In this paper, the high-order spectral/boundary-element method is developed to calculate the 3-dimensional water waves generated by a submerged body. This method is one of the most efficient numerical methods by which the nonlinear gravity waves can be simulated Tn time-domain. Three-dimensional free-surface flows generated by a submerged sphere which is moving under the free-surface are calculated. Through example calculations, nonlinear effects on free-surface profiles and hydrodynamic forces are shown. Comparisons with others' results show good agreements.
There are many studies about submerged structures or porous wave absorbers to decrease damage of coast and structures. Submerged structures and porous wave absorber are decreasing energy of incoming wave by reflecting or dissipation with changing depth or with porous rubble mound. This study addresses the reflection and transmission of long wave from a trapezoidal breakwater and a vertical porous wave absorber at the same time. A systematic shape transfer is derived to determine wave reflection and transmission. And periodic solutions are matched at the slope and the front face of the absorber by assuming continuity of pressure and mass. The transmission coefficient is determined as a function of parameters describing the incoming waves, transmitting waves through the trapezoidal breakwater and the absorber characteristics.

This paper presents a Modified Adaptive Complementary Sliding Mode Control (MACSMC) system for the longitudinal motion control of the Fully-Submerged Hydrofoil Craft (FSHC) in the presence of time varying disturbance and uncertain perturbations. The nonlinear disturbance observer is designed with less conservatism that only boundedness of the derivative of the disturbance is required. Then, a complementary sliding mode control system combined with adaptive law is designed to reduce the bound of stabilization error with fast convergence. In particularly, the modified complementary sliding mode surface which contains the estimation of the disturbance can reduce the switching gain and retain the normal performance of the system. Moreover, a hyperbolic tangent function contained in the control law is utilized to attenuate the chattering of the actuator. The global asymptotic stability of the closed-loop system is demonstrated utilizing the Lyapunov stability theory. Ultimately, the simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
This paper describes parameter identification techniques formulated for the estimation of maneuvering coefficients of a submerged body. The first part of this paper is concerned with the identifiability of the system parameters. The relationship between a stochastic linear time-invariant system and the equivalent dynamic system is investigated. The second is concerned with the development of the numerically stable identification technique. Two identification techniques are tested; one is the ma7mum likelihood (ML) methods using the Holder & Mead simplex search method and using the modified Newton-Raphson method, and the other is the modified extended Kalman filter (MEKF) method with a square-root algorithm, which can improve the numerical accuracy of the extended Kalman filter. As a results, it is said that the equations of motion for a submerged body have higher probability to generate simultaneous drift phenomenon compared to general state equations and only the ML method using the Holder & Mead simplex search method and the MEKF method with a square-root algorithm gives acceptable results.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the hydraulic retention time (HRT) and organic loading rate (OLR) on microbial characteristics and treatment efficiency in sewage treatment using aerated submerged biological filter (ASBF) reactor. This reactor combines biodegradation of organic substrates by fixed biomass with a physical separation of biomass by filtration in a single reactor. Both simulated wastewater and domestic wastewater were used as feed solutions. The experimental conditions were a temperature of 17 to $27^{\circ}C$, a hydraulic retention time of 1 to 9hr, an organic loading rate of 0.47 to $3.84kg\;BOD/m^3{\cdot}day$ in ASBF reactor. This equipment could obtain a stable effluent quality in spite of high variation of influent loading rate. Total biomass concentration. biofilm thickness and biofilm mass increased an exponential function according to the increasing OLR. The relationships between water content and biofilm density were in inverse proportion. The percentage of backwash water to influent flow was almost 9%. The separation efficiency of biomass was the percentage of 91 to 92 in ASBF reactor. The sludge production rates in feed solutions of simulated wastewater and domestic wastewater were 0.14~0.26 kg VSS/kg BODrem, 0.43~0.48 kg VSS/kg BODrem, respectively.
The aeration provided in a Submerged Membrane Bioreactor (SMBR) improves membrane filtration by creating turbulence on the membrane surface and reducing membrane resistance. However, conventional hollow fiber membrane modules are generally packed in a vertical orientation which limits membrane scouring efficiency, especially when aeration is provided in the axial direction. In the present research, 3 innovative hollow-fiber membrane modules, each with a different membrane orientation, were developed to improve membrane scouring efficiency and enhance permeate flux. Pilot testing was performed to investigate the permeate flux versus time relationship over a 7-day period under different intermittent modes. The results indicated that the best module experienced an overall permeate flux decline of 3.3% after 7 days; the other two modules declined by 13.3% and 18.3%. The lower percentage of permeate flux decline indicated that permeate productivity could be sustained for a longer period of time. As a result, the operational costs associated with membrane cleaning and membrane replacement could be reduced over the lifespan of the module.

A high-order spectral/boundary-element method is newly adapted as an efficient numerical tool. In this method, the velocity potential is expressed as the sum of surface potential and body potential. Then, surface potential is solved fly using the high-order spectral method and body potential is solved fly using the high-order boundary element method. Through the combination of these two methods, the wave-making problems fly a submerged sphere moving with the large amplitude oscillation are solved in time-domain. With the example calculations, nonlinear effects on free-surface profiles and hydrodynamic forces are shown and discussed.
A pot and laboratory experiments were conducted to find out the effects of pretreatments of rice straw and silica fertilizer in submerged and upland soil condition on the evolution of nitrous oxide with different application time. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. Evolution of nitrous oxide was remarkably increased with pretreatment of rice straw and silica in upland condition than that of submerged condition. 2. Effects of application time of rice straw and silica fertilizer on the evolution of nitrous oxide were high in order of two weeks before transplant > early spring (February) > late autumn (November) application. 3. The consumption ratio of carbon for the evolution of one mole nitrogen was pronounced more in submerged condition than that of pretreated in upland condition. Application of rice straw with silica fertilizer was remarkably reduced the consumpotion of carbon on the denitrification path way. 4. Amount of mineral nitrogen as $NH_4^+-N$, $NO_2^--N$, and $NO_3^--N$, and nitrification rate were remarkably high in pretreatment of rice straw and silica in upland condition than that of contineusly submerged soil condition.

As the 2-D hydraulic experimental results for the submerged rubble-mound structure, we have concerned with their stability/function characteristics of structures by the effects of wave force, scour/deposition at the toe and wave transmission ratio at the lee-side sea. And as to investigate the variation characteristics of wave transmission ratio which depended to a geometrical structure of the submerged breakwater profiles, the critical conditions for the depth of submergence and crest width obviously presented. In summary, there results lead us to the conclusions that the wave control capabilities of submerged breakwaters by the variation of the submergence depth is high about 4 time degrees at the efficiency than the that of crest width. The destruction of covering block at the crest generated at the region which located between maximum damage curve, it maximum damage/failure station from the toe of the structure were 0.2L. As the wave transmission coefficient and the slope of the structure increase, the damage/failure ratio and the maximum scour depth at the toe was extended, respectively. When maximum scour depth happened. The destruction of covering block which located at the toe generated at the front slope destruction. Finally, it was found from the results that the optimization of structure may be obtained by the efficiently decision of the submergence depth and crest width in the permissible range of wave transmission ratio.

The coastal zone is a delicate and dynamic area in which the majority of a water kinetic energy is dissipated. These processes are subsequent to the transport of the beach materials. In comparison to emerged breakwaters, submerged structures permit the passage of some wave energy and in turn allow for circulation along the shoreline zone. This research aims to examine the beach erosion prevention capability of submerged structure by laboratory model. The flow characteristics behind a submerged obstacle with bottom gap were experimentally investigated at Re = $1.2{\times}10^4$ using the two-frame PIV(CACTUS 2000) system. Streamline curvature field behind the obstacle has been obtained by using the data of time-averaged mean velocity information. And the large eddy structure in the separated shear layer seems to have signification influence on the development of the separated shear layer. As bottom gap size increases, the recirculation occurring behind the obstacle moves toward downstream and its strength is weakened.
