With the shortage of the land and NIMBY syndrome, it is issued recently that the capacity of waste-landfill site is needed though the decreasing tendency of waste landfill. From this point, the stability is the most essential problem in the landfill that will be constructed. Advanced design and construction are most important for that. In this paper, for the study of desiccation, dry-shrinkage crack from drying and chemical reaction in cement hydration, which is occurred when the surface layer stabilization method is applied in wast landfill, laboratory test of the ground and specimen according to the mixture ratio of stabilizer is performed. From the result, it is notified that the uni-axial strength increases with the stabilizer, but dry-shrinkage increases too, therefore, it is important and the goal of this study to find the optimal mixture ratio of each stabilizer. Analysis of variance for regression with acting variables is performed to find optimal mixture ratio of each stabilizer.

The hardening of concrete after setting is accompanied with nonlinear temperature distribution caused by development of hydration heat of cement. Especially at early ages, this nonlinear distribution has a large influence on the tensile cracking. As a result, in order to predict the exact temperature distribution in concrete structures it is required to examine thermal properties of concrete. In this study, the coefficient of air convection for concrete mix of nuclear power plant, which presents thermal transfer between surface of concrete and air, was experimentally investigated with variables such as velocity of wind and types of form. The coefficient of air convection obtained from experiment increases with velocity of wind, and its dependance on wind velocity is varied with types of form. This tendency is due to a combined heat transfer system of conduction through form and convection to air. The coefficient of air convection for concrete mix of nuclear power plant obtained from this study was well agreed with the existing models.

Early age cracking of concrete is a widespread and complicated problem, and diverse applications in practical engineering have focused on this issue. Since massive concrete base slab composes the infrastructure of other concrete structures such as pier, concrete dam, and high rise buildings, early age cracking of that is considered as a crucial problem. In this study, finite element analysis (FEA) implemented with the age-dependent microplane model was performed. For a massive concrete base slab, cracking initiation and propagation, and deformation variation were investigated with concrete age. In massive concrete slab, autogenous shrinkage increases the risk of early age cracking and it reduces reinforcement effect on control of early age cracking. Gradual crack occurrence is experienced from exterior surface towards interior of the slab in case of combined hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage. FEA implemented with enhanced microplane model successfully simulates the typical cracking patterns due to edge restraint in concrete base slab.
The adsorption behavior of 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$-sodium gluconate-$H_2O$ system by measuring adsorp-tion isotherm DTA and IR sepctra. The adsorbed amount of sodium gluconate on 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ is exceedingly larger than 3CaO.$SiO_2$ and portland cement. From the DAT experiment the formation of complex is observed by the characteristic exothermic peak of the complex at 45$0^{\circ}C$ It is now strong deduced that the chemical bonding between gluconate anion and 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ should be coordinative due to the complex formation on the surface 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ from the IR spectra of sod-ium gluconate only and 3CaO.$Al_2O_3$ -sodium gluconate-$H_2O$.

Parameter analysis of mass concrete structures of two types subjected to heat of hydration and surface heat transfer is presented. Thermal stress analysis is conducted through the 3D FEM program. Thermal and mechanical properties of concrete, for example, conductivity, heat capacity, density, thermal expansion coefficient are varied from 80% to 120% of a reference value, and the change of thermal stress against the parameter is achieved respectively. As a result of the analysis, the parameter affecting thermal stress most significantly is an adiabatic temperature rise in the case of wall-type structure, and an initial temperature of concrete in the case of slab-type structure, respectively.

Surplus water inside a concrete other than moisture that is used for hydration of the cement affects the physical properties of the concrete (modulus of elasticity, compressive strength, drying shrinkage, and creep) by drying. Changes in temperature and humidity inside a concrete has correlation with the movement speed and reaction rate of deterioration factors such as carbon dioxide and chloride ions. In this study, comparison was performed between temperature and relative humidity inside the concrete and meteorological data for exposure environment through measurement at the site for two years. Surface temperature of the concrete (depth 1cm) was measured higher by 6℃ during the summers, while it was measured lower by 2℃ during the winters due to solar radiation, wind, and radiation cooling. As for relative humidity, change was large in the depth of 1cm, while more than 85% was maintained in the depth of 10cm.

The fineness degree of Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC henceforth) usually used in Korea's construction sites, is designated as over 2,800㎠/g. But the higher the fineness, the surface area of hydration reaction on water increases as well, resulting in large early age strength and high-intensity; so the trend is to prefer a high degree of fineness. But from a pore-space filling perspective, fine-particled cement is not always beneficial to intensity. Therefore in this study artificial modifications were given to cement fineness to analyze the effect of various fineness changes on the liquidity, air quantity and intensity of lean mixture cement mortar. As a result, the greater the degree of fineness, the better the cement was, with fine particle+OPC having the most satisfactory results due to consecutive particle distribution.
Photopolymerization of 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate(HEMA), in the presence of ethyleneglycol dimethacrylate(EGDMA) and 1-Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone as crosslinker and photoinitiator, respectively, produced crosslinked poly-HEMA hydrogels. The hydrogels were colored by the exhaustion of vinylsul-phone-type reactive dyes. Good colorfastness to laundering was achieved when colored with C.I. Reactive Black 5. We investigated that the effect of coloration on the hydrophilicity and swelling properties of the films. More hydrophilic gel-surfaces were generated with in increase in coloration and crosslinking. Higher surface energy was observed with higher crosslinking level. The more rapid and higher water swellability of poly-HEMA gels after coloration may be resulted from a more opened gel structure by the easier hydration of the hydrophilic sulphonic acid groups of the reacted dyes in water.
Amorphous alumina(AA) the precursor of ${\gamma}$-alumina for catalyst support was made in the newly designed ball filled heating column. Some properties of AA as precursor were investigated. In observation of microstruc-ture and pore structure of AA and its derivatives scanning electronic microscope(SEM) and transmission electronic microscope(TEM) were used. It was found that the width of one particle in AA was 45~60$\AA$ and the average distance among the particles ranged 9~12 $\AA$ which suggested a micropore structure. When AA was reacted with water the shape of the surface was found to be altered and acicular bioehmite was formed inside AA which contributed inproved formability. Pore distribution was evaluated for the three samples of AA ground and granulated lump and La2O3 coated alumina. Acid sites were quantitatively determined by ammonia TPD method and the effect of impurity of Na on acid sites was discussed. Water adsorption capacity was evaluated in terms of a desiccant.

In general, the deterioration induced by the freezing and thawing cyclic in concrete structures often leads to the reduction in concrete durability by the cracking or surface spalling. If it can prediction of concrete deterioration subjected to cyclic freezing and thawing, we can rationally do the design of mix proportion in view of concrete durability and the maintenance management of concrete structures. Therefore in this study a prediction method of deterioration for concrete structures subjected to the irregular freezing and thawing is proposed from the results of accelerated laboratory freezing and thawing test using the constant temperature condition and the in-situ weathering data. Furthermore, to accurately predict the concrete deterioration, a method of modification for the effect of hydration increasing during rapid freezing and thawing test is investigated.
