Development of the Practical and Adaptive Three steps Die for Sheet Metal Working(part 1) (Analysis of Production Part and Strip Process Layout Design)

  • The piercing and blanking of thin sheet metal working is specified division in press die design and making. In order to prevent the detects, the optimum design of the production part, strip process layout, die design, die making and try out etc. re necessary the analysis of effective factors. For example, theory and practice of metal shearing process and its phenomena, die structure, machine tool working for die making, die materials and its heat treatment, metal working in industrial and its know how etc. In this study, we analyzed whole of data base, theoretical back ground of metal working process, and then performed the progressive die tryout with the screw press. This study regards to the aim of small quantity of production part's press working. Part 1 of this study reveals with production part and strip process layout design.

  • This paper describes some research works of computer-aided design of blanking and piercing for stator and rotor parts and irregularly shaped sheet metal by press. An approach to the system is based on knowledge based rules. The process planning system by considering a blank layout for nesting of irregularly shaped sheet metal and an improved strip layout for stator and rotor parts and irregularly shaped sheet metal is implemented. Using this system, design parameters(utilization ratio, slitting width, pitch, working order, die blank shapes) are determined and output is generated in graphic forms. Knowledges for blank layout and strip layout are extracted from the plasticity theories, handbooks, relevant references and empirical know-hows of experts in blanking companies. The implemented system provides powerful capabilities for process planning of stator and rotor parts and irregularly shaped sheet metal.

  • This paper describes a research work of developing computer-aided design of a product with bending and piercing for progressive working. An approach to the system for progressive working os based on the knowledge-based rules. Knowledge for the system is formulated from plasticity theorise, experimental results and the empirical knowledge of field experts. the system has been written in AutoLISP on the AutoCAD with a personal computer and is composed of three main modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern layout and strip layout modules. Strip layout of the system is designed by using fuzzy set theory. Process planning is determinated by fuzzy value according to several rules. Strip layout drawing generated in strip layout module is presented in 3-D graphic forms, including bending sequences and piercing processes with punch profiles divided into for external area. Results obtained using the modules enable the manufacturer for progressive working of electric products to be more efficient in this field.

  • 본 논문에서는 액정용 실드 케이스 (Shield Case)의 스트립 레이아웃 도 작성하였다. 프레스 금형에 있어서 스트립 레이아웃 도는 제품 양산을 결정하는 중요 요인이다. 장착되는 다른 부품과의 간섭요인을 용이하게 수정하기 위하여 3D CAD/CAM 시스템을 적용하였다. 블랭크 레이아웃을 최적화하고 광폭배열로 스트립 레이아웃 하여 재료 이용률을 60.17%로 향상시켰다. 또한 얇은 소재두께로 인해 변형 발생이 예상되는 노칭부위에 집중적으로 비딩공정을 추가하여 제품의 평탄도를 요구사항에 맞게 적용하였다. 사용된 3D CAD/CAM 소프트웨어는 Unigraphics NX 3.0이며 12개 공정으로 스트립 레이아웃 도를 작성하였다.

The system has been written in Auto-LISP on the Auto-CAD with a personal computer and is composed of four main modules, which are input and shape treatment, flat pattern layout, strip layout, and die layout modules. The system is designed by considering several factors, such as bending sequences by fuzzy set theory, complexities of blank geometry, punch profiles, and the availability of a press equipment. Strip layout drawing generated in the strip layout module is presented in 3-D graphic forms, including bending sequences and piercing processes with punch profiles divided into for external area. The die layout module carries out die design for each process obtained from the results of the strip layout. Results obtained using the modules enable the manufacturer for progressive working of electric products to be more efficient in this field.

  • The production parts have required multiple processes such as drawing, piercing, blanking and notching etc. are performed with a high production rates in progressive die. In order to prevent the defects of process result, the optimization of strip process layout design, die design, die making, and tryout etc. are needed. According to these factors of die development process, it has been required that the theory and practice of metal working process and its phenomena, die structure, machining conditions for die making, die materials, heat treatment of die components, processing know-how and so on. In this study, we designed and analyzed die components through the carrying out of upper relevant matters also simulated the strip process layout of multiple stage drawing by DEFORM. Especially the result of tryout and its analysis became to the feature of this study with a system of PDDC(Progressive Die design by computer).

테스트워크의 스트립 레이아웃설계에 관한 연구 (A study on the design of layout for test work)

  • Test work is the press die branch at The Korea-China-Japan Grand Prize Contest. This study focuses on strip layout design for test work. A comparison is drawn between product shape and blank deployment line. During the forming analysis of the whole product, shape part of the total forming process is analyzed. As for forming part and flange deployment, forming analysis is carried out in part during the mid process. Material utilization is 42.6 percent and strip layout design is completed in 14 processes that are comprised of hourglass, slotting, embossing, drawing and trimming.
