Sector scanner which has a conical end is used to image through the intercostal space because heart is protected by the ribs. Cardiac data published all around the world were also obtained by sector scanner. Although scanners being used in every small animal practice and animal hospital at college in Korea include convex ape and linear type, linear type is not appropriate f3r cardiac scan because of a wide contact surface. The purpose of this study is to establish ultrasonographic images of normal cardiac structures by measuring shape, size of reflectable cardiac structure according to restraint position in scanning normal heart of the puppies with 6.5 MHz convex scanner(SonoAce 4500, Medison, Korea) used in our veterinary teaching hospital, Seoul national university. Seventeen male and female puppies considered having healthy hear by X-ray and clinical examination are used feom April to July 1994. Scanning point selection of probe head and the distinction of imaged cardiac structures were accomplished by necropsy and cardiac scanning performed through thoracotomy under general anesthesia. At 10 o'clock position of transducer(at an angle of 30$^{\circ}$ between imaginary line from elbow joint to 3rd sternum and probe head, 60$^{\circ}$ from body surface, 4th intercostal space of right thorax) with the marker of scanner toward the head of dogs right atrium, left atrium and left ventricle were observed in 2, 3, 4, 5 intercostal space(2cm from the sternum) of experimental dog positioned ventrodorsally under general anesthesia. Under these conditions, the numerical values of imaged diastolic hear are as follows : the distance from skin to apex(mean$\pm$S.D) 47.53$\pm$6.94mm, thickness of left ventricular wall 6.00$\pm$1.60mm, length of left ventricle 16.27$\pm$5.31mm, width of left ventricle 15,33$\pm$4.25mm, length of left atrium 12.33$\pm$3.82mm, width of left atrium 11. 33$\pm$3.94mm, length of right atrium 1.00$\pm$2.41mm, width of right atrium 11.21$\pm$2.76mm and the area of left ventricle 270.92$\pm$109.81mm$^2$, area of left atrium 98.00$\pm$41.08mm$^2$, area of right atrium 62.75$\pm$21.04mm$^2$.
HVOF thermal spray coating of 80%WC-CoFe powder is one of the most promising candidate for the replacement of the traditional hard chrome plating and hard ceramics coating because of the environmental problem of the very toxic $Cr^{6+}$ known as carcinogen by chrome plating and the brittleness of ceramics coatings. 80%WC-CoFe powder was coated by HVOF thermal spraying for the study of durability improvement of the high speed spindle such as air bearing spindle. The coating procedure was designed by the Taguchi program, including 4 parameters of hydrogen and oxygen flow rates, powder feed rate and spray distance. The surface properties of the 80%WC-CoFe powder coating were investigated roughness, hardness and porosity. The optimal condition for thermal spray has been ensured by the relationship between the spary parameters and the hardness of the coatings. The optimal coating process obtained by Taguchi program is the process of oxygen flow rate 34 FRM, hydrogen flow rate 57 FRM, powder feed rate 35 g/min and spray distance 8 inch. The coating cross-sectional structure was observed scanning electron microscope before chemical etching. Estimation of coating porosity was performed using metallugical image analysis. The Friction and wear behaviors of HVOF WC-CoFe coating prepared by OCP are investigated by reciprocating sliding wear test at $25^{\circ}C$ and $450^{\circ}C$. Friction coefficients (FC) of coating decreases as sliding surface temperature increases from $25^{\circ}C$ to $450^{\circ}C$.

The strength properties of wooden model retaining wall made of pitch pine (Pinus rigida Miller) was evaluated. Three different types of wooden model retaining wall were made of the 11cm square timber treated with CUAZ-2 (Copper Azole). The retaining wall was made into the 4 layers of crossbar and the 3 layers of vertical-bar, of which the size was 86 cm high, 200 cm long and 96 cm wide. Type I was control and in Type II 20 cm vertical-bars and 93 cm vertical-bars were arranged alternately to decrease wood usage. TypeIII was similar to TypeII except that the connection between crossbars was reinforced with the wooden armature. In each type, the strength properties of retaining wall were investigated by horizontal loading test and the deformation of structure by image processing (AICON 3D DPA-PRO system). In horizontal loading test of Type I, Type II and Type III was 63.17, 57.80, and 60.97 kN/m, respectively. The deformation of the top layer in Type II was 1.5 times larger than in Type I and Type III. Consequently, the economic efficiency and strength performance were better in Type III than in Type I and Type II.

The principal reasons for applying a pigment coating to paper are to improve appearance and printability. The pigment coating provides a surface that is more uniform and more receptive to printing ink than are the uncoated fibers and, in turn, both facilitates the printing process and enhances the graphic reproduction. The improvement in print quality is readily apparent, especially in image areas or when multiple colors are involved. Although pigment coating of paper is to improve the printability, coated paper is not completely free from printing defects. Actually there are a number printing defects that are observed only with the coated papers. Among the printing defects that are commonly observed for coated papers, print mottle during multi-color offset printing is one of the most concerned defects, and it appears not only on solid tone area but also half dot print area. There are four main causes of print mottle ranging from printing inks, dampening solution, paper, and printing press or its operation. These indicates that almost every factors associated with lithographic printing can cause print mottle. Among these variation of paper quality influences most significantly on print mottle problems in multicolor offset printing, and this indicates that paper is most often to be blamed for its product deficiency as far as print mottle problems are concerned. Furthermore, most of the print mottle problems associated with paper is observed when coated papers are printed. Uncoated papers rarely show mottling problems. This indicates that print mottle is the most serious quality problems of coated paper products. Overcoming the print mottle is becoming more difficult because the operating speeds of coating and printing machines are increasing, coating weights are decreasing, and the demands on high-quality printing are increasing. Print mottle in offset printing is caused by (a) nonuniform back trap of ink caused by a nonuniform rate of ink drying, referred as "back trap mottle, and (b) nonuniform absorption of the dampening solution. Furthermore, both forms of print mottle have some relationship to the structure of the coated layer. The surest way of eliminating ink mottling is to eliminate unevenness in the base paper. Coating solutions, often easier to put into practice, should, however, be considered. In this paper the principal factors influencing print mottle of coated papers will be discussed. Especially the importance of base paper roughness, binder migration, even consolidation of coating layers, control of the drying rate, types of binders, etc. will be described.

Petrological, paleomagnetic, geomorphological and structural studies on the southern part of, so called, Chugaryeong rift valley, have been carried out in order to clarify the nature of the rift valley. Three stages of volcanic activities characterized by Jijangbong acidic volcanic rocks and tholeiitic and andesitic basalt of Cretaceous age(?), and Jongok Quaternary olivine basalt occurred along the Dongducheon fault line. Jijangbong acidic volcanic rocks distributed in the central part of the studied area consist of rhyodacite, acidic tuff and tuff breccia, which are bounded by Dongsong fault on the east and Daegwangri fault on the west. The Jongok basalt differs from those of Ulrung and Jeju islands in mineralogy, chemical composition and differentiation. Jongok basalt distributed along the Hantan river dilineates the vesicles curved toward downstream direction and increment of numbers and thickness of lava flow toward upstream direction. These facts suggest that lava flowed from upstream side of the river. Rectangular drainage patterns also support the presence of the Dongducheon, Pocheon, Wangsukcheon and Kyonggang faults which were previously known. LANDSAT image, however, does not show any lineaments which could be counted as a graben or rift valley. Displacement of Precambrian quartzite and Jurassic Daedong supergroup along the southwestern extension of the Dongducheon fault shows the right lateral movement. The Paleomagnetic study of the tholeiitic and andesitic basalts from Baegeuri, Jangtanri and Tonghyeonri located at 2. 3km east, 0km east, and 1.5km west of Dongducheon fault respectively shows that their VGP(Virtual Geomagnetic Pole) being to intermediate geomagnetic field of short duration which suggests that they formed in almost same period. Mean VGP of Jongok basalt is located 82.4N and 80.6E. This is in good coincidence with worldwide VGP of Plio-Pleistocene indicating that Jongok basalt was extruded during Plio-Pleistocene epoch, and suggesting that the studied area has been tectonically stable since then. From the present study, the tectonic episode of the region is concluded as following three stages. 1. The 1st period is worked by the Daebo orogeny of Jurassic during which granodiorite was intruded in Precambrian basement. 2. The 2nd period is the time when right lateral strike-slip fault of NNE-SSW direction was formed probably during late Cretaceous to Paleogene and the Jijangbong acidic volcanic rocks and the older basalts were extruded. 3. The 3rd period is the time when the fault was rejuvenated during Pliocene or Pleistocene accompanied by the eruption of Jongok basalt. As a conclusion, geologic structure of the studied area is rather fault line valley than graben or rift valley, which is formed by differential erosion along the Dongducheon fault suggesting a continuation of the Sikhote-Alin fault. The volcanic rocks including the Jijangbong acidic rocks, tholeiitic-andesitic basalt and olivine basalt are associated with this fault line.

Virtual colonoscopy is an easy and fast method to reconstruct the shape of colon and diagnose tumors inside the colon based on computed tomography images. This is a non-invasive method, which resolves weak points of previous invasive methods. The path for virtual colonoscopy should be generated rapidly and accurately for clinical examination. However, previous methods are computationally expensive because the data structure such as distance map should be constructed in the preprocessing and positions of all the points of the path needs to be calculated. In this paper, we propose the automatic path generation method based on visibility to decrease path generation time. The proposed method does not require preprocessing and generates small number of control points representing the Path instead of all points to generate the path rapidly. Also, our method generates the path based on visibility so that a virtual camera moves smoothly and a comfortable and accurate path is calculated for virtual navigation. Also, our method can be used for general virtual navigation of various kinds of pipes.
The electronic nose (E-nose) recently finds its applications in medical diagnosis, specifically on detection of diabetes, pulmonary or gastrointestinal problem, or infections by examining odors in the breath or tissues with its odor characterizing ability. The odor recognition performance of E-nose can be improved by manipulating the sensor array responses of vapors in time-profile forms. The different chemical interactions between the sensor materials and the volatile organic compounds (VOC's) leave unique marks in the signal profiles giving more information than collection of the conventional piecemal features, i.e., maximum sensitivity, signal slopes, rising time. In this study, to use them in vapor recognition task conveniently, a novel time-profile method was proposed, which is adopted from digital image pattern matching. The degrees of matching between 8 different vapors were evaluated by using the proposed method. The test vapors are measured by the silicon-based gas sensor array with 16 CB-polymer composites installed in membrane structure. The results by the proposed method showed clear discrimination of vapor species than by the conventional method.

In this paper, development of mobile robot for the inspection of hull surface was mentioned. In the sea, it is difficult to proceed with the visual inspection of hull side and thus mobile robot for checking the status could be run with strap-on its surface. To do this, permanent magnet module to generate magnetic force between hull surface and mobile robot, and structure to minimize variance of the force under curvature circumstance were considered on the design. Based on the design, mobile robot with four NdFeB, four driving wheels and image aquisition module was applied. Load experiment to check the adhesive force, slip test during stop state and driving test to measure driving speed were executed. From the experiments 13 Kgf adhesive force was obtained and slip was not happened until 8 Kgf load on the inclined plate. Driving speed of mobile robot was measured at 0.82 m/s corresponding to 6.5 ampere. We confirmed the effectiveness of developed mobile robot by experiments to check its characteristics.

The borehole radar reflection survey can image the underground structure with high resolution, however, we cannot get any information on the orientation of the reflectors with dipole antenna alone. The direction-finding antenna system is commonly used to give the solution to the problem. However, the interpretation of the data from direction- finding antenna may be time-consuming, and sometimes have ambiguities in the sense of precise determination of the azimuth. To solve the problem, we developed the automatic azimuth finding scheme of reflectors in borehole radar reflection data using direction-finding antenna. The algorithm is based on finding the azimuthal angle possibly showing the maximum reflection amplitude in the least-squared error sense. The developed algorithm was applied to the field data acquired in quarry mine. It was possible to locate nearly all of the reflectors in three dimensional fashion, which coincide with the known geological structures and man-made discontinuities.
Multicomponent seismic data including both P- and PS-waves have advantages in discriminating the type of pore fluid, characterizing the lithologic attributes and producing the high resolution image. However, multicomponent seismic data recorded at the vertical and horizontal component receivers contain both P- and PS-waves which have different features, simultaneously. Therefore, the wavefield separation of P- and PS-waves as a preprocessing is inevitable in order to use the multicomponent seismic data successfully. In this study, we analyzed the previous study of the wavefield separation method suggested by Jeong and Byun in 2011, where the approximated reflection angle calculated only from one refernce depth is used in rotation transform, and showed its limitation for seismic data containing various reflected events from the multi-layered structure. In order to overcome its limitation, we suggested a new effective wavefield separation method of P- and PS-waves. In new method, we calculate the reflection angles with various reference depths and apply rotation transforms to the data with those reflection angles. Then we stack all results to obtain the final separated data. To verify our new method, we applied it to the synthetic data sets from a multi-layered model, a fault model, and the Marmousi-2 model. The results showed that the proposed method separated successfully P- and PS-reflection events from the multicomponent data from mild dipping layered model as long as the dip is not too steep.
