  • Chronic patients and staffs in healthcare facilities cannot avoid long-term stays indoors. Therefore, they need to get adequate amounts of sunlight to prevent diseases caused by vitamin D deficiency. This is a case study on the advanced daylighting systems installed to healthcare facilities for therapeutic environments as serving natural light therapy and a pleasant atmosphere. This paper shows daylighting devices that overcome the structural limits of architectural design solutions for inducing natural light. This study presents appropriate daylighting technologies to the purpose and types of healthcare facilities by analyzing therapeutic environmental factors. Natural light delivered through daylighting devices help directly patients recover. In addition, it can improve healthcare providers' performance and productivity, and reduce their errors, thereby creating therapeutic environments for patients, indirectly. Excellent color rendering of solar illumination is also a powerful tool for navigation and wayfinding in the buildings, and for aesthetic treatment in dental office. Furthermore, daylighting systems are streamlined and require the least material and space to attract sunlight up to the deeper inside. But because of expensive cost, they have not yet been widespread. Though daylighting devices are typically more expensive than artificial illuminations to install, the running cost savings can compensate for the initial installation cost. With the development of technology in the future, the market price of them is expected to be formed properly.

  • Printing process has been a major sector in the textile industries for a long period of time. With the advent of digital textile printing, the complex procedures of printing preparations and after-treatment processes have been streamlined. For the design of the motives of images to be printed, the use of image handling software, e.g. Photoshop(Adobe), has been of prime importance. Even though the software is extremely useful and functionally versatile, there are many laborious steps involved for the specific textile printing process. The use of a CAD-based textile printing function may help the textile printing process in streamlining the complex processing stages. The image qualities of the output designs have been compared objectively with the aid of several image similarity evaluation schemes including the SSIM, and FSIM Index methods.

  • Investigation of flow characteristics behind a edged backward facing step is important for selecting appropriate positions of building constructions in the desert area. In the present study, the effect of edge angles on the flow characteristics is investigated using a commercial software CFD-ACE+. When the edge angle is less than 30 degree, reattachment length decreases, whereas when the edge angle is larger than 30 degrees, reattachment angle increases. It can be concluded that the flow patterns behind an edged backward facing step is classified as the two, streamlined and bluffed bodies. Appropriate edge angles have an effect of increasing the momentum toward the wall, which can reduce the reattachment length. It can be said that present results can be utilized for diverse industrial applications that includes the backward facing step.

  • The dilemma regarding the management of condylar fractures generally revolves around the surgical approach, implant design, and the surgeon's experience. Zide and Kent's guidelines streamlined the decision making process for condylar fractures. However, there exists no standardized protocol for reduction and fixation of condylar fractures. Here, we have described a detailed and stepwise protocol, common to any surgical approach, that would lead to predictable, reproducible, and repeatable results in every surgeon's hands.

  • In this study, the behavior of water droplets on a solid-infused surface was evaluated by quantifying a water droplet's contact angle, sliding angle, and terminal velocity. The contact angle hysteresis and sliding angle of water on the solid-infused surface were measured to be lower than those of the hydrophobic PTFE surface. It led to the enhancement of the initiation of the water droplet's movement. When the capillary number was lower than Ca < 0.004, the terminal velocity of the water droplet on the solid-infused surface was higher than the PTFE surface due to the low contact line resistance. However, the transition of the droplet morphology from a hemispherical shape to a streamlined teardrop shape beyond Ca > 0.004 lost the effect of reducing frictional resistance on the solid-infused surface.

  • In this paper, structural behavior under fire conditions is comprehensively examined, and a novel software interface for testing interfaces efficiently is developed and validated. In order to accurately assess the response of structures to fire scenarios, advanced simulation techniques and modeling approaches are incorporated into the study. This interface enables accurate heat transfer analysis and thermo-mechanical simulations by integrating software tools such as CSI ETABS, CSI SAP2000, and OpenSees. Heat transfer models can be automatically generated, simulation outputs processed, and structural responses interpreted under a variety of fire scenarios using the proposed technique. As a result of rigorous testing and validation against established methods, including Cardington tests on scales and hybrid simulation approaches, the software interface has been proven to be effective and accurate. The analysis process is streamlined by this interface, providing engineers and researchers with a robust tool for assessing structural performance under fire conditions.

  • This study has designed and evaluated the safety of watertight damper for Offshore Rigs. The watertight damper is an improved design for conventional DN 350 butterfly valve. Numerical analysis has been performed to investigate the safety factor and seat leakage of the designed 3-type disk dampers. The structure analysis results present the deformations, the equivalent stresses and the safety factor. It was confirmed that the designed disk, rib-disk and streamlined disk of watertight damper are safe enough in maximum operating pressure of 0.98MPa. The results show that the disk damper had the smallest maximum deformations and stress among 3-type disk dampers and the safety factor was 4.3. Therefore it is confirmed that the disk damper has the most excellent strength. Also linear static structural analysis was individually conducted for disk and body. The results show that the maximum disk deformation was larger than the body deformation, Therefore the disk damper is causes no seat leakage.
