The fabrications condition and superconducting properties of top-seeded melt growth (TSMG) processed $GdBa_2Cu_3O_{7-y}$ (Gd123) bulk superconductors were studied. Processing parameters (a maximum temperature ($T_{max}$), a temperature for crystal growth ($T_G$) and a cooling rate ($R_G$) through a peritectic temperature ($T_P$) for the fabrication of single grain Gd123 superconductors were optimized. The magnetic levitation forces, trapped magnetic fields, superconducting transition temperature ($T_c$) and critical current density ($J_c$) of the Gd123 bulks superconductors were estimated. Single grain Gd123 bulk superconductors were successfully fabricated at the optimized processing condition. The $T_c$ of a TSMG processed Gd123 sample was 92.5 K and the $J_c$ at 77 K and 0 T was approximately $50kA/cm^2$. The trapped magnetic field contour and magnetic levitation forces were dependent on the top surface morphology of TSMG processed Gd123 samples. The single grain Gd123 samples, field-cooled at 77 K using a Nd-B-Fe permanent magnet with 5.27 kG and 30 mm dia., showed the trapped magnetic field contour of a single grain with a maximum of 4 kG at the sample center. The maximum magnetic levitation forces of the single grain Gd123 sample, field-cooled or zero field-cooled, were 40 N and 107 N, respectively.
We investigated the effects of the irradiation of light-ions on the superconducting $MgB_2$ thin films fabricated by using HPCVD. Deuterium and helium ions were irradiated on $MgB_2$ thin films by various doses, from $1{\times}10^{10}cm^{-2}\;to\;8{\times}10^{15}cm^{-2}$. During these experiments some reasonable results and unpredictable results have been obtained. The reasonable results are that the peak of the reduced maximum pinning force shifts by increasing the pinning sites in $MgB_2$ films and the slightly change of critical current density of films. We obtained some unusual results, which are the increasing of the transition temperature and the change of residual resistance ratio. Among the data of deuterium and helium ion irradiation experiments, the results of helium ion irradiation have most notable points so we will discuss mainly about helium irradiation experiments.
We have studied fabrication of $MgB_2$ thin film on $SrTiO_3$ (001) and r-cut $A1_2$$O_3$ substrates by rf magnetron sputtering method using and $ MgB_2$ single target and two targets of Mg and B, respectively. Based on P -T phase diagram of $MgB_2$ and vapor pressure curves of Mg and B, a three-step process was employed. B layer was deposited at the bottom to enhance the film adhesion to the substrate. Secondly, co-sputtering of Mg and B was done. Finally, Mg was sputtered on top to compensate fur the loss of Mg during annealing. Subsequently, $MgB_2$ films were in-situ annealed in various conditions. The sample fabricated using the three-step process showed $T_{c}$ of 24 K and formation of superconducting $MgB_2$ phase was confirmed by XRD spectra. In case of co-sputtering deposition, $T_{c}$ depended on annealing time and argon pressure. However, those made by single-target sputtering showed non-superconducting behavior or low transition temperature, at best.est.

ZnO nanotips, grown on c-$Al_2O_3$ and quartz, were implanted variously with 200 keV Fe or Mn ions to a dose level of $5{\times}10^{16}cm^{-2}$. The magnetic properties of these samples were measured using a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer. Fe-implanted ZnO nanotips grown on c-$Al_2O_3$ showed a coercive field width of 209 Oe and a remanent field of 12% of the saturation magnetization ($2.3{\times}10^{-5}emu$) at 300K for a sample annealed at $700^{\circ}C$ for 20 minutes. The field-cooled and the zero-field-cooled magnetization measurements also showed evidence of ferromagnetism in this sample with an estimated Curie temperature of around 350 K. The Mn-implanted ZnO nanotips grown on c-$Al_2O_3$ showed superparamagnetism resulting from the dominance of a spin-glass phase. The ZnO nanotips grown on quartz and implanted with Fe or Mn showed signs of ferromagnetism, but neither was consistent.
We have fabricated good quality superconducting $YBa_{2}Cu_{3}O_{7-\delta}$ thin films on Hastelloy(Ni-Cr-Mo alloys) metallic substrate with $CeO_2$ and $BaTiO_3$ buffer layers in-situ by pulsed laser deposition in a multi-target processing chamber. We have chosen $CeO_2$ as a buffer layer which has cubic structure of $5.41{\AA}$ lattice parameter and only 0.2% of lattice mismatch with YBCO. $CeO_2$ layer may be helpful for power transmission due to its conducting property. In order to enhance the crystallization of YBCO films on metallic substrates. we deposited $CeO_2$ and $BaTiO_3$ buffer layers at various temperatures. The YBCO superconducting tape fabricated with $BaTiO_3$ and $CeO_2$ buffer layers shows 85K of transition temperature and about $8.4{\times}10^4A/cm^2$ of critical current density at 77K.

We have measured the temperature dependence of thermoelectric power (TEP) and resistivity for the Sr$_{1-x}K_xBiO_3$ superconductor (x=0.45-0.6). At T=10.2K, the resisitivity starts to increase from zero and a rather broad superconducting phase transition (${\Delta}$T ${\sim}$ 2.3K) is observed. TEP at room temperature has a small negative value ( S =-1.96${\mu}$V/K), characteristic of metallic-like TEP. The temperature dependence of TEP shows two distinct features. With decreasing temperature from room temperature, the absolute value of TEP decreases and the sign of TEP changes from negative to positive around 200k. Also, the negative slope of TEP(dS/dT) decreases substantially and becomes rather flat at around 160k, which is a feature already noted in Ba$_{1-x}K_xBiO_3$[1].

Mechanical alloying (MA) by high energy ball mill of pure copper and niobium powders was carried out under the Ar gas atmosphere. The supersaturated solid solution can be produced in the range up to $Cu_xNb_{100-x}$(x=5-30) by MA for 120 hrs, as demonstrated by X-ray diffraction, DSC analysis and the electronic studies through a change in the superconducting transition in the low-temperature specific heat. The $Cu_{30}Nb_{70}$ samples ball-milled for 120 hrs exhibit only a broad exothermic heat release. The total energy, ${\Delta}H_t$ accumulated during MA far the mixture of $Cu_{30}Nb_{70}$ powders increased with milling time and approached the saturation value of 7.5 kJ/mol after 120 h of milling. It can be seen that the free energy difference between the supersaturated solid solution and the mixture of $Cu_{30}Nb_{70}$ powders is estimated to be 7 kJ/mol by Miedema et al. Hence it is thermodynamically possible to assume the formation of a supersaturated solid solution phase in this system.
The melting temperature and critical temperature (Tc) of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ with deferent content impurities of PbO and $BaPbO_3$ were studied. When the PbO was used as addition in $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$, although the melting point could be reduced, the superconductivity (the transition wide, ${\Delta}T_c$) became poor. From the XRD pattern of the sintered mixture of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ and PbO it was known that there is a reaction between $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ and PbO, and the product is $BaPbO_3$. In the process of the reaction the superconducting phase of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ was decreased and in the sample $BaPbO_3$ became the main phase. Therefore the superconductivity was reduced. $BaPbO_3$ was chosen as the impurity for the comparative study. The single phase $BaPbO_3$ was synthesized by the simple way from both mixtures of $BaCO_3$ and PbO, $BaCO_3$ and $PbO_2$. Deferent contents of $BaPbO_3$ (10%, 20%, 30%) were added in the $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$. By the phase analysis in the XRD patterns it was proved that there were not reactions between $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ and $BaPbO_3$. When $BaPbO_3$ was used as impurity in $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ the superconductivity was much better than PbO as impurity in $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$. But the melting point of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ with $BaPbO_3$ could not be found when the temperature was lower than $1000^{\circ}C$ in the DTA measurement.
Bi-2223/Ag tapes need to be safe, even it is under the over-critical current state for the protection of a superconducting power machine. However, it is not easy to identify the condition for the safe operation because of their broad S/N transition region. In this paper, for the study of the operation condition of Bi-2223/ Ag tapes, we investigated the V-I curves and the temperature variation of Bi-2223/ Ag tapes experimentally, applying alternating over-currents, and analyzed the relationship between resistance and temperature increase. For the experiments, a Bi-2223/Ag tape of 57 A $I_c$ was prepared, and the over-critical current characteristics under adiabatic state from $LN_2$ was measured. From the experiments, we confirmed that the Joule heating predicted by V-I curve corresponded with the increase of the measured temperature exactly. Using the results, a safe operation condition of Bi-2223 tape was discussed.
We have fabricated $MgB_2$thin films on (1 1 02)$ A1_2$$O_3$substrates by using a two-step method. Amorphous B thin films were deposited by a pulsed laser deposition technique and sintered in Mg vapor at various temperatures from 800 to $950^{\circ}C$. Superconducting properties of the thin films were investigated by temperature dependences of magnetization and critical current density. Structural studies were carried out by an x-ray diffraction and a scanning electron microscope. The films fabricated at $900^{\circ}C$ showed the highest transition temperature of 39 K and critical current density of ~$10^{7}$ A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ at 15 K.
