Method: The subjects were 175 third year nursing students. Data were collected from June 3 to 14, 2013 through a self-reporting questionnaire. Data analysis was performed by multiple regression using the SPSSWIN 21.0 program. Results: The organizational socialization score of nursing students averaged 3.79 points (5 Likert scale). Practice education satisfaction, communication competence and group cohesion of nursing students influenced organizational socialization ($R^2$ 52.5%, F=49.051, p<.001). Conclusion: For nursing students, practice education satisfaction, communication competence and group cohesion are significant variables for organizational socialization. Thus, in order to enhance the organizational socialization of nursing students, there is a need to develop a differentiated practicum curriculum that considers nursing student demands in collaboration with nursing faculty and administrators on the basis of education programs, including concepts of communication competence and group cohesion.

Methods: Participants were 100 first year students at a nursing college located in K city. The students were asked to submit a written answer to an open-ended question. Data were collected in March, 2011, before the students started nursing courses, and again in June, 2011, after they had finished one semester of nursing courses. Data were analyzed using Van Kaam's phenomenological method. After finishing one semester of nursing courses, they regarded nursing as a profession that requires motherly care, love and devotion, and as meaningful and beautiful to do. Conclusions: After finishing one semester of nursing courses, the images of nursing held by the students changed from a traditional perspective emphasizing the emotional and negative aspects to one focusing more on the professional and positive aspects. It is essential to establish healthy and positive images of nursing among students through the nursing curriculum.

  • Purpose: As coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and other emerging infectious diseases continue to threaten health security, a strategy is required to increase nursing students' care intention for patients with such diseases. This study aimed to identify factors influencing Korean nursing students' care intentions in regard to patients with emerging infectious diseases. Methods: The care intention, COVID-19 knowledge level, ethical sensitivity, beliefs, attitudes toward the care intention, subjective norms, and perceived behavioral control were investigated using the theory of planned behavior. An online survey was completed from December 2020 to January 2021 by 227 nursing students who had complete a clinical practicum. Descriptive statistics, correlation, and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted on the data. Results: The care intention was higher in men than in women nursing students and in junior than in senior students. Behavioral and normative beliefs, attitude toward the behavior, and perceived behavioral control significantly predicted care intention. Ethical sensitivity increased the predictability of nursing students' care intentions for emerging infectious disease patients. Conclusion: The theory of planned behavior predicted nursing students' care intentions for emerging infectious diseases. Therefore, an experience-based response program on emerging infectious diseases is required for nursing students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the self-efficacy, depression, and health promotion behaviors of nursing and non-nursing female college students, and to develop a program to improve the health promotion behaviors of female college students. Methods: One hundred sixty-six females (84 nursing, 82 non-nursing) college students participated in the study. Data collection was conducted between November 20 and December 8, 2017. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, ANCOVA, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression analysis with the SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: The results of health promotion behaviors of the nursing college students were higher than non-nursing college students (F=7.14, p=.008). Both nursing and non-nursing college students showed a positive correlation between health promotion behaviors and self-efficacy, and there was a negative correlation between health promotion behaviors and depression. Self-efficacy was the most influential factor in health promotion behaviors for both nursing and non-nursing female college students. Conclusion: In order to improve the health promotion behaviors of female college students, it is necessary to educate individuals to help them improve their self-efficacy and be able to maintain healthy lifestyles by perceiving and managing their own health conditions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the present study was to assess the effectiveness of a nursing skills enhancement program in improving the self-efficacy and self-esteem of senior nursing students. Methods: This was a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design study that enrolled 306 senior nursing students. The nursing students were randomly assigned to an experimental(n=132) or control group (n=174), and students assigned to the experimental group completed a nursing skills enhancement program, which consisted of four skills training components: IV infusion, enema, $O_2$ therapy by means of cannulation and urinary catheterization. Data were analyzed with frequency, the chi-squared test, and the paired t-test using the SPSS/pc 15.0 statistical program. Results: Our results showed that the self-esteem and self-efficacy of nursing students who were assigned to the nursing skills enhancement program were significantly better compared to those of nursing students in the control group (t=10.198 and t=6.452, for self-efficacy and self-esteem, respectively, p<.001 for both variables). Conclusion: Our findings clearly show that a nursing skills enhancement program is effective in improving the self-efficacy and self-esteem of senior nursing students.
