixed-integer non-linear programming (MINLP) approach. For this purpose, a number of different optimization models were developed that enable different design possibilities such as welded or standard steel I sections, plastic or elastic cross-section resistances, and different positions of the neutral axes. An accurate economic objective function of the self-manufacturing costs was developed and subjected to design, resistance and deflection (in)equality constraints. Dimensioning constraints were defined in accordance with Eurocode 4. The Modified Outer-Approximation/Equality-Relaxation (OA/ER) algorithm was applied together with a two-phase MINLP strategy. A numerical example of the optimization of a composite I beam floor system, as presented at the end of this paper, demonstrates the applicability of the proposed approach. The optimal result includes the minimal produced costs of the structure, the optimal concrete and steel strengths, and dimensions.

  • To design high quality products at low cost is one of very important task for engineers Design optimization for performances can be one solution in this task. This is robust design which has been proved effectively in many field of engineering design. In this paper, the concept of robust design is introduced and combined to fuzzy optimization and nonsingleton fuzzy logic system. The optimum parameter set points were obtained by the fuzzy optimization method and nonsingleton fuzzy logic system. These methods are applied to a filter circuit, a part of the audio circuit of mobile radio transceiver. The results are compared each other.

  • A lens system of a camera module for mobile phones is comprised of the composition and design of various shapes of lens. To improve responses such as the modular transfer function (MTF), a lens system should always be constructed by considering uncertainty that can be caused by manufacturing and assembly error. In this study, tolerance optimization using the Latin Hypercube Sampling (LHS) technique is performed. In order to reduce the computational burden of the tolerance optimization process and decrease the influence from numerical noise effectively, we use the Progressive Quadratic Response Surface Modeling (PQRSM), which is one of Sequential Approximate Optimization (SAO) techniques. Using this method, we achieved optimal tolerance for each lens and obtained reliability for satisfying user‘s requirements. In addition, through the design process the manufacturing and assembly cost of a lens system was reduced.

  • A pump design system was constructed by several integrating in-house programs and commercial softwares to design and evaluate centrifugal pumps. An agent-based prototype framework has been developed for collaborative design and optimization of a centrifugal pump. This paper introduces the feasible technology needed to construct a pump design system based on software agents. The integrated design system, developed in the present study, was used in designing a centrifugal pump and modifying its impeller shape by using optimization processes to increase the pump performance.

  • PURPOSES : The objective of this research is establishing system components and optimizing operational procedures in order to systematically manage road cave-ins in urban areas. METHODS : Based on the literature review and alternative comparison, optimization methods is suggested. RESULTS : Throughout the study, location referencing system, database structure, and operation strategy(procedure) were clarified, and the optimization methods for each item were suggested. CONCLUSIONS : Road cave-in management should be focused on user safety rather than focusing on economic aspects. The occurrence of road cave-in should be addressed thoroughly by road management system(location referencing system, database structure, and operation strategy(procedure), and the optimization methods), since they are closely related to road users' safety.

  • This paper presents an application of Differential Search (DS) meta-heuristic optimization algorithm for optimal operation of micro grid system. DS algorithm has the benefit of high convergence rate and precision compared to other optimization methods. The micro grid system consists of a wind turbine, a diesel generator, and a fuel cell. The simulation is applied to micro grid system only. The wind turbine generator is modeled by considering the characteristics of variable output. One day load data which is divided every 20 minute and wind resource for wind turbine generator are used for the study. The method using the proposed DS algorithm is easy to implement, and the results of the convergence performance are better than other optimization algorithms.

  • Although precise temperature control in the heat treatment process is a key factor in process reliability, there are many cases where there is no separate heat source control optimization system in the field. To solve this problem, the program monitors the temperature data according to the heat source change through sensor communication in a recursive method based on multiple variables that affect the process, and the target heat source value and the actual heat treatment heat source to match the internal air temperature and material temperature. A control optimization system was constructed. Through this study, the error rate between the target temperature and the atmosphere (material surface) temperature of around 10.7% with the existing heat source control method was improved to an improved result of around 0.1% using a process optimization algorithm and system.
