히스톤의 변이와 이와 관련된 기능적 측면 (Histone Modifications and It's Relation with Functional Aspects)

  • 크로마틴은 DNA 구조를 다시 결정해주는 것과 같은 존재로 각종 신호에 폭넓게 반응한다. 크로마틴의 중요한 변화는 이러한 조절을 위한 히스톤의 변이이다. 이러한 변화들에 대한 지식이 점점 축적되고 있으며 이러한 반응의 복잡성이 점점 더 명확히 이해되고 있다. 히스톤의 변화가 대부분의 생명체의 반응에 있어서 DNA 의 발현 또는 억제를 통하여 중요한 역할을 한다는 사실이 명확해지고 있다. Nucleosome 의 표면은 각종 변화를 수용할 수 있다. 크로마틴 변화는 크로마틴 수축을 제거하거나 또는 비히스톤 단백질들을 불러 모으는 과정을 통하여 작용될 수 있다. 히스톤 변이를 매개로 하는 이러한 많은 조절들이 유전적으로 보존되어 전달되는 것으로 추측된다. 따라서 히스톤 변이는 동물, 식물 또는 미생물 세계의 기본적인 생물학적 반응과 상당히 밀접한 관계가 있다. 히스톤 변이가 제대로 이루어지지 않을 경우 크로모좀의 응축 또는 이완이 제대로 않되며 결국은 발생, 성숙, 생물체 방어 등 다방면에 대해 기능을 제대로 수행하지 못한다.

반도전성 실리콘 고무의 플라즈마 처리에 따른 표면의 특성변화 (Changes of Surface Properties by Plasma Treatment on the Surface of Semiconductive Silicone Rubber)

  • This paper was investigated the changes of surface properties of high-temperature-vulcanized (HTV) semiconductive silicone rubber due to oxygen plasma discharge. The modifications produced on the silicone rubber surface by oxygen plasma were accessed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS), contact angle and Surface Roughness Tester. The results of the chemical analysis Showed that C-H bonds were broken due to plasma discharge and Silica-like bonds (SiOx, x=$3\~4$) increased. It is thought that the above changes lead to the increase of surface energy of high-temperature-vulcanized (HTV) semiconductive silicone rubber also, Surface roughness was increased with cleavage of side-chains and oxidation process, it confirmed change as the SEM. The micromorphology of surface and hydrophobicity due to plasma discharge based on our results were discussed.

Adsorption Mechanisms of NH3 on Chlorinated Si(100)-2×1 Surface

  • The potential energy surfaces of ammonia molecule adsorptions on the symmetrically chlorinated Si(100)-$2{\times}1$ surface were explored with SIMOMM:MP2/6-31G(d). It was found that the initial nucleophilic attack by ammonia nitrogen to the surface Si forms a $S_N2$ type transition state, which eventually leads to an HCl molecular desorption. The second ammonia molecule adsorption requires much less reaction barrier, which can be rationalized by the surface cooperative effect. In general, it was shown that the surface Si-Cl bonds can be easily subjected to the substitution reactions by ammonia molecules yielding symmetric surface Si-$NH_2$ bonds, which can be a good initial template for subsequent surface chemical modifications. The ammonia adsorptions are in general more facile than the corresponding water adsorption, since ammonia is better nucleophile.

Synchrotron Radiation Induced Photochemical Reactions for Semiconductor Processes

  • Valence or core electron excitations induced by Synchrotron radiation (SR) irradiation and ensuing chemical reactions can be applied for semiconductor processes i, e, deposition etching and modifications of thin film materials. Unique selectivity can be achieved by this photochemical reactions in deposition and etching. Some materials can be ecvaporated by SR irradiation which can be utilized for low temperature surface cleaning of thin films. Also SR irradiation significantly lowers the reaction temperature and photon activated surface reactions can be utilized for direct writing or projection lithography of electronic materials. This technique is especially effective in making nanoscale feature size with abrupt and well defined interfaces for next generation electronic devices.

HSPF-Paddy Development for Simulating Pollutant Loadings from Paddy Fields

  • The Hydrological Simulation Program - FORTRAN (HSPF) was modified to simulate nonpoint pollutant loadings from paddy fields using a field experimental data collected during 2001-2002. The concept of a 'dike height' was added in a modified HSPF code, named HSPF-Paddy, to consider the function of retaining water by a weir at the field outlet. The effect of fertilization on the variances of nutrients on the soil surface and shallow soil layer was described mathematically with a Dirac delta function (or first-order kinetics). As confirmed through model verification, the HSPF-Paddy modifications were shown to represent the function of retaining water, varied ponded water, and surface runoff by forced drain during both rainy and non-rainy seasons and reasonably predicted the water balance and nutrients behavior in paddy fields. It is a distributed watershed model which, with the paddy modifications, can now simulate nonpoint pollutant loadings where paddy fields are dominant, and it can be used to evaluate the effects of paddy fields on the water quality at a basin scale, and assess the impacts of proposed BMPs applied to paddy fields.

부산지역 토지이용(land-use) 변화에 의한 열환경 수치모의 (A Numerical Simulation for Thermal Environments by the Modification of Land-use in Busan)

  • Prognostic meteorological model, MM5V3 (Mesoscale Model 5 Version 3) was used to assess the effects of the land-use modifications on spatial variations of temperature and wind fields in Busan during the selected period of summer season in 2000. We first examined sensitivity analysis for temperature between MM5V3 predictions and meteorological data observed at 4 AWS (Automatic Weather System) stations in Busan, which exhibited low structural and accurate errors (Mean Bias Error, MBE: 0.73, Root Mean Square Error, RMSE: 1.18 on maximum). The second part of this paper, MMSV3 simulations for the modification of land-use was performed with 1 km resolution in target domain, 46$\times$46 $\textrm{km}^2$ area around city of Busan. It was found that modification result from change of surface land-use in central urban area altered spatial distributions of temperature and wind. In particular, heat island core moved slightly to the seaward at 1300 LST. This results may imply that modification of surface land-use leads to change the thermal environments; in addition, it has a significant effect on local wind circulations and dispersions of air pollutants.

개질에 따른 활성탄의 표면특성과 Benzene 증기의 흡착속도 비교 (Comparison of Surface Characteristics and Adsorption Rate of Benzene Vapor According to Modifications of Activated Carbon)

  • The surface properties and adsorption rates of activated carbon modified with acid and base were compared. The distribution ratio of C and C-H on the surface of activated carbon were decreased by modification with acid and base, but the distribution ratio of C-O, C=O, and O=C-O were increased. Base modification damaged the surface of activated carbon more than acid modification, it caused the effect of 6 percent increments of surface area. Adsorption rate model was more suitable to second order equation than first order equation. Adsorption rate was controlled by adsorption in pore better than in surface.

초극세형 폴리프로필렌부직포의 플라즈마를 이용한 표면개질 (Surface Modification of Polypropylene Meltblown(PPMB) Nonwovens by Plasma Treatment)

  • On the purpose of surface modifications of polypropylene meltblown(PPMB) nonwovens, PPMB nonwovens were treated in the plasma system by oxygen atmosphere with different treatment time and discharge power. Dimensional change and physical properties of the treated nonwovens were evaluated. Contact angles onto PPMB nonwovens about water and methyleneiodide were measured and surface energies were calculated by Owen's method. As the results, microcraters were observed on the surface of treated nonwovens. Tenacity and breaking strain of PPMB nonwovens decreased with increasing treatment time and discharge power. Surface energy of PPMB nonwovens increased by plasma treatment. Meanwhile, the friction static voltage and dyeability of PPMB nonwovens have enhanced to some extent by oxygen plasma treatment due to the improvement of surface hydrophilicity.

  • In this paper, the effect of adhesion properties of semiconductive-insulating interface layer of silicone rubber on electrical properties was investigated. The modifications produced on the silicone surface by oxygen plasma were accessed using ATR-FTIR, contact angle and Surface Roughness Tester. Adhesion was obtained from T-peel tests of semiconductive layer haying different treatment durations. In addition, ac breakdown test was carried out for elucidating the change of electrical property with duration of plasma treatment. From the results, the treatment in the oxygen plasma produced a noticeable increase in surface energy, which can be mainly ascribed to the creation of O-H and C=O. It is observed that adhesion performance was determined by surface energy and roughness level of silicone surface. It is found that at dielectric strength was increased with improving the adhesion between the semiconductive and insulating interface.
