The electromagnetic (EM) properties of media, such as propagation, focusing and scattering, strongly rely on the electric permittivity and the magnetic permeability of media. Recently, artificially-created metamaterials (MMs) composed of periodically-arranged unit cells with tailored electric permittivity and magnetic permeability have drawn wide interest due to their capability of adjusting the EM response. MM absorbers using the conventional sandwich structures usually have very high absorption at a certain frequency, and the absorption properties of MMs can be adjusted simply by changing the geometrical parameters of unit cell. In this work, we suggested an incident-angle-independent broadband perfect absorber based on resistive layers. We analyze the absorption mechanism based on the impedance matching with the free space and the distribution of surface currents at specific frequencies. From the simulation, the absorption was expected to be higher than 96% in 1.4-6.0 GHz. The corresponding experimental absorption was found to be higher than 96% in 1.4-4.0 GHz, and the absorption turned out to be slightly lower than 96% in 4.0-6.0 GHz owing to the irregularity in the thickness of resistive layers.

The electrospinnability of pitch was improved by blending in a solution of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) resulting in the reduction of the average fiber diameter from 2000 to 750 nm. Activated carbon fibers (ACFs) derived by stabilization, carbonization and steam activation at 700, 800, and 900 ${^{\circ}C}$ of the PAN/pitch electrospun fibers for 60 min were investigated as electrodes for supercapacitors. The Brunauer, Emmett, Teller (BET) specific surface area ranged from 732 to 1877 $m^2g^{-1}$ and the specific capacitance from 75.5 to 143.5 $Fg^{-1}$, depending on the activation conditions. Electrodes from the electrospun web activated at 900 ${^{\circ}C}$ exhibited a particularly quick response showing a high frequency of 5.5 Hz at a phase angle of ‒$45^o$ of the impedance spectroscopy.

We present a study on the reflection of optically controlled microwave pulses from non uniform plasma layers in semiconductors. The transient response of the microwave pulses in different plasma layers has been evaluated by means of the reflection function of dielectric microstrip lines. The lines were used with an open-ended termination containing an optically induced plasma region, which was illuminated by a light source. The reflection characteristics impedance resulting from the presence of plasma is evaluated by means of the equivalent transmission line model. We have analyzed the variation of the transient response in a 0.01 cm layer with a surface frequency in the region of 128 GHz. In the reflection the variation of the diffusion length $L_D$ is large compared with the absorption depth $1/{\alpha}_l$. The variation of the characteristic response of the plasma layer with differentially localized pulses has been evaluated analytically. The change of the reflection amplitude has been observed at depths of 0.1 cm, 0.01 cm and $0.1{\times}10^{-5}$ cm respectively.
In order to improve capacitance of activated carbon for electric double layer capacitors, peptide bond was induced on the surface of the activated carbon by urea. Urea induced activated carbon has been stabilized through carbonization. Electrochemical characteristics was observed by cyclic voltammetry for specific capacitance, electrochemical impedance spectroscope for measuring resistance and charge-discharge for testing the cyclic ability. In the result, specific capacitance is increased about 22.9% than the activated carbon. And it shows excellent cycle performance and decreasing resistance with the introduction of nitrogen functional groups.

The key advantage of LTCC(low temperature co-fired ceramics) technology is the ability to integrate passive components such as resistors, capacitors, and inductors. More compact circuits with an increased scale of integration are needed with the development for advanced telecommunication system such as IMT-2000. LTCC technology can be obtained by removing these elements from the substrate surface to inside of ceramic body. And it can miniaturize the wireless phone through integration of planar patch antenna, duplexer, band pass filter, bias line, circuit of impedance matching and RF choke etc. Futhermore, with the multilayer chip process and its outstanding electrical material characteristics, LTCC is predestined for highly-integrated, cost effective wide band applications. This paper focuses on the general description of LTCC MCM technologies and the fabrication of the multilayer VCO module.

In this paper, a novel approximate solution for scattering by a very thin planar homogeneous dielectric scatterer with an arbitrary shape is formulated. This solution is based on a volumetric integral equation and is expressed in terms of Fourier transform. It is shown that the obtained solution is reduced to an exact solution for an infinite dielectric slab. For 2D, or 3D scatterers, the formulation is verified numerically. Especially fur edge-on TM polarized wave incidence a closed-form solution of backscattering from a thin dielectric half-plane is formulated, which is very accurate for wide range of normalized surface impedance except very low impedances(│η│〈0.5).
For a rail traffic noise, a typical source has a length of 200m - 400m so that the noise pollution areas have been located in the transition regions where the sound level drops between 3dB/dd and 6dB/dd. Therefore, in this region, parameters such as a horizontal distance from the track, the geometry of the ground surface, the environmental effect, and the boundary impedance condition play import roles, especially in our nation's situation. In this study, modelling techniques for the finite length of noise source have been investigated in order to evaluate the rail traffic noise level. Then. noise correction value .${\Delta}$SPL for various location in the track region is represented by the non-dimensionalized horizontal and parallel distance from the track. As an application, a high speed train is examined. Beas on the noise data measured for a Eurostar in France, the sound power value per unit length $H_1$is calcuated. It turns out that$H_1$is 109 dB. Overall sound power from the highspeed train to be serviced in our country is expected to 135 dBA.

A method of the low-frequency noise reduction in an enclosure by using an array of Helmholtz resonator is presented. An integral form of equation, which represents the acoustical coupling between the internal sound field and the resonator array, is formulated so that the boundary element method can be applied to solve the coupling problem. It is shown that the resonator array on the surface of the enclosure can be regarded as impedance patches on the boundary element. Experiments on a simple enclosure acoustically coupled with an array of resonators are conducted to verify the method. The predicted noise reduction by the boundary element method shows good agreement with the measured one. The effects of the resistance of resonators as well as the number of resonators on the noise reduction are demonstrated. As a practical example, the presented method is applied to the payload fairing of a space launcher with resonator arrays. It is demonstrated that the resistance of resonators affects significantly the required number of resonators to achieve a desired noise reduction.
The corrosion behaviors of 316L stainless steel were investigated in simulated anodic and cathodic environments for proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) by using electrochemical measurement techniques. Interfacial contact resistance(ICR) between the stainless steel and gas diffusion layer(GDL) was also measured. The possibility of 316L was evaluated as a substitute material for the graphite bipolar plate of PEMFC. The value of ICR decreased with an increase in compaction stress(20 N/$cm^2$~220 N/$cm^2$) showing the higher values than the required value in PEMFC condition. Although 316L was spontaneously passivated in simulated cathodic environment, its passive state was unstable in simulated anodic environment. Potentiostatic and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurement results showed that the corrosion resistance in cathodic condition was higher and more stable than that in anodic condition. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and inductively coupled plasma(ICP) were used to analyze the surface morphology and the metal ion concentration in electrolytes.

Porous carbon electrodes with wooden materials are manufactured by molding carbonized wood powder. Electrical properties of the interface for electrolyte and porous carbon electrode are investigated from viewpoint of NaCl electrolyte concentration, capacitance and complex impedance. Density of porous carbon materials is 0.47~0.61 g/$cm^3$. NaCl electrolytic absorptance of the porous carbon materials is 5~30%. As the electrolyte concentration increased, capacitance is increased and electric resistance is decrease with electric double layer effect of the interface. The electric current of the porous carbon electrode compared in the copper and the high density carbon electrode was improved on a large scale, due to a increase in surface area. The circuit current increased as the distance between of the porous carbon electrode and the zinc electrode decreased, due to increase in electric field. Experimental results indicated that the current properties of galvanic cell could be improved by using porous carbon electrode.
