Coarse-grained soils are typical engineering materials commonly used in many civil engineering applications such as structural fills, subgrade and drainage fills for dam, railway and bridge. Various researches have been performed with related to constitutive laws for numerical analysis of such structures. This paper presents a parametric study for a constitutive model for coarse grained materials. The model is a kind of the bounding surface models based on critical state theory. A distinct feature of the model is to capture the response of coarse-grained materials with different void ratios and confining pressures using a single set of model parameters. The model behavior is defined with a set of elastic parameters, critical state parameters, and model-specific parameters. The parametric study was performed for the model-specific parameters. The result of parametric study shows that the model is capable to capture stress-dilatancy behavior and kinematic-hardening under non-associative plastic flow.
A frequency-domain method is developed for evaluating the earthquake input energy to two building structures connected by viscous dampers. It is shown that the earthquake input energies to respective building structures and viscous connecting dampers can be defined as works done by the boundary forces between the subsystems on their corresponding displacements. It is demonstrated that the proposed energy transfer function is very useful for clear understanding of dependence of energy consumption ratios in respective buildings and connecting viscous dampers on their properties. It can be shown that the area of the energy transfer function for the total system is constant regardless of natural period and damping ratio because the constant Fourier amplitude of the input acceleration, relating directly the area of the energy transfer function to the input energy, indicates the Dirac delta function and only an initial velocity (kinetic energy) is given in this case. Owing to the constant area property of the energy transfer functions, the total input energy to the overall system including both buildings and connecting viscous dampers is approximately constant regardless of the quantity of connecting viscous dampers. This property leads to an advantageous feature that, if the energy consumption in the connecting viscous dampers increases, the input energies to the buildings can be reduced drastically. For the worst case analysis, critical excitation problems with respect to the impulse interval for double impulse (simplification of pulse-type impulsive ground motion) and multiple impulses (simplification of long-duration ground motion) are considered and their solutions are provided.
The teleosts represent ancient real-bony vertebrates in phylogeny and resemble major genetic patterns to higher vertebrates. In the present study, we have defined the single family of insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) from flounder (Paralichthys olivaceus), compared to the prototype of IGFs observed in the Agnathan hagfish. In flounder, IGFs are clearly diverged into two major types including type I and II, and they are structurally similar by displaying a multidomain structure consisting of five functional regions as previously found in other vertebrates. However, flIGF-I appears to be more basic (pI 8.03) than the flIGF-II (pI 5.34) in the fully processed form for the B to D domain region. The flIGF-I seems to contain an evolutionary conserved Asn-linked glycosylation in E domain, which is not found in flIGFII. The most interesting feature is that flIGF-II appeared to be structurally close to hagfish IGF in secondary structures, particularly in Band D domains. This could tell us an idea on the molecular divergence of IGFs from the Agnatha to teleosts during the vertebrate phylogeny. It also support, in part, a notion regarding on how IGF-II is appeared as more embryonic during development. Nonetheless, the biologically active B to D domain region of flIGF-II shows significant sequence homology of $65.6\%$ to flIGF-Is and contains the evolutionary conserved insulin-family signature, as well as a reserved recognition site (Lys) in D domain, necessary to generate proteolytic cleavage for E-peptide. A significant structural difference was found in E domain in which flIGF-I possesses two potential alternative splicing donor site at $Val^{17,\;24}$ of E domain. Therefore, it seems so far that IGF-I sorely produces spliced variants due to the spliced E-peptide moiety while IGF-II appears to be maintained in a single type during evolution. IGF-II, however, may be also possible to transcribe unidentified variants, depending on the physiological conditions of tissues in vertebrates in vivo.
Study on spermatid and spermatozoon of a Korean endemic freshwater fish, Microphysogobio yaluensis, has been carried out by transmission electron microscope. Spermiogenesis involves conspicuous modifications intercelluar movement such as centrioles and mitochondria migration, nuclear depression and structural changes for instance chroatin condensation, excess of cytoplasm. The mature spermatozoa are similar to those of other cyprinids as follows: a spherical nucleus with a shallow nuclear fossa, a short midpiece containing several mitochondria and encircling the basal body of the flagellum. However there are some differences in the orientation of the centrioles, the number of the mitochondria and distribution of vesicles from other cyprinids. It could be concluded that the M. yaluensis spermiogenesis belongs to type 2, and its mature spermatozoon is charaterized by a unique feature which may provide a useful systematic character.

This paper proposes a work procedure for generalizing large-scale digital maps ver. 2.0(1/5,000) into a small-scale digital map(1/25,000). Unlike a existent digital map, the digital map ver. 2.0 has a variety of attribute data as well as graphic data. To perform an efficient map generalization with these structural properties, we establish a work procedure as follow; firstly, delete layers which don't exist in small-scale digital map's feature code, and secondly, generalize features which have been classified into 8 layers, and finally merge 8 layers which have been generalized into 1 layer. Therefore, we expect that a work procedure which is proposed in this paper will play a fundamental role in automated generalization system and will contribute to small-scale digital mapping and thematic mapping.
In this paper a novel approach is proposed to address the problem of deriving non-stationary stochastic processes which are compatible in the mean sense with a given (target) response (uniform hazard) spectrum (UHS) as commonly desired in the aseismic structural design regulated by contemporary codes of practice. The appealing feature of the approach is that it is non-iterative and "one-step". This is accomplished by solving a standard over-determined minimization problem in conjunction with appropriate median peak factors. These factors are determined by a plethora of reported new Monte Carlo studies which on their own possess considerable stochastic dynamics merit. In the proposed approach, generation and treatment of samples of the processes individually on a deterministic basis is not required as is the case with the various "two-step" approaches found in the literature addressing the herein considered task. The applicability and usefulness of the approach is demonstrated by furnishing extensive numerical data associated with the elastic design UHS of the current European (EC8) and the Chinese (GB 50011) aseismic code provisions. Purposely, simple and thus attractive from a practical viewpoint, uniformly modulated processes assuming either the Kanai-Tajimi (K-T) or the Clough-Penzien (C-P) spectral form are employed. The Monte Carlo studies yield damping and duration dependent median peak factor spectra, given in a polynomial form, associated with the first passage problem for UHS compatible K-T and C-P uniformly modulated stochastic processes. Hopefully, the herein derived stochastic processes and median peak factor spectra can be used to facilitate the aseismic design of structures regulated by contemporary code provisions in a Monte Carlo simulation-based or stochastic dynamics-based context of analysis.
From the view point of phytopathological anatomy, the author has tried to study the effect of the shoot cluster disease virus on the internal structure of vascular tissues of chinese date tree (Ziziphus jujuba var. inermis Rehd.) comparing healthy checks and diseased plants. The materials were collected at the several sites, Kumgock-Ri, Masuc-Ri, Kyungi-Do, and near the campus of Korea University and around the area of Chongam-Dong, Seoul City, from August 15th to September 5th 1959. The leaf materials of healthy and diseased plants are fixed and aspirated in two kinds of killing solutions, formalin-acetic acid alcohol solution and Craf III solution. Sections were cut at 5-10$\mu$ thickness and stained with the double staining reagents of safranin and fast green. In this experiment the author has observed that there are marked structural changes in the infected plants in contrast of healthy checks. As figures 3-7 show that the following characteric changes have taken place on infected plants: 1) the arrangement of irregularly developed sieve elements in phloem, 2) the degeneration of phloem elements, 3) the irregular arrangement of epidermis in mid-vein, 4) more necrosis is observed among the parenchymatous cells, 5) abundant accumulatin of starch grains in parenchymatous cells, . In contrast to the above irregularities caused by the virus disease, the healthy checks appear normal structures as shown in figures 1 and 2. In adding to the all features noted above, the author could also observe an interesting feature that the xylem elements in mid-vein vascular bundle tissues are considerably disorganized to show the unspecialized vessel elements, the irregularly arranged xylem elements. However, this kind of irregularities which occur in xylem under the virus infection has not been reported previously. The features noted on the internal structure of vascular bundle under the condition of infection by the shoot cluster disease on chinese date trees appear to be more or less closely similar to the symptoms of the bunchy-top of banana and the yellow dwarf disease of barley in respect to the fact that whether phloem necrosis takes place as a primary symptom or a secondary symptom. In all these disease, primary histological changes of hypoplasia and hypertrophy are preceeded by the necrosis of phloem.
Target learning model is not recognized in this category or not classified clearly failed to determine if the vocabulary recognition is reduced. Form of classification learning model is changed or a new learning model is added to the recognition decision tree structure of the model should be changed to a structural problem. In order to solve these problems, a decision tree learning model for classification learning algorithm is proposed. Phonological phenomenon reflected sound enough to configure the database to ensure learning a decision tree learning model for classifying method was used. In this study, the indoor environment-dependent recognition and vocabulary words for the experimental results independent recognition vocabulary of the indoor environment-dependent recognition performance of 98.3% in the experiment showed, vocabulary independent recognition performance of 98.4% in the experiment shown.
The differences in the electron microscopic fine structures of the wing imaginal discs of the vestigial (vg), wing mutant and wild type of Drosophila melanogaster were investigated. The materials used in this study were collected at ten hours intervals from the late third instar larvae of the both stocks. The fine structural changes during differentiation were as follows: 1. In wild type lipid droplets were coalesced and converted to glycogen, while no changes were observed in the mutatn vestigial. 2. Degeneration of the cells by phagocytosis were observed not only from the mutatn vestigial, but from the wild type. However, degenerative feature of the wild type was poor. 3. Dented structures of tracheole showed little differences between wild type and the mutant vestigial. But the tracheole diameter of the wild type became wider in the course of differentiation, while the mutant vestigial narrow. Although mutant vestigial develops normally during early embryogenesis, the late third instar larvae shows defficiency in gluconeogenesis, converting fatty acid to glycogen. This, together with the predominant cell degeneration by phagocytosis and poorly developed tracheole, seems to effect on the expression of the vestigial phenotype.

In this dissertation, a new off-line recognition system is proposed using a subgraph pattern, neural network. After thinning is applied to input characters, balance having a noise elimination function on location is performed. Then as the first step for recognition procedure, circular elements are extracted and recognized. From the subblock HT, space feature points such as endpoint, flex point, bridge point are extracted and a subgraph pattern is formed observing the relations among them. A region where vowel can exist is allocated and a candidate point of the vowel is extracted. Then, using the subgraph pattern dictionary, a vowel is recognized. A same method is applied to extract horizontal vowels and the vowel is recognized through a simple structural analysis. For verification of recognition subgraph in this paper, experiments are done with the most frequently used Myngjo font, Gothic font for printed characters and handwritten characters. In case of Gothic font, character recognition rate was 98.9%. For Myngjo font characters, the recognition rate was 98.2%. For handwritten characters, the recognition rate was 92.5%. The total recognition rate was 94.8% with mixed handwriting and printing characters for multi-font recognition.
