Aging test to estimate life property of polymer insulator is executed through several international standard such as IEC 61109 and CEA tracking wheel test, but is not getting clear conclusion yet. There are two methods in the diagnosis method of polymer insulator such as off-line and on-line. The diagnosis methods in off-line are external condition analysis by the eye, contaminant analysis on surface, surface analysis, pollution withstand voltage test, power frequency flashover voltage test, lightning impulse flashover test, tensile fracture load test and flexural load test. The diagnosis methods in off-line most are the method for virgin and last aged sample. However, the diagnosis method in on-line is method that can be evaluate sample state as progressing continuously aging test in beginning, The diagnosis method in on-line is arranged as following: leakage current measurement, electric field, surface state investigation, thermal image, emitting light measurement and then so. In this paper, the tracking performance of polymer insulator with salt solution which is added surface active agent. The diagnosis of insulator sample has been analyzed by leakage current and visual examination.
Recently, the polymer insulators that are used for high voltage applications have some advantages such as light weight, small size, vandalism resistance, hydrophobicity and easy making process. During outdoor service of polymer insulators, the surface of the insulating material is frequently subjected to moisture and contamination that lead to dry band arcing. Their tracking resistance, erosion resistance, end sealing and shed design are very important because dry band arcing causes degradation of polymer surface. The shape design of porcelain insulator is formalized but design standard for polymer insulator is no standardized up to now, much research is necessary in real condition. In this paper, the surface and tracking properties of polymer suspension insulator for power transmission is investigated with ICP-AES, SEM, EDX, tracking wheel test and flashover voltage test. The diagnosis of insulator sample in tracking test hass been analyzed by leakage current STRI Guide and thermal image.
Our goal is to present a simple volume-of-fluid type interface-tracking algorithm to compressible two-phase flow in two space dimensions. The algorithm uses a uniform underlying Cartesian grid with some cells cut by the tracked interfaces into two subcells. A volume-moving procedure that consists of two basic steps: (1) the update of volume fractions in each grid cell at the end of the time step, and (2) the reconstruction of interfaces from discrete set of volume fractions, is employed to follow the dynamical behavior of the interface motion. As in the previous work with a surface-tracking procedure for general front tracking (LeVeque & Shyue 1995, 1996), a high resolution finite volume method is then applied on the resulting slightly nonuniform grid to update all the cell values, while the stability of the method is maintained by using a large time step wave propagation approach even in the presence of small cells and the use of a time step with respect to the uniform grid cells. A sample preliminary numerical result for an underwater explosion problem is shown to demonstrate the feasibility of the algorithm for practical problems.

PURPOSES : This study focuses on the evaluation of interface performance with varying surface texture and tack coat application in an asphalt overlay. METHODS : The evaluation is carried out in two phases: tracking test and interface bond strength test. Using an image processing tool, tracking test is conducted to evaluate the susceptibility of the tack coat material to produce excessive tracking during application. Using the pull-off test method, the bond strength test is performed to determine the ability of the interface layer to resist failure. RESULTS : Results show that the underseal application yields less tracking compared to other applications. However, the bond strength is barely within the minimum acceptable value. On the other hand, RSC-4 produces higher bond strength for all surface types, but the drying time is long, which produces excessive tracking. CONCLUSIONS : While underseal application may be suitable for a trackless condition, the bond strength is less appealing compared to the rest of the tack applications available. RSC-4 demonstrated a high and consistent bond strength performance, but more time is required for drying to avoid excessive tracking. Tack coat application and surface type combination produce varying results. Therefore, these should be considered when selecting suitable future tack coat application options.
Finite element analysis of fluid flow with moving free surface has been carried out in two and tree dimensions. The new VOF-based numerical algorithm that has been proposed by the present authors was applied to several 2-D and 3-D free surface flow problems. The proposed free surface tracking scheme is based on two numerical tools that have been newly introduced by the present authots; the orientation vector to represent the free surface orientation in each cell and the baby-cell to determine the fluid volume flux at each cell boundary. The proposed numerical algorithm has been applied to 2-D and 3-D cavity filling and sloshing problems, which demonstrated versatility and effectiveness of the new free surface tracking scheme as well as the overall solution procedure. The proposed numerical algorithm resolved successfully the interacting free surface with each other. The simulated results demonstrated the applicability of proposed numerical algorithm to the practical problems of large free surface motion. Also, it has been demonstrated that the proposed free surface tracking scheme can be easily implemented in any irregular non-uniform grid systems and can be extended to the 3-D free surface flow problem without additional efforts.
The sealing technique is widely used for repairing the cracks on the surface of concrete and preventing their expansion in the future. However, it is difficult to ensure the safety of the workers when sealing large structures in inconvenient working environments. This paper presents the development of a sealing robot system to seal various shapes of concrete surface in rough conditions for a long time. If the robot can maintain the desired contact force, the cracks can be completely sealed. An impedance force tracking controller with slope estimator is proposed to calculate the surface slope in real time using the robot position. It predicts the next point in order to prevent the robot from disengaging from the contact surface owing to quick slope changes. The proposed method has been verified by experimental results.
This paper proposes a new sliding-surface-based tracking control system for nonholonomic mobile robots with disturbance. To design a robust controller, we consider the kinematic model and the dynamic model of mobile robots with disturbance. We also propose a new sliding surface to solve the problem of previous study. That is, since the new sliding surface is composed of differentiable functions unlike the previous study, we can obtain the control law for arbitrary trajectories without any constraints. From the Lyapunov stability theory, we prove that the position tracking errors and the heading direction error converge to zero. Finally, we perform the computer simulations to demonstrate the performance of the proposed control system.
In optical disk drives, a conventional control method in the presence of surface defect is holding the previous tracking control command. It is known that the method has a long settling time. This paper proposes a new control method which reduces the settling time. An optical head generally has coupled dynamics between focusing and tracking servo system. We present how to compensate the coupled dynamics so that reduced settling time is achieved. It is verified by experiments that the proposed method brings an improved performance in the presence of surface defect as well as in the normal operating condition.
This paper describes the influence of Ultra-violet irradiation on time to tracking resistance of epoxy insulating materials by use of the inclined plane test. And, the influence of surface degradation was evaluated through several method such as measurement of contact angle, surface roughness, using a scanning electron microscopy. As the 1000 hours of the surface degradation with UV-CON, the flashover time decreases at different rates depending on epoxy resin and silicone rubber specimen. As the duration of the surface degradation with UV-CON is prolonged, the contact angle of epoxy resin decreases at the rate of degradation time, while that of silicone rubber was not exchanged. It is assumed that this phenomenon is related to the decrease in hydrophobicity of the surface of the materials. Also, as to epoxy resin, the decrease of hydrophobicity due to surface degradation with UV-CON is greater than that resulting from surface degradation with WOM. The UV radiation produced chalking and crazing on the surface of the insulating materials specimen.
