  • In this study, fluid-induced vibration (FIV) analyses have been conducted for tall building structure. In order to investigate the aeroelastic responses of tall building due to wind load, advanced computational analysis system based n computational fluid dynamics(CFD) and computational structural dynamics (CSD) has been developed. Fluid domains are modeled using the computational grid system with local grid deforming technique. A fully implicit time marching scheme based on the Newmark direct integration method is used for computing the coupled aeroelastic governing equations of tall structure for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems. Detailed aeroelastic responses and results are presented to show the physical phenomenon of the tall building.

  • In ship structures, many parts are in contact with inner or outer fluid as stern, ballast and oil tanks. Fatigue damages can be sometimes observed in these tanks which seem to be caused by resonance. Tank structures in ships are in contact with water and the vibration characteristics are strongly affected by the added mass of containing water. Therefore it is important to predict vibration characteristics of tank structures. In order to estimate the vibration characteristics, the fluid-structure interaction problem has to be solved precisely. In the present paper, we have developed a numerical tool of vibration analysis of 3-dimensional tank structures using finite elements for plates and boundary elements for water region. To verify the present analysis, we have made an experiment for vibration characteristics of a tank with elastic opposite panels. And the added mass effect of containing water and the effect of structural constraint between panels are investigated numerically and discussed.

  • Vibration problem of deckhouse structure in a container vessel was investigated through the analysis and measurement. The natural frequency of deckhouse structure was found to be resonant with main engine 4th order excitations in the operating range, major sources of which were main engine inertial moment and axial thrust of the propulsion shafting system. To investigate and solve the problem, exciter test was performed to identify the vibration chracteristics of the ship structure and mechanical balancer was installed to compensate the 4th order inertial moment. Measurement results under the conditions with and without balancer operating were compared and analyzed to confirm the balancer effect. Good coincidence was found between the measurement and analysis results, which made it possible to predict the vibration problem in the earlier design stage.

  • In the design of passive and active boring bars, the structural dimensions and shape of the vibration control boring bar are modified depending on the diameter and depth of the workpiece, which changes the dynamic behavior. Thus, the natural frequency, effective mass, and stiffness for the main structure of a tube-type boring bar need to be reset for each vibration control case. However, commercial finite element method (FEM) software and experimental modal analysis are mostly used at present despite being too time-consuming. To overcome the weaknesses of the two methods currently used for vibration control, we realized a graphical user interface (GUI) program for the modal analysis of a modified tube-type damping structure. The analysis results with the GUI program were compared to those with commercial FEM software in order to confirm the effectiveness of the former.

  • In this study, the assumed mode method using characteristic polynomials of Timoshenko beam is applied to the free vibration analysis for the stiffened plate of ship tank side in contact with water. The hydro-elastic effect of the fluid-structure interaction is considered by fluid velocity potential, derived from boundary conditions for fluid and structure, and utilized in the calculation of added mass matrix using assumed modes. To verify the validity and effectiveness of the presented method, free vibration analysis for the stiffened plates in contact with finite and infinite fluids have been carried out and its results were compared with those obtained by a general purpose FEA software.

  • The soil-structure interactions are caused by the point sources of explosions, deriving piles, compaction of foundations and excavations those are frequently arose in the construction sites. Thus the analysis of soil-structure interactions is one of the most important subjects in the fields of dynamic analysis and vibration control. From this viewpoint, the aim of this study is to collect the basic data for designing foundation structures throughout understanding the dynamic structural behavior, which is embodied by the dynamic analysis of soil-structure systems. In this study, the dynamic analyses of stiffened thick plates subjected to in-plane stress on elastic foundations are carried out. The foundation is modeled as Pasternak foundation that includes the continuity effect of foundations. Also both the Mindlin plate theory and Timoshenko beam-column theory are used for analyzing the thick plates and beams, respectively.

  • Generally, the problem of vertical vibration of structure is generated slab. Analysis of space framed structures with slab for vertical vibration requires more efficient modeling and analysis technique, because number of elements lead to more complicated model with many degree of freedom which requires large amount of computing resources for dynamic analysis. This paper propose an efficient analysis method for vertical vibration of space framed structure with slab. At first, proposed model is selected minimum joints and degree of freedom which are acquired sufficient dynamic response to the vertical vibration. Secondly, super-elements that are made a number of element are used for simple input data and fast analysis.

  • In order to improve the environmental vibration, it is necessary to method for not only reduce the vibration source, but also control the vibration path. In this study, we used borebole for estimate the vibration reduction. And also, we analyzed displacement and vibration velocity caused by the position of borehole as well as the condition of borehole in ground structure. Visual FEA(Finite Element Analysis) program was used in this numerical analysis. The results are as follows : The displacement magnitude and X, Y direction displacement were represented to different results due to the condition and position of borehole, and were represented to the lowest values when the position of borehole is the most close condition from the vibration source. And also, the vibration velocity was decreased as using borebole in ground structure. The isolation efficiency of the vibration was calculated to maximum 18.40% when borehole was established to the most close position from the vibration source and the receive point.

  • Column mixer is one of the facility to mix fluids at petrochemical plants. The column vibration is caused by pumps for fluid inflow and mixing of inside fluids. This fluid induced vibration is mainly responsible for the reduction of column life. Measurements were performed three times for understanding the vibration characteristics of the column. First experimental results showed the need of stiffness reinforcement. After the reinforcement work, second measurement conformed the difference between two results. Modal analysis was also performed to investigate the resonance of the column vibration and the damage of the rib plate. To confirm the generation of the fluid instability in the column mixer fluid structure interaction analysis using ADINA/FSI was performed which showed the necessity of the modification of the rotary valve.
