  • This study has provided the answer which construction companies to make complete competitive factors for sustainable growth in construction industry with to 21C environment changes. So the purpose of study is to provide a guideline for establishing the strategy of existence and growth. In order to carry out this purpose of study, above all after has been reviewed Quality Management by considering the characteristics of construction companies, TQM component and business performance, the study has been made a close inquiry in causal relationship between TQM component(leadership, participation, education-training) and business performance(safety) in construction industry. The result of the study can be summarized as follows : First, a test was conducted to whether TQM component(participation) has a significantly positive effect on business performance(safety). Second, it was found that there was a positive casual relationship between each of the TQM factors and business performance(safety). TQM(Total Quality Management) factors had great influences on the business performance of construction companies. So construction companies needed to make continuous efforts to enhance the business performance through TQM approach.

  • One of domestic power generation companies, Korea East-West Power Corporation(EWP) had no performance in overseas business just two short years ago. However, EWP has accomplished breakthrough results with the profit of KRW 17.8 billion in 2010, only overseas business part. With overseas power plant growing fast, there is a possibility that EWP may face the limitation of sustainable growth with the current low income structure, which is mainly focused on commissioning and power plant management. Accordingly, this study was made on overseas biomass plant business participation plan through the establishment of joint venture. The characteristics of a joint venture establishment was searched, choosing business partner; the ideas of how to organize a joint venture was drawn, what the role of each partner in joint venture is, and what proper capital share is; and chose business field, considering changing global energy mix, renewable energy market scale, and growth prospects. Considering government policy for renewable energy vitalization and renewable energy market share, We chose the European union as a market to which our business entered.

  • As a contribution to developing fishery stock assessment, optimum sustainable yield and its international standards such as MSY, MEY, and dynamic MEY for six recommended fisheries are developed using bio-economic models. For selecting the appropriate model, five models - Schaefer, Schnute, Walters and Hilborn, Fox, and CY&P models are tested in effort and catch data of six species. Surprisingly all the models except the CY&P model failed to satisfy statistical standards such as goodness-of-fitness and reliability. Generally, the CY&P model holds good fitness and statistically significant level for all of six fisheries. However, the CY&P model for squid, where the intrinsic growth rate is high, could not explain MSY, MEY, and dynamic MEY appropriately. This study makes a contribution to develop the modified model for the intrinsic growth rate of 1. The reformulated model represents the results reasonably even though the estimated equation has not good fitness. Although most of the CY&P models appear to have good fits and validated results for some cases, these models also seem to be quite sensitive to parameters which means a more stable model should be developed and data should carefully be handled. In particular biological and technical interactions such as multispecies, predator prey relationship, age structure and mortality should be taken into account. In addition, economic factors and fishing efforts such as price, cost, technical change and a reasonable function of fishing input should simultaneously be considered.

  • This study aims to analyze effectiveness of the resource use under the total allowable catch system (TACs) of Comb pen shell, a species among TAC targeting ones through its stock assessment based on the surplus production model such as the Clark Yoshimoto Pooley (CYP) model. Particularly, this study is separated into five analysis periods in order to understand changes in Comb pen shell resource and its efficient use after TAC system implemented in 2001. The results of this study are as follows. First, five sustainable yield curves (SYCs) and exponential growth functions (EGFs) produced by the surplus production model based on Gompertz growth function to compare before and after implementation of the Korean TAC system show that the TAC system has generated a positive stock rebuilding effect for Comb pen shell caught by the diver fishery since 2001. Secondly, five profits based on differences between the sustainable total revenue (STR) and the total cost (TC) with respect to fishing efforts present that the TAC system has increased efficiency of resource use of Comb pen shell caught by the diver fishery after implementation of the Korean TAC system. In conclusion, the Korean TAC system has increased efficiency of resource use as well as has led a positive stock rebuilding effect for Comb pen shell.

  • The model of success in South Korea from a pariah state coming from the ruins of the Korean War into a member of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with a trillion dollar economy is encouraging. The Korean economic experience in terms of entrepreneurship and poverty reduction is an intriguing jig saw puzzle to researchers. This paper looks at Korean entrepreneurship history from the 1960s and how it shaped the contemporary sustainable economic development success of the Korean economy. Using a qualitative approach, the study used the Korean case study in comparison with Sub Saharan Africa to explore five powerful lessons on how the region can replicate the Korean entrepreneurship experience. The study shows that entrepreneurship was key to the radical transformation of its economy and government was instrumental in latent nurturing of Korean entrepreneurial spirit.

  • The coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic poses disastrous effects on human lives and hinders global efforts to realize the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The study examined the effects of the pandemic on unemployment toward realizing the SDGs. The downsizing and collapse of businesses have forcibly left many unfortunate Malaysians jobless and without income. The situation may directly influence government efforts to achieve SDG 8 'Decent work and economic growth', which indirectly affects SDG 1 'No poverty', SDG 2 'Zero hunger', and SDG 3 'Good health and well-being'. Pre-and post-pandemic assessments on unemployment and retrenchment level by sector were performed by adopting observation and data comparison methods. Critical findings revealed that the unemployment rate has risen among males and females and the youth, as well as the number of retrenchments. The services sector, specifically the wholesale, retail, trade, and hotel industry showed the highest number of retrenchments. Some important unemployment issues were also covered in this study, including the demand for employment, the role of government and business, and the effect of the gig economy on the current employment landscape. The avenue for future studies can focus on additional societal effects that could prevent the country from attaining the SDGs by 2030.
