Contemporary hotels adopt distinctive designs in order to symbolize themes of various spaces they consist of. This phenomenon shows that the importance of spiritual values reflected through themes of spaces is emphasized as much as those of basic functions and structures of hotels. Above all, a variety of expression methods pervading throughout spaces of guest rooms consist of thematic spaces, visualization of emotions, as well as mixture of artistic genres, ones that are originated from unconsciousness of symbolic theory of C.G. Jung and widely perceived as variations of archetype. Meanings of symbolic expressions derived from the analysis of various hotels can be defined by attributes of local cultures as well as propensities of mythicism, which feature local pride enlightened by natural environments, the spirit of the times, historical events and other transcendental and fantastic topics. These symbolic expressions are metaphysical forms that are made unconsciously and such symbols are far beyond mere historical and cultural signs which require us profound and mature methods to approach. It is pleasing to know that we are living in the modern society in which progresses are being made to better understand minds and metal states of human beings. Given such a circumstantial advantage, researches on meanings of symbolic expressions should not be limited to only those of hotel designs, but also those of religious architectures and museums in which spiritual values are emphasized throughout designs of the spaces they consist of.

코엔 형제의 대표작품 중 하나인 <바톤핑크>에 나타난 캐릭터 사용과 공간 표현 방법에 대해 알아본다. 이 작품의 난해한 내러티브 해석은 작품에 등장하는 많은 상징적인 표현들을 이해해야 가능하다. 주인공과 함께 등장하는 비현실적인 주변 인물들과 공간, 그리고 소품들은 특별한 중의적 의미를 지니며 작가가 구현한 상징적인 세계를 일관되게 유지하고 있다. 이런 장치들은 이 작품의 독특한 세계를 창조하는 데 기여하고 이후 작품에까지 크게 영향을 끼친다. 현실과 공존하는 인지하기 힘든 세계, 그리고 그 세계를 지배하는 강력한 존재는 코엔 형제의 또 다른 대표작들인 <파고>와 <노인을 위한 나라는 없다>에서도 고스란히 드러난다. 본 연구는 코엔 형제의 대표작품들에 나타난 상징적인 캐릭터와 공간 표현 방법에 대해 알아본다.

This paper deals with modeling and computer simulation of a full multibody vehicle model for a driving simulator. The multibody vehicle model is based on the recursive formulation and a corresponding simulation code is generated automatically from AUTOCODE, which is a symbolic computation package developed by the authors using MAPLE. The paper describes a procedure for automatically generating a highly efficient simulation code for the full vehicle model, while incorporating realistically modeled components. The following issues have been accounted for in the procedure, including software design for representing a mechanical system in symbolic form as a set of computer data objects, a multibody formulation for systems with various types of connections between bodies, automatic manipulation of symbolic expressions in the multibody formulation, interface design for allowing users to describe unconventional force-and torque-producing components, and a method for accommodating external computer subroutines that may have already been developed. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed method have been demonstrated by the simulation code developed and implemented for driving simulation.

A three-layered piezoelectric ceramic transducer is fabricated with three piezoelectric ceramic disk transducers and two sheets of thin insulator. Its equvalent circuit is derived from the Mason's model of a thickness-driven piezoelectric transducer. We applied the electric input near its fundamental resonant frequency to the center transducer and connect the output voltages across the left and right transducers in series to the resistor load. Then we investigate the load characteristics at resonant frequencies under various resistor loads and the frequency characteristics near the resonant frequency under no load. Moreover, symbolic expressions for input impedances, voltage ratios, resonant frequencies, and bandwidths have been derived. The values calculated from those symbolic expressions are shown to agree well with the measurement values.

This study explores the imagery of fashion images, drawing from French imaginary research. French anthropologist Gilbert Durand's "anthropological structure of the imaginary" and sociologist Frédéric Monneyron's fashion image theory lay the foundation for a fashion image hermeneutic that emphasizes the connection between imagination and image expression. This study, through extensive literature research and a review of case studies from 1960 to 1999, ultimately creates a table of isotope taxonomy of imaginary fashion. This table is a professional tool that analyzes the symbolic expressions and meanings contained in fashion images to reveal deep social meaning. As a result, it was found that the fashion images of the times have a certain regularity within the same structure as the form of the system, reflecting both the fashion and social aspects. In addition, fashion images can be interpreted methodologically, which enables us to categorize visible expressions in fashion and explore the concept of imagination. Furthermore, beyond the simple aesthetic appeal of fashion images, they not only provide deep insight into our complex inner world and society but also allow us to explore the influence of fashion images that reflect social change.

This research was conducted to define the different conventional meanings of face painting, we can come across easily in recent days, in different times and different cultures. The conclusions of the research are as followed. First, the face painting was mainly done for the symbolic function. Second, in un-cultivated groups, face painting was one way of body art expression and in some cases, the color and the pattern was the tool to give a symbolic massage that was more powerful than a language. The characteristics of the patterning was that they adopted wide range of patterns include geriatrics, abstract, animals, plants and especially the abstract patterns have the groups unique symbolic meanings such as specific pattern appears guard god which was the effort of having a wholeness with the pattern. Third, it is known that in un-cultivated cultures, face painting has a symbolic function whereas in modern society, there is an emphasis on a decorative function. Lastly, the various expressions of modern body decorations are seen as a result of social/cultural states of the settlement ethnic culture and the modern life style of the people who want to have direct and active opinions and individualize and differentiate themselves.

The purpose of this study was to supply the opportunity of being used as a material which can predict future fashion. This study had been divided the symbolic meaning into three parts. The first part was the symbolic expressions in the materials of modern fashion, and the second part was symbolic meaning which was expressed in the accessories, and the last part was the symbolic meaning which was expressed in the physical ornament. The results could be summarized as follows. First, among the forms of heraldry were expressed in modern Fashion, were such as animals like a lion and eagle, which evoked the powerful and lively mood. A vegetable heraldry was expressed on a pattern of textile fabric to pursue the beauty of dress, represented female and classical beauty. A inanimate object heraldry was included all natural material that didn't have all lives the world, represented the mystery and intensity of nature as using the design that sets off the idea through color and figure. Second, in the case of being the forms of heraldry used as a mark or logo in modern fashion, it was visualized the fashion of traditional sense, marine look and military look. This mark or logo had important characteristics of symbolic in that the product had a special meaning and function by trade mark. Third, tattos were used to heighten the people's union in the various subordinate cultures. By ornamenting their bodies, they expressed their special identity and consciousness. Tattos represented a unique menas, which effected a mood of fashion.

Traditional costumes have evolved while reflecting the social, cultural and psychological values of the era. Costumes gain meaning by being worn that also allows their various symbolic meanings to be derived. Costumes worn in festivals by specific societies and organizations have especially apparent symbolism pertaining to their purpose. Most countries have traditional festivals that embody the country's distinct culture, history and traditions. These festivals are acts of consciousness expressing a special meaning of the community. Costumes represent a glimpse of life and culture during a festival period; in addition, the costume's style, color elements and decorations are expressions of community values and a distinct symbolic mechanism. Totemism (a significant element of these festivals) has been passed down for many generations. The current costumes for Totemism are distinct (compared to normal festival costumes) and embody a more symbolic meaning. This study deduces the exaggerated style, the concealment and disguise of the human body, and the pursuit of pleasure expressed in the Totemism costumes of regional European festivals. The symbolization theories of C. G. Jung and an analysis of Totemism costumes allow an understanding of their existential significance, their role as the medium between consciousness and unconsciousness, their meaning of symbolic transcendental unity, and their meaning of giving consciousness to the mind.

시대정신을 함유하고 사회와 역사를 통해 인간을 고찰하며 삶과 현 세대를 자각케 하는 예술적 완성도가 높은 영화의 구성과 상징표현 그리고 스타일 등을 분석하여 그 내적 의미와 철학의 표현을 분석하는 것은 대중예술로서 영화에 있어 매우 뜻 깊으며 가치 있는 연구 일 것이다. 영화 로마는 절제하고 감추고 생략함으로써 대중들의 마음 속 빈틈을 파고들고 절제되었으며, 흑백영화로써 색감도 감췄다. 인종, 자본, 사회적으로 억압된 역사와 가정부로 살아가는 일상의 아이러니한 메시지를 표현하는 상징적 이미지를 통한 미학적 시도를 많이 발견할 수 있다. 많은 대조를 통한 상징적 표현과 사물을 통한 상징적 표현을 영화 속에 그려내며 자신만의 작가주의적인 영상언어를 구사하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 이러한 예술적 가치를 함유한 상업 영화의 분석은 예술영화의 나아갈 바에 대한 척도와 작가주의적 표현기법의 선례로 향후 작품 제작에 있어 도움을 줄 것으로 기대된다.
