Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing drinking problems in female university students to provide basic data for a nursing intervention program to improve health and prevent drinking problems. Method: Data were collected from September 17 to 21, 2007 through a questionnaire survey of 325 female college students in G City. Collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The most powerful predictor of drinking problems was refusal self efficacy. The combination of the influence of friends, perceived stress, personality of novelty seeking, and alcohol expectancy accounted for 23.7% of the variance in drinking problems. Conclusion: From the results, I recommend that refusal self efficacy, influence of friends, perceived stress, personality of novelty seeking, and alcohol expectancy should be contained in developing nursing intervention programs for preventing drinking problems in female university students.
The term stress is currently used to cover a wide variety of phenomena, ranging from physical to social and cultural factors. The term has defined psychological stress as an imbalance between perceived or subjective demand and perceived response capability. The behavior science model has provided the accident proneness through the life change unit factors considering human behavior, life style, ideas, culture, and psychological state. Therefore, this paper presents the Korean life change unit model through statistical testing with the proposed life change unit factors on the unmarried workers living in the middle area. The proposed model can be simply used in real fields in order to minimize the industrial accidents.

Objectives: Given that Argentinian public-sector workers are highly exposed to stressful conditions, and that the psychometric properties of the widely used Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) should be evaluated in different settings, this work aimed to compare the psychometric properties of the Latin American Spanish PSS-10 and PSS-4 and to identify the optimal scale for stress assessment. Methods: A sample of 535 participants was randomly divided into 2 groups to evaluate dimensionality by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. The reliability of both scales was also evaluated. Convergent validity was estimated using the Executive Complaints Questionnaire, the average variance extracted, and the composite reliability. Discriminant validity was based on the correlation with the Utrecht Work Engagement Scale and the phi-square correlation between the components. Results: The factor analyses supported bidimensionality of the PSS-10 (stress and coping), which showed a better fit than the PSS-4. Moreover, the reliability of the PSS-10 was higher, whereas the PSS-4 did not achieve adequate values of internal consistency. The PSS-10 was also correlated significantly with all validation scales, and presented proper internal convergent and divergent validity. Conclusions: The PSS-10 is a reliable and structurally valid instrument to measure perceived stress and coping in a Latin American Spanish-speaking population with high work demands, and the findings of this study expand our knowledge on the geographical and sociocultural applicability of the PSS.
The purpose of this study was to describe the relationship between family stress and adaptation in families with a disabled child through literature review using McCubbin's Double ABCX family crisis framework. The literature review focused on (1) family stress and factors affecting family stress, (2) the critical individual, familial and social resources which families acquire and employ over time in managing crisis situation. (3) the changes in definition and meaning families develop in an effort to make sense out of their predicament. (4) the coping strategies families employ. and (5) the range of outcomes of these family efforts The results showed that families reported financial difficulties and the burden of care-giving demands as major family stressors. Siblings of disabled children manifested depressive symptoms and social isolation. but was not consistent study results. The parents' views of the cause of the disabling condition fundamentally affected their behavior toward their disabled child. Especially. the fathers' views of the child's characteristics made the greatest contribution to positive changes in the mothers' perceptions. The term perceived social support refers to the cognitive appraisal by individuals that they are cared for and valued, that significant others are available to them if needed, and that they are satisfied with their interpersonal relationships. The perceived social support was more protective than social support source. network size and network density. Parental adaptation was found to be related to the child's communication competence rather than family coping strategies proposed by Lazarus and Folkman. One study results showed that there was no difference in depressive symptoms and physical health between mothers with a disabled child and those without all though mothers with a disabled child had negative attitudes and perceived themselves as having significantly less social support and lower family functioning. But a longitudinal study revealed decreases in the negative impact of the child and increases in sibling and overall family adaptation.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to understand health-promotion behaviors and to find factors associated with the behaviors among Korean-Chinese workers who live in Korea. Methods: The number of Korean-Chinese workers participated in this study was 187, and the sample was chosen using a convenient sampling method. To understand general characteristics, frequencies and percentages were utilized. To examine the seven categories of health-promotion behavior, their average scores were calculated. To explore factors related to health-promotion behaviors, a multiple stepwise regression analysis was performed. Independent variables used for the analysis were self-concept, social support, stress, perceived health status, and demographics. Results: The average score of the seven health-promotion behaviors was 2.35. Of the seven subcategories of health-promotion behaviors, the scores of rest/sleep and self-actualization were relatively higher; the scores of exercise and stress management were relatively lower. Of demographics and four factors of main interest (i.e., self-concept, social support, stress, perceived health status), education level, types of residence, social support, and perceived health status remained statistically significant. Among the four factors, social support had the greatest impact on health-promotion behaviors. Conclusions: This study has two suggestions. First, it is needed to develop strategies, which can help Korean-Chinese workers enhance levels of health-promotion behaviors regarding stress management and exercise. Second, considering the greatest effect of social support on health-promotion behavior, it is necessary to strengthen social support among Korean-Chinese workers.
The aim of the study was to examine the effects of the five-sensory horticulture therapy on perceived stress and HRV in adults with depression. The participants were 26 (experimental group=13, control group=13) adult with depression and enrolled in the Regional C mental health welfare center from April to June 2018. The experimental group participated in a total of 8-session five sensory horticultural therapy once a week, and the control group provided horticultural therapy once to the desired subjects after the program. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and Mann-Whitney U test. There were statistically significant change in perceived stress (t = 3.11, p = .005), LF (t = -3.39, p = .002) and SDNN (t = -2.48, p = .025) in experimental group compared to the control group. Therefore, this therapy was effective for reduction of stress among individuals with the depressive disorder.

This study explores how the COVID-19 pandemic has changed family life and relationships as well as how these changes affect perceived stress among married men and women. This study investigated changes in family time use, household work, child care, leisure activities, income and expenditures along with relationships between spouses and children using a sample of 627 married persons surveyed online from May 19 to 25, 2020. The results showed that the amount of time spent on household work, child care, and family leisure have increased and that the perceived burden of household work and child care has also increased. Gender differences were found in time use, household work, and child care. Leisure activities have changed toward more time watching TV or online media and playing online games and less time on outdoor activities, shopping, and meeting friends. About 38% of respondents reported a reduction in household income and 22% reported an increase in household debt. The majority experienced no change in the quality of relationships with spouses and children, approximately 20% of the sample reported a positive change in relationships with spouses and children. The findings of multivariate regression indicated that change in work time, negative change in household economy, negative change in household work and negative change in relationships with spouses were associated with marital stress. However, this study found that negative changes in child care and in relationships with children did not affect stress among married parents with children in elementary or secondary school.
Purpose: To investigate the degree and sources of stress which fathers of infants in NICU experience. Method: Eighty-five fathers of NICU infants at 5 university hospitals in Seoul volunteered to complete the Parental Stressor Scale for NICU (PSS: NICU) from September 1, to October 15, 2002. Result: Total perceived stress was 3.50±0.76. The highest score were in Parental Role Alteration (3.76±0.83) and Appearance and Behavior (3.65±1.04). The total perceived stress score (PSS), correlated significantly with method (t=3.50, p=.01), and route (F=5.30, p=.00) of feeding. Light & Sound correlated significantly with birth weight (F=3.39, p=.02), medical diagnosis(F=2.30, p=.03), plan of operation(t=2.50, p=.01), operation (t=3.80, p=.02), method (F=4.90, p=.003), and route (F=4.70, p=.00) of feeding. Infant Appearance and Behavior correlated significantly with birth weight (F=5.12, p=.01), plan of operation (t=2.50, p=.01), method (F=3.50, p=.01), and route (F=7.80, p=.00) of feeding. Parental Role Alteration correlated significantly with care of incubator (t=-.68, p=.03), method of feeding (F=2.80, p=.04) and education level of father (F=3.00, p=.05). Conclusion: Father with NICU infants were concerned mostly with parental role alteration and infant appearance. Nursing intervention should include fathers of NICU infants.
This study investigated the differences of perceived parenting attitude and academic stress on smartphone addiction according to the classification of addiction-risk group among middle school students. A descriptive research design was used. The subjects were 358 middle school students from five middle school in Daegu. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, ${\chi}^2$ test, t-test, and stepwise multiple regression using SPSS 18.0. Smartphone addiction-risk group was 97(27.0%) and general group was 261(72.9%). Smartphone addiction-risk group was more negatively perceived parenting attitude and higher academic stress than the general group. The most influential factors on addiction-risk group was using time in a day(${\beta}=.29.4$, p=.003) and general group was academic stress(${\beta}=.298$, p=.000). It is important to develop an intervention program to prevention the smartphone addiction according to the classification of addiction-risk group.
