Background: Immunization of dendritic cells (DCs) pulsed with tumor antigen can activate tumor-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) that are responsible for protection and regression. In this study, we examined whether the uptake of necrotic tumor cells could modulate DC phenotypes and whether the immunization of necrotic tumor cell-loaded DCs could elicit efficient tumor specific immune responses followed by a regression of established tumor burdens. Methods: We prepared necrotic tumor cell-pulsed DCs for the therapeutic vaccination and investigated their phenotypic characteristics, the immune responses induced by these DCs, and therapeutic vaccine efficacy against colon carcinoma in vivo. Several parameters including phagocytosis of tumor cells, surface antigen expression, chemokine receptor expression, IL-12 production, and NK as well as CTL activation were assessed to characterize the immune response. Results: DCs derived from mouse bone marrow efficiently phagocytosed necrotic tumor cells and after the uptake, they produced remarkably increased levels of IL-12. A decreased CCR1 and increased CCR7 expression on DCs was also observed after the tumor uptake, suggesting that antigen uptake could induce DC maturation. Furthermore, co-culturing of DCs with NK cells in vitro enhanced IL-12 production in DCs and IFN-${\gamma}$ production in NK cells, which was significantly dependent on IL-12 production and cell-to-cell contact. Immunization of necrotic tumor cell-loaded DCs induced cytotoxic T lymphocytes as well as NK activation, and protected mice against subsequent tumor challenge. In addition, intratumoral or contra-lateral immunization of these DCs not only inhibited the growth of established tumors, but also eradicated tumors in more than 60% of tumor-bearing mice. Conclusion: Our data indicate that production of IL-12, chemokine receptor expression and NK as well as CTL activation may serve as major parameters in assessing the effect of tumor cell-pulsed DC vaccine. Therefore, DCs loaded with necrotic tumor cells offer a rational strategy to treat tumors and eventually lead to prolonged survival.
The effects of zinc chloride addition on pore development of porous carbon nanofibers prepared by polyacrylonitrile (PAN)/ N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) (10 wt%) electrospinning were investigated. The change of morphological and structural modification by zinc chloride activation was investigated by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. $N_2$ adsorption isotherm characteristics at 77 K were confirmed by Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and Horvath-Kawazoe (H-K) equations, and the curves showed the Type I mode in the International Union of Pore and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC) classification, indicating that lots of micropores exist in the sample. In addition, specific surface areas and total pore volumes of porous carbons prepared by the zinc chloride activation were determined as 600~980 $m^2/g$ and 0.24~0.40 $cm^3/g$, respectively. As experimental results, many holes or demolished structures were found on the fiber surfaces after the zinc chloride activation as confirmed by a SEM analysis. It was also observed that various pore sizes were found to be depended on the adding content of zinc chloride in PAN/DMF solution in this system.

PURPOSE: This study investigated the effects of lower limb and trunk muscles activation on seat angle and height during sit to stand and stand to sit. METHODS: Subjects were instructed to sit and stand on different angles and heights; $0^{\circ}$(43cm), $5^{\circ}$(48cm), $10^{\circ}$(51cm) and $15^{\circ}$(58cm). Measurements were conducted from sit to stand and stand to sit for external oblique, transversus abdominis, rectus femoris, vastus medialis, vastus lateralis, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius muscle activation by surface EMG. The muscle activation was measured three times for five seconds in each posture, and the %RVC value was calculated after the exclusion of one second before and after this measurement. This calculation standardized the data from each participant so it could be comparatively analyzed. RESULTS: The external oblique, tibialis anterior, and erector spinae muscles showed significant difference in $10^{\circ}$(51cm), $15^{\circ}$(58cm) and $0^{\circ}$(43cm), rectus femoris, in $15^{\circ}$(58cm) and $0^{\circ}$(43cm)(p<.05) during sit to stand. The external oblique, tibialis anterior, and rectus femoris muscles showed significant difference in $0^{\circ}$(43cm) and $15^{\circ}$(58cm), erector spinae and vastus medialis muscles showed significant difference in $10^{\circ}$(51cm), $15^{\circ}$(58cm) and $0^{\circ}$(43cm)(P<.05) during stand to sit. CONCLUSION: The present study findings indicate that the toilet seat angle and height could affect muscle activities of the lower limb and trunk.

Porous carbon nanofibers were prepared as a gas sensor electrode to study the $CO_2$ sensing property based on effects of porosity and introduced amine functional groups. Electrospun fibers were obtained by using electrospinning method with polyacrylonitrile precursor and they were treated by the thermal treatment and chemical activation. Amine functional groups were introduced by the liquid state treatment using diethylenetriamine. The specific surface area increased up to $2000m^2/g$ by the chemical activation. The Introduced amine functional group was identified using FT-IR spectroscopy. $CO_2$ gas sensing property was improved as four folds via introduced amine functional groups on the activated carbon nanofiber. In conclusion, the gas sensing property was improved based on the developed porosity by the chemical activation and the chemical attraction of $CO_2$ gas by introduced functional groups.
The pelvic compression belt (PCB) contributes to improving sacroiliac joint stability, and it has been used as an additional therapeutic option for patients with sacroiliac joint pain (SIJP). This study aimed to investigate whether the muscle activation patterns of the supporting leg was different between asymptomatic subjects and subjects with SIJP during one-leg standing, and how it changes with the PCB. 15 subjects with SIJP and 10 asymptomatic subjects volunteered to participate in this study. Surface electromyography (EMG) data (reaction time [RT] and muscle activation) were collected from the internal oblique, lumbar multifidius, gluteus maximus and biceps femoris muscles during one-leg standing with and without the PCB. Without the PCB condition, in the SIJP group, the biceps femoris muscle showed the fastest RT among all muscles (p<.05), whereas in the asymptomatic group, the RT of the internal oblique muscle was the most rapid (p<.05). In condition without the PCB, the biceps femoris EMG amplitudes in the SIJP group were significantly greater than that in the asymptomatic group (p<.05). After the application of the PCB, the RT of the biceps femoris muscle was significantly increased only in the SIJP group (p<.05). Moreover, the biceps femoris EMG amplitudes significantly decreased and the gluteus maximus EMG amplitudes significant increased only in the SIJP group by applying the PCB (p<.05). However, this had no such effect on the gluteus maximus and biceps femoris EMG patterns in the asymptomatic group (p>.05). Thus, this study supports the applying the PCB to patients with SIJP can be used as a helpful option to modify the activation patterns of the gluteus maximus and biceps femoris muscle.
A series of micro- and mesoporous activated carbons were prepared from phenolic resin using a metal treated chemical activation methodology. $N_2$-adsorption data were used to characterize the surface properties of the produced activated carbons. Results of the surface properties and pore distribution analysis showed that phenolic resin can be successfully converted to micro- and mesoporous activated carbons with specific surface areas higher than $962.3m^2/g$. Activated carbons with porous structure were produced by controlling the amount of metal chlorides($CdCl_2$, $CuCl_2$). Pore evolvement was shown to be most effected by the incremental addition of metal chloride. From the thermodynamic DSC data, enthalpy formations(${\Delta}H$) of first endothermic reaction were increase with the incremental addition of metal chloride.
This paper investigated the conduction path and conduction mechanism in undoped polycrystalline diamond thin films deposited by microwave chemical vapor deposition. The resistances measured by ac impedance spectroscopy with different directions can not be explained by the previously-known surface conduction model. The electrodeposition of Cu and electroetching of Ag experiments showed that the conduction path is the grain boundaries within the diamond films. The electodeposition of Cu with an insulating surface layer further proved that the main conduction path in polycrystalline films in the grain boundaries. The film with high electrical conductivity has low activation energy of 45meV and higher dangling bond density. By considering the results and surface C chemical bonds, the H-C-C-H bonds at surface and in grain boundaries might be the origin of high conductivity in undoped diamond films.

After $MoS_2$ catalyst was prepared at 1, 30, and 70 atm, the hydrothermal pressure effect over preparation of $MoS_2$ was investigated in terms of catalyst characterization and direct methanation. Multifaceted characterization techniques such as XRD, BET, SEM, TPR, EDS, and XPS were used to analyze and investigate the effect of high pressure over the preparation of surface and bulk $MoS_2$ catalyst. Result from XRD, SEM, and BET demonstrated that $MoS_2$ was more dispersed as preparation pressure was increased, which resulted finer $MoS_2$ crystal size and higher surface area. EDS result confirmed that bulk composition was $MoS_2$ and XPS result showed that S/Mo mole ratio of surface was about 1.3. TPR showed that $MoS_2$ prepared at 30 atm possessed higher active surface sites than $MoS_2$ prepared at 1 atm and these sites could contribute to higher CO yield during methanation. Direct methanation was used to evaluate the CO conversion of the both catalysts prepared at 1 atm and 30 atm and reaction condition was at feed mole ratio of $H_2/CO=1$, GHSV=4800, 30 atm, temperature($^{\circ}C$) of 300, 350, 400, and 450. $MoS_2$ prepared at 30 atm showed more stable and higher CO conversion than $MoS_2$ prepared at 1 atm. Faster deactivation was occurred over $MoS_2$ prepared at 1 atm, which indicated that preparation pressure of $MoS_2$ catalyst was the dominant factor to improve the yield of direct methanation.
The regional bio-wastes available in abundance in India were converted into porous carbon by heat treatment at different temperatures from $650-950^{\circ}C$. The wood retain shapes after pyrolysis though shrinkage occured both in axial and radial directions. The shrinkage in radial direction was found to be more than in axial direction in all woods. The density of woods and chars from these at a given temperature has been found to follow linear relationship. Chars were steam activated at temperature $700-800^{\circ}C$ for different times between 45-240 min. Both the temperature and time of activation with steam has a profound effect on surface area. Chars from softwoods like bagasse and castor oil plant were activated at lower temperature, i.e. $700-750^{\circ}C$ whereas hard wood chars have to be activated at higher temperature around $800^{\circ}C$. The morphology of wood as well as of chars has been studied by SEM. The comparison of the two showed that the nature of porosity in chars depends on precursor morphology, nature and physical state of wood and presence of inorganic compounds in the wood. Hard wood results in cross inter connected pores while softwood leads to fibriller structure. The present studies show that activated carbon with reasonably good surface area (${\sim}1000m^2/gm$) can be prepared from soft wood bio-wastes like bagasse and castor oil plant, while surface area ${\sim}1370m^2/gm$ was achieved from hard wood bio waste of pine wood.

Both MgO and $Sc_2O_3$ are shown to provide low interface state densities (in the $10^{11}{\;}eV^{-1}{\;}cm{\;}^{-2}$ range)on n-and p-GaN, making them useful for gate dielectrics for metal-oxide semiconductor(MOS) devices and also as surface passivation layers to mitigate current collapse in GaN/AlGaN high electron mobility transistors(HEMTs).Clear evidence of inversion has been demonstrated in gate-controlled MOS p-GaN diodes using both types of oxide. Charge pumping measurements on diodes undergoing a high temperature implant activation anneal show a total surface state density of $~3{\;}{\times}{\;}10^{12}{\;}cm^{-2}$. On HEMT structures, both oxides provide effective passivation of surface states and these devices show improved output power. The MgO/GaN structures are also found to be quite radiation-resistant, making them attractive for satellite and terrestrial communication systems requiring a high tolerance to high energy(40MeV) protons.
