Distance Learning for Interior Design: Strategies and Instructional Model (실내디자인 교육.실무에 있어서의 가상 교육 운영 전략 및 모형 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to develope instructional strategies and assessment model for distance learning in interior design education in Korea. Literature from various sources were examined to provide guidelines for instructional and technical strategies, communication system, and administrative process. Strategies and assessment model for transition to distance learning from goal setting to program evaluation were introduced. The results of this study indicated that distance learning in interior design education is optimized when applied in studio critique, portfolio production, and professional practice and with other traditional programs depending on the characteristics of the instructional materials. It is suggested for further studies that various distance learning programs based on instructional theories to be conducted and evaluated in different areas of interior design education for their maximum application as instructional tool.

  • Lucie Rie as an individual ceramist in terms of contemporary meaning was influenced by early 20th century's academic education and the ideology of modern formative arts. Modernity in her ceramic works has had a dramatic exert on numerous potters. Also, she is highly required to be studied in the history of modern pottery as a potter who took the initiative of studio pottery by the individual artistic handicraft. This paper considered an analysis of characteristics and techniques of 20C Modernistic ceramist Lucie Rie's works and activities. The body of this research investigated classification by chronicles and stylistic characteristics of her activity in the background of early 20th century European Modernism which influenced her formative arts. In addition, this article attempted to build up more specific comprehension on Lucie Rie's works and production process through an analysis of her techniques and artistic know-how..

The current situation and development strategies of the Fashion Creative Studios in Korea (국내 패션창작스튜디오의 현황과 발전에 대한 연구)

  • Government policy supporting the fashion industry in Korea has focused on the future development of rising fashion designer's brands, and as a part of this support, several Fashion Creative Studios are presently operated. The purpose of this study is to identify the meaning of these facilities and suggest development strategies for their effective utilization. This paper presents a conceptual understanding based on a literature review, and deduces the direction of Fashion Creative Studios through an exploratory analysis of various case studies and in-depth interviews with five designers, who have graduated from the Seoul Fashion Creative Studio. The results are as follows. Firstly, fashion educational institutions have to provide sufficient information about the Fashion Creative Studios to students. They can also consider adding short-term residencies to the curriculum in which students prepare collections or portfolios for the studios. Secondly, Fashion Creative Studios are required to intensify business and marketing programs to increase real-world support. It would be helpful to provide 1:1 management programs with several segmented stages for the design brands, or connect them to investors who could provide financial support and business expansion. Thirdly, Fashion Creative Studios need to find a way to strengthen textile differentiation and craft characteristics to increase designer brand competitiveness. Broadening participation with textile designers, connecting with experts and ateliers, and promoting collaboration with artists and artisans in the Arts Creative Studios can be further examined to this end.

Dual-Band Antenna Design for LTE/Wi-Fi for Maritime Broadband Communication (해상 광대역 통신을 위한 LTE/Wi-Fi용 이중대역 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, we design an antenna for LTE / Wi-Fi communication that operates in 2.65 GHz and 5 GHz band for small-sized broadband communication antenna that can be used in the sea. Microstrip patch antennas were chosen to improve the bandwidth. The slot width, length, and transmission line width were calculated using the theoretical formula for each step. In addition, we designed a microstrip antenna using CST Microwave Studio 2014 program that can design 3D. Simulation results show that the reflection lossis -12.712 dB at 2.65 GHz and -16.583 dB at 5 GHz. The gain was 1.738 dBi at 2.65 GHz and 3.284 dBi at 5 GHz. In this paper, we propose a dual-band antenna for LTE / Wi-Fi, which can be used in maritime environments, which is worse than terrestrial communication, because of differences in communication speed and communication stability compared with those used on land.

A Study on the Teaching Method of Mobile Platform App Development for Improving Computing Thinking (컴퓨팅 사고력 향상을 위한 모바일 플랫폼 앱 개발 교수·학습 방법 연구)

  • Not only learners majoring in computer science, but also non-engineered learners want to implement their ideas as apps through real-life problems. In response, first-year university students with little experience in creating apps studied how to develop mobile platform apps to improve computing thinking skills. We applied the teaching and learning procedures of the Discovery-Design-Development among the software teaching and learning models, and used Android Studio Unified Development Environment (IDE) as a development tool to design mobile platform app development projects and assess whether they helped improve computing thinking skills. The application of the designed teaching and learning method found that the project output was implemented as an app through emulator, which gave students high interest in class and satisfaction, and was effective in improving their computing thinking ability.

  • In this paper we discuss the terms "exo-spatial design," "solar carving," and "bridging" as strategies for creating more socially connective tall buildings. As a typology, high-rise residential buildings have a unique set of challenges to becoming fully activated urban participants in the cities in which they are located. While there is a general recognition and appreciation that tall buildings provide identity to a city, there is often criticism of how they relate to their surroundings. Critics have posited that tall buildings are insular and foreboding by their very nature. This paper explores several design avenues for architects to consider in order to improve the social aspect of tall buildings. As all cities become taller and denser to accommodate growth, the need to design social space in, on, and around tall buildings must be continually examined if we are to have cohesive urban fabric that supports communities.

  • Auto-makers can only remain competitive by producing high quality vehicles in an efficient way. In designing a production line, one of the most important objectives of digital manufacturing is to verify design errors as early as possible. In terms of the cost and time saving, it is very essential to start the construction of a production line with a proven design which is error-free. Likewise, this paper aims to implement PLC verification using an example. The verification in automobile manufacturing means verifying PLC program, which control automatic devices. In this paper, we built a virtual factory to implement PLC simulation and introduced verification procedure using PLC Studio. Finally, we can prove the availability for the PLC verification.

A Design of Multi-band Antenna using asymmetric Bow-tie structure (비대칭 보우 타이 구조를 이용한 다중 대역 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a multi-band antenna with novel structure for mobile communications is designed and fabricated. The proposed antenna has the Multi-band antenna characteristics by two common-grounded slots with different size and angle. In order to reduce size and to enhance the gain of the antenna, a reflector is consisted of chokes on the three sides. It is optimized by using the CST Microwave Studio commercial software based on the FIA(Finite Integration Algorithm) and PBA(Perfect Boundary Approximation), and then the fabricating and measuring is practiced. As a result of measurement, the reflection coefficient is less than -11 dB(VSWR < 1.8) and the gain of antenna is more than 6dBi at 824~894MHz and 1885-2500MHz.

Design and Implementation of 2.4 ㎓ and 5 ㎓ Dual Band Antenna for Access Point of Wireless LAN (무선 LAN 엑세스 포인트용 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz 이중공진 안테나의 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, we present the 2.4 ㎓ and 5 ㎓ dual band antenna fur access point of WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network). The proposed antenna must have equal gains in both frequency bands to accept two services. We proposed using collinear array to compensate gain difference for two different frequency bands. Simulation results using 3D simulation program, CST MWS(Microwave Studio), for dual band antenna with collinear away show that the maximum gain is about 4.7 dBi at 2.4 ㎓, 5.2 dBi at 5.7 ㎓. We got additional gain of about 2.1 ㏈ with collinear array for 2.4 ㎓ in measurement. Measured results for the dual band antenna with collinear array show applicable performances for access point of wireless LAN.

  • In this paper, we implemented a web-based 3D virtual pottery gallery Using VR authoring tools. With this system, we expect to cause learning motives and Provide more realistic and interactive learning space. Out system was implemented by making panorama images and 3D object modules using Photo Vista. Object Modeler and Reality Studio. Users can connect to this web site(http://artstory.x-y.net), rotate a pottery panoramically, and zoom it in or out. We designed this virtual gallery can have beneficial influence on students' aesthetic aspects through realistic work appreciations in their art education processes.
