  • Interest about social security has recently increased in favor of safety for infrastructure. In addition, advances in computer vision and pattern recognition research are leading to video-based surveillance systems with improved scene analysis capabilities. However, such video surveillance systems, which are controlled by human operators, cannot actively cope with dynamic and anomalous events, such as having an invader in the corporate, commercial, or public sectors. For this reason, intelligent surveillance systems are increasingly needed to provide active social security services. In this study, we propose a core technique for intelligent surveillance system that is based on swarm robot technology. We present techniques for invader enclosing using swarm robots based on multiple distributed object environment. The proposed methods are composed of three main stages: location estimation of the object, specified object tracking, and decision of the cooperative behavior of the swarm robots. By using particle filter, object tracking and location estimation procedures are performed and a specified enclosing point for the swarm robots is located on the interactive positions in their coordinate system. Furthermore, the cooperative behaviors of the swarm robots are determined via the result of path navigation based on the combination of potential field and wall-following methods. The results of each stage are combined into the swarm robot-based invader-enclosing technique on multiple distributed object environments. Finally, several simulation results are provided to further discuss and verify the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed techniques.

  • The population growth along with the urbanization, has caused more problems in many public areas, such as subway airport terminals, hospital, etc. Many surveillance systems have been installed in the public areas, but not all of those can be monitored in real-time, because the operators that observe the monitors are very small compared with the number of the monitors. For example, the observer can miss some crucial accidents or detect after considerable delays. Thus, intelligent surveillance system for preventing the accidents are needed, such as Intelligent Surveillance Systems. in this paper, we propose a new crowd density estimation method which aims at estimating moving crowd using images from surveillance cameras situated in outdoor locations. The moving crowd is estimated from the area where using optical flow. The edge information is also used as feature to measure the crowd density, so we improve the accuracy of estimation of crowd density. A multilayer neural network is designed to classify crowd density into 5 classes. Finally the proposed method is experimented with PETS 2009 images.

  • In this paper, we propose a fast and robust framework for detecting and tracking multiple targets. The proposed system includes two modules: object detection module and object tracking module. In the detection module, we preprocess the input images frame by frame, such as gray and binarization. Next after extracting the foreground object from the input images, morphology technology is used to reduce noises in foreground images. We also use a block-based histogram analysis method to distinguish human and other objects. In the tracking module, color-based tracking algorithm and Kalman filter are used. After converting the RGB images into HSV images, the color-based tracking algorithm to track the multiple targets is used. Also, Kalman filter is proposed to track the object and to judge the occlusion of different objects. Finally, we show the effectiveness and the applicability of the proposed method through experiments.

  • In visual surveillance system abandoned objects in public places are the deliberately left things, which should be automatically detected by intelligent systems in the environment where the number of cameras is increasing. This research deals with the design scheme of a smart security disk system which can detect these abandoned objects automatically and save the relevant image information with the wireless interface of high definition images. By implementing the proposed system in this research it is confirmed that the transmission performance shows 60 frames per second without compression of high definition images and the capability of the disk system shows the relevant images can be saved in a RAID configuration. Also, the proposed visual surveillance software shows a good detection rate of 80% in PAT performance.

  • In this paper, a new intelligent moving target tracking and surveillance system basing on the pan/tilt-embedded stereo camera system is suggested and implemented. In the proposed system, once the face area of a target is detected from the input stereo image by using a YCbCr color model and then, using this data as well as the geometric information of the tracking system, the distance and 3D information of the target are effectively extracted in real-time.

  • The Intelligent Space(ISpace) provides challenging research fields for surveillance, human-computer interfacing, networked camera conferencing, industrial monitoring or service and training applications. ISpace is the space where many intelligent devices, such as computers and sensors, are distributed. According to the cooperation of many intelligent devices, the environment, it is very important that the system knows the location information to offer the useful services. In order to achieve these goals, we present a method for representing, tracking and human following by fusing distributed multiple vision systems in ISpace, with application to pedestrian tracking in a crowd. And the article presents the integration of color distributions into particle filtering. Particle filters provide a robust tracking framework under ambiguity conditions. We propose to track the moving objects by generating hypotheses not in the image plan but on the top-view reconstruction of the scene. Comparative results on real video sequences show the advantage of our method for multi-object tracking. Also, the method is applied to the intelligent environment and its performance is verified by the experiments.

  • The human centric lighting (HCL) control is a major focus point of the smart lighting system design to provide energy efficient and people mood rhythmic motivation lighting in smart buildings. This paper proposes the HCL control using indoor surveillance camera to improve the human motivation and well-beings in the indoor environments like residential and industrial buildings. In this proposed approach, the indoor surveillance camera video streams are used to predict the day lights and occupancy, occupancy specific emotional features predictions using the advanced computer vision techniques, and this human centric features are transmitted to the smart building light management system. The smart building light management system connected with internet of things (IoT) featured lighting devices and controls the light illumination of the objective human specific lighting devices. The proposed concept experimental model implemented using RGB LED lighting devices connected with IoT features open-source controller in the network along with networked video surveillance solution. The experiment results are verified with custom made automatic lighting control demon application integrated with OpenCV framework based computer vision methods to predict the human centric features and based on the estimated features the lighting illumination level and colors are controlled automatically. The experiment results received from the demon system are analyzed and used for the real-time development of a lighting system control strategy.

  • A kind of Subjective Imaging Effect Assessment (SIEA) method and its applications on intelligent imaging terminal design in engineering site are presented. First, some visual assessment indices are used to characterize the imaging effect: the image brightness, the image brightness uniformity, the color image contrast, the image edge blur, the image color difference, the image saturation, the image noise, and the integrated imaging effect index. A linear weighted function is employed to carry out the SIEA computation and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique is used to estimate its weights. Second, a SIEA software is developed. It can play images after the settings of assessment index or assessment reaction time, etc. Third, two cases are used to illustrate the application effects of proposed method: the image enhancement system design for surveillance camera and the imaging environment perception system design for intelligent lighting terminal. A Prior Sequential Stimulus (PSS) experiment is proposed to improve the evaluation stability of SIEA method. Many experiment results have shown the proposed method can realize a stable system design or parameters setting for the intelligent imaging terminal in engineering site.
