Factors Influencing the Health-related Quality of Life by Socioeconomic Level during Early Adolescence (사회경제적 수준별 초기 청소년의 건강 관련 삶의 질에 미치는 영향요인)

  • Purpose: This cross-sectional study was carried out to identify factors influencing the health-related quality of life according to socioeconomic level during early adolescence. Methods: Participants were 617 middle school students in $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ grade. All measures were self-administered. Data were analyzed using SPSS 21.0 program and factors affecting the health-related quality of life were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: According to the level of Family Affluence Scale (FAS), 19.1% of the participants were in the high class, 66.5% in the middle class, and 14.4% in the low class. We have found statistically significant differences among the high, middle, and low classes regarding the health-related quality of life, health perception, resourcefulness, family function, and social capital. The most influential factors of the health-related quality of life were found to be resourcefulness, family function, and social capital in the high and the middle class. Conclusion: The implication of this study is that it is important for the Education Ministry and middle school teachers to help adolescents develop internal coping resources as well as to develop school-curriculums considering social values and norms related to social capital in order to improving their health-related quality of life.

A Longitudinal Study of Bullying Victimization and Depression: Mediating Effects of Self-esteem and Self-resilience (학교폭력피해경험이 우울에 미치는 종단적 연구: 자아존중감과 자아탄력성의 매개효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of self-esteem and self-resilience while identifying the relationship between bullying victimization (being bullied) and depression based on a longitudinal study design. Methods: Participants were adolescent cohort of 1,971 middle school students participating in 2013 and 2014 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted by National Youth Policy Institute. Data were analyzed by Pearson's Correlation and regression. Results: The major findings are as follows. First, self-esteem and self-resilience were positively related to each other and negatively related to depression and bullying victimization. Second, bullying victimization effected the level of depression of adolescents and self-esteem played a mediating role between bullying victimization and depression while self-resilience did not. Conclusion: The results suggest that emotional factors continue to play an important role in promoting psychological adjustment of victims of bullying. Therefore, interventions are more likely to be successful if they focus on emotional skills development of adolescents.

Self-esteem as a Moderator of the Effects of Happiness, Depression, and Hostility on Suicidality Among Early Adolescents in Korea

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of self-esteem as a moderator of the factors influencing suicidality among middle-schoolers. Methods: Moderated multiple regression analysis was applied to assess the influence of happiness, depression, and hostility on suicidality and to determine the degree to which self-esteem served as a moderator of those relationships. Data were collected from 268 students at a middle school in Busan, Korea, using a self-administered structured questionnaire. Results: Happiness, depression, and hostility had significant direct effects on suicidality. Self-esteem showed no direct effect, but had a significant moderating effect on the relationship between hostility and suicidal behavior. Conclusions: These results suggest that various interventions, such as counseling programs, should be designed to alleviate hostility and depression and to enhance happiness and self-esteem among early adolescents.

The Influence of Self-Directed Learning and Learning Commitment on Learning Persistence Intention in Online Learning: Mediating Effect of Learning Motivation

  • This is a descriptive investigative study which attempts to confirm the mediating effect of learning motivation in the relationship between self-directed learning, learning commitment, and learning persistence intention of university students in an online learning environment. The questionnaires were randomly distributed online and the agreed questionnaires were retrieved, with a total of 338 copies used for analysis. The following is the summary of the findings. First, there were significant differences in learning persistence intention according to general characteristics depending on age, major, part-time job, and academic level. Second, the results showed a positive correlation between self-directed learning, learning commitment, learning motivation, and learning persistence intentions of the subjects were statistically significant. Third, after checking the mediating effect of learning motivation in relation to self-directed learning, learning commitment and learning motivation, the learning motivation has a partial mediating effect on learning and 23% explanatory power, and the learning commitment was found to have a complete mediating effect on the impact of learning motivation on learning intentions with 21% explanatory power. Based on these results, it is necessary to provide a more diverse educational environment, such as operating a motivation semester program that can improve learning motivations along with learning commitment, and the use of a variety of contents that can focus the learner's interest or attention.

e-teaching portfolio development : Scoping Review

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an e-teaching portfolio to perform a teaching portfolio of an instructor on the web. I order to carry out this study, an initial model of the e-teaching portfolio was developed through systematic literature review, and the final e-teaching portfolio was developed by selecting and applying five students, then modifying and supplementing them. The study period was from May 1 to May 20, 2022. As a result of the study, the components of the finally developed e-teaching portfolio are Step 1: Understanding oneself, Step 2: Goal setting, Step 3: Learning strategy, Step 4: Self-check. In conclusion, the program developed through this study is a convenient function that can process everything in one place by connecting the fragmented teaching results, and the developed e-teaching portfolio can promote interaction between individuals by building a community. It has possible characteristics. In order to systematically activate the e-teaching portfolio developed through this study, it is necessary to establish an online management system for systematic operation. Furthermore, an institutional device is needed to guarantee the result of the developed e-teaching portfolio. In order to continuously manage the quality of the teaching portfolio, extrinsic rewards that stimulate the instructor's intrinsic motivation should be provided.

Health Equity, Health Behaviors, and Mental Health Factors Affecting Subjective Happiness among Korean Adolescents by Family Type: Using Data of the 16th Korean Youth Risk Behavior Survey (청소년 가족유형별 건강형평성, 건강행위 및 정신건강 요인이 행복감에 미치는 영향: 제16차 청소년건강행태 온라인조사 자료 활용)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to prepare basic data for education and policy proposals related to enhancement of happiness by identifying factors affecting the subjective happiness among Korean adolescents by family type. Methods: The study was a secondary analysis using the raw data of the 16th Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2020). A complex sample multiple logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify factors affecting adolescent happiness by family type. Results: As a result, the factors that commonly affect the subjective happiness of adolescents for all family types were identified as economic status, academic performance, perceived stress, and loneliness. Additional factors that affect the subjective happiness of adolescents of both Korean two-parent and single parent families were sleep and subjective health status. Financial assistance, number of toilets, breakfast, exercise, depression, suicidal ideation, and suicide attempt were also reported for Korean two-parent families. Conclusion: This study provided empirical basic data for enhancing adolescent happiness in consideration of priority targets and family composition characteristics by identifying factors affecting subjective happiness by family type. Adolescent happiness is a factor that should be actively pursued at home, school, and society, and it should be the goal of education for holistic growth of students.

Influencing factors on premenstrual syndrome in adolescent (청소년의 월경곤란증 영향요인)

  • The purpose of this study is descriptive survey to menstrual difficulties and coping experience in adolescents. The health locus of control(HLOC) was shown in the internal HLOC, powerful other HLOC, and chance HLOC. Coping types appeared active behavioral, active cognitive, and avoidance. The finding showed that the influencing factors were internal HLOC, menstrual discomfort, and hospital visits, and the explanatory power for this 11.7%. Further research is needed considering the lifestyles of students.

Anatomy teaching in Saudi medical colleges- is there necessity of the national core syllabus of anatomy

  • Curricular updates in medicine resulted in changes in gross anatomy teaching. We aim to find the trends and methods of gross anatomy teaching in medicine programs in Saudi Arabia. Further, examine whether the data would help to discuss whether a core Anatomy syllabus is required. A survey questionnaire based on the earlier studies, was sent to the anatomy faculty of 25 medical colleges to collect the data on the pedagogic and dissection/laboratory approaches, inclusion of radiological, clinical, surface anatomy sessions, and the total number of hours allocated for anatomy education. A total of 15 responses were received from different medical colleges of which nine provided complete details. A wide variation in the component and mode of delivery of anatomy was observed. The number of hours for the anatomy course ranged from 89 to 388 hours. These data will provide an update on gross anatomy teaching approaches, which will help in making informed decisions in course revisions and adopting the best practices. The variations in anatomy course with short duration raises concern about whether the essential learning outcomes are achieved to prepare a skillful and safe clinician? do we require a core syllabus of Anatomy to be adopted at the national level to achieve the essential learning outcomes? The Anatomical Society, UK has developed core syllabi of Anatomy for undergraduate medical, dental, nursing, and pharmacy students, which can serve as a guide in developing the core syllabus of Anatomy for medicine in Saudi.

The Relationship between Alcohol Use and Drinking Problems Among College Students (대학생의 음주실태와 음주문제와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between alcohol use and drinking problems among college students. Data were collected by structured questionnaires from 400 college students by convenient sampling methods from September 26 to October 14, 2011. Data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 15.0 program. The results were as follows: According to the Alcohol Use Disorder Identification Test (AUDIT), subjects were classified into four groups such as 40.2% of no problem, 36.7% of drinking problem, 6.8% of high risk drinking problem and 16.3% of alcohol dependence. The alcohol use and drinking problems were significant difference for gender, age, type of residence, age of first drinking, cause of drinking, frequency and amount of drinking. The alcohol use was correlated with drinking problems: social function impairment(r=.601, p<.01), behavior problem(r=.579, p<.01), family and interpersonal impairment(r=.637, p<.01). The influencing factors of drinking problems were alcohol use(${\beta}$=.640, p=.000). This study concludes that it is necessary to establish alcohol use policies on campus and develop temperance education program to reduce alcohol consumption and drinking problems.

The Effects on Harassment Behavior and Damage Behavior of Perception of Dating Violence of Male University Students (남자대학생의 데이트폭력 인식이 데이트폭력 가해행동 및 피해행동에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of male university student perceptions of dating violence on dating violence abuse behavior and damage behavior. The subjects of the study were 233 students from six departments at U University located in Chungbuk. As a research instrument, Haeun Yoon's(2013) instrument was used to recognize dating violence, and CTS2 was used as a instrument for harassment and damaging behavior of dating violence. For data analysis, correlation analysis between dating violence perception and damage behavior was performed, and regression analysis was performed to determine the effect of dating violence perception on dating violence harassment and damage behavior. First, it was shown that there was a significant negative correlation between the harassment behavior or damage behavior and perception of dating violence in male university students. Second, it was found that the recognition of dating violence had a significant negative effect on the harassment behavior and damage behavior of dating violence. The results of the research could be used as basic data to develop a dating violence prevention program.
