  • Modality is the psychological attitude of the speaker, which is comprised by the sentences used in every language. Modality can be broadly categorized as perceptional modality and obligatory modality. This study summarizes the previous related literatures and theoretical branches of Korean linguistic studies. The study also proposes and classifies a modal concept on the Korean language, which is aimed at aiding Chinese people who are studying Korean. It further describes characteristics and expressions of modality in both the Chinese and Korean languages. This study aims to develop an effective teaching-learning program on the basis of the contrastive analysis between Korean language's modality, "-(으)ㄹ 수 있다," and the corresponding Chinese auxiliary verb, "能." Modality is a syntax item that reflects a speaker's subjective manner. There are many grammatical facets in Korean language books and teaching materials that are modal in nature. Further, modalities in Korean language are not only numerous but also have very rich meanings and functions. Based on the contrastive analysis, this study designs an effective teaching plan for Chinese people learning the Korean language. The designed system uses specific conversational occasions as the basis of learning, and it adapts the Korean language's modal system to classroom teaching. The system is expected to be effective during classroom teaching for demonstrating and learning modality in the Korean language.

  • The analysis of beauty major students' acceptance intentions for digital new technologies revealed that subjective norms and self-efficacy significantly impact ease of use as mediating variables, and willingness to innovate and self-efficacy significantly impact usefulness as mediating variables. However, willingness to innovate did not significantly impact ease of use, and subjective norms did not significantly impact usefulness. Ease of use and usefulness significantly impacted acceptance attitude, and acceptance attitude significantly impacted acceptance intention. These results suggest that while beauty major students recognize the positive necessity of new technology application in the beauty field, they may feel somewhat burdened by learning and utilizing new technologies. Learners' fear of applying new technologies could result in a reluctance to take courses necessary for understanding and acquiring digital new technologies. To address this, it is necessary to analyze the basic knowledge level of digital technology among beauty major students and develop lower-level related courses and programs to help them easily understand digital new technologies.

  • Recently, many deep convolutional neural networks for image super-resolution have been studied. Existing deep learning-based super-resolution algorithms are architecture that up-samples the resolution at the end of the network. The post-upsampling architecture has an inefficient structure at large scaling factor result of predicting a lot of information for mapping from low-resolution to high-resolution at once. In this paper, we propose a single image super-resolution using Channel Attention Residual Dense Block based on an iterative up-down sampling architecture. The proposed algorithm efficiently predicts the mapping relationship between low-resolution and high-resolution, and shows up to 0.14dB performance improvement and enhanced subjective image quality compared to the existing algorithm at large scaling factor result.

  • In this paper, we propose a new relevance feedback algorithm using Probabilistic Neural Networks(PNN) while supporting multi-class learning. Then, to validate the effectiveness of our feedback approach, we incorporate the proposed algorithm into our region-based image retrieval tool, FRIP(Finding Regions In the Pictures). In our feedback approach, there is no need to assume that feature vectors are independent, and as well as it allows the system to insert additional classes for detail classification. In addition, it does not have a long computation time for training because it only has four layers. In the PNN classification process, we store the user's entire past feedback actions as a history in order to improve performance for future iterations. By using a history, our approach can capture the user's subjective intension more precisely and prevent retrieval performance errors which originate from fluctuating or degrading in the next iteration. The efficacy of our method is validated using a set of 3000 images derived from a Corel-photo CD.

  • Decision tree induction is a kind of useful machine learning approach for extracting classification rules from a set of feature-based examples. According to the partitioning style of the feature space, decision trees are categorized into univariate decision trees and multivariate decision trees. Due to observation error, uncertainty, subjective judgment, and so on, real-world data are prone to contain some errors in their feature values. For the purpose of making decision trees robust against such errors, there have been various trials to incorporate fuzzy techniques into decision tree construction. Several researches hove been done on incorporating fuzzy techniques into univariate decision trees. However, for multivariate decision trees, few research has been done in the line of such study. This paper proposes a fuzzy decision tree induction method that builds fuzzy multivariate decision trees named fuzzy oblique decision trees, To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, it also presents some experimental results.

  • The fuzzy set theory has been wide used in clustering of machine learning with data mining since fuzzy theory has been introduced in 1960s. In particular, fuzzy C-means algorithm is a popular fuzzy clustering algorithm up to date. An element is assigned to any cluster with each membership value using fuzzy C-means algorithm. This algorithm is affected from the location of initial cluster center and the proper cluster size like a general clustering algorithm as K-means algorithm. This setting up for initial clustering is subjective. So, we get improper results according to circumstances. In this paper, we propose a cluster merging using enhanced density based fuzzy C-means clustering algorithm for solving this problem. Our algorithm determines initial cluster size and center using the properties of training data. Proposed algorithm uses grid for deciding initial cluster center and size. For experiments, objective machine learning data are used for performance comparison between our algorithm and others.

  • This study is to examine how common science, which was selected as a required subject in high schools with the reorganization of the 6th national science curriculum by the Ministry of Education, is taught in high schools these days. The results show that only one teacher is teaching common science in 3.2% of schools or the teachers divide and teach units according to their majors. In this situation, there are many problems because there are too many integrated contents in each unit and they are too short to solve the study subject during the unit time of 50 minutes. Another problem is that there is no special laboratory for common science. For the knowledge part of common science, lecture-learning is used as a method of teaching and for the inquiry part, inquiry-learning is used. Evaluation is conducted using subjective or objective paper-tests for the knowledge part, and reports are used for evaluation in the inquiry part. Therefore, this study shows that students' response to common science is below the general level and this subject missed the original intent introduced to raise students' interests about science.
