  • Recently, the standardization of SVC technology which can provide adaptive video quality in diverse service environments has been completed. This paper proposes a layered encryption technique which takes into account the prioritized layer characteristics of SVC and control constant encryption complexity satisfying the target computational complexity. In particular, it analyzes the importance of NAL unit in the SVC video layer and suggests a method to apply appropriate encryption complexity proper for it. The effectiveness of the proposed method is proved through the comparison of time required for encryption and the reconstructed video quality using imperfect decryption key.

  • In this paper, a novel transmission system based on ATSC-M/H is proposed that enables free broadcast content services and pay subscription based content services. The proposed system is compatible with the existing systems and it does not use complex access restriction mechanisms such as CAS. In North America, many DLNA systems use set-top boxes with DVR as a digital media server. A method to enable the provision for ATSC-M/H free and pay subscription services on DLNA systems is presented. In addition, a data service processing method in DLNA systems is also proposed.

  • A potential based panel method is used to predict the open water characteristics of spade-type rudders. The inflow velocity is assumed to be constant in lime and uniform in space. Source and dipole are distributed on the rudder surface. It is assumed that the wake surface is streaming from trailing edge and it is represented by dipole distribution. In this paper, wake geometry is assumed by imposing appropriate conditions at the trailing edge and far from the body. The effects of wake geometry are studied. The pressure Kutta condition is applied at the trailing edge, the effects of which are compared with those of two-dimensional Kutta condition. The results of calculations for a spade-type rudder are compared with published results. It is concluded that this approach shows fairly good agreement with experimental results and can be used in the initial design stage of a rudder.

  • Small amplitude in-phase oscillations of multi-cylinders are considered both numerically and experimentally. Flow field is separated into inner and outer regions. The basic unsteady solution is obtained analytically and the secondary flow, termed as steady streaming flow, can be obtained numerically by using Finite Volume Code with Panel Method. The Particle Induced Velocimetry, one of whole field measurements, is introduced for comparison with numerical flow visualization quantitatively. Among the algorithms for PIV, the Three Step Vector Searching Technique is applied to reduce CPU time. Small but non-zero damping coefficient, that is important in lightly damped system can be obtained with varying number of bodies and distances.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient rate control scheme based on the received power level to overcome a quality degradation of video under time varying channel condition caused by the movement of mobile devices. First, we statistically obtain the relation between the PLR and the received power level. With this information and the sequences of received power level, we calculate the transition probability for the Markov Channel Model. Then, with using Markov chain rule, we obtain the probability where the channel condition remains in a good state and finally find the efficient target bit rate by multiplying it by the offered bandwidth when the network access has begun. We use TMN8 to adjust the bit rate to our proposed outcome. Experimental results show that the proposed method can efficiently enhance the video quality and provide better PSNR performance than with only using TMN8 rate control method.

  • Several studies have focused on multimedia transmission over wireless sensor networks (WSNs). In this paper, we propose a comprehensive and robust model to transmit images over cognitive radio WSNs (CRWSNs). We estimate the spectrum sensing frequency and evaluate its impact on the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). To enhance the PSNR, we attempt to maximize the number of pixels delivered to the receiver. To increase the probability of successful image transmission within the maximum allowed time, we minimize the average number of packets remaining in the send buffer. We use both single- and multi-channel transmissions by focusing on critical transmission events, namely hand-off (HO), No-HO, and timeout events. We deploy our advanced updating method, the dynamic parameter updating procedure, to guarantee the dynamic adaptation of model parameters to the events. In addition, we introduce our ranking method, named minimum remaining packet best channel selection, to enable us to rank and select the best channel to improve the system performance. Finally, we show the capability of our proposed image scrambling and filtering approach to achieve noticeable PSNR improvement.

  • As the number of social network users increases, the information on event such as social issues and disasters receiving attention in each region is promptly posted by the bucket through social media site in real time, and its social ripple effect becomes huge. This study proposes a detection method of events that draw attention from users in specific region at specific time by using twitter data with regional information. In order to collect Twitter data, we use Twitter Streaming API. After collecting data, We implemented event detection system by analyze the frequency of a keyword which contained in a twit in a particular time and clustering the keywords that describes same event by exploiting keywords' co-occurrence graph. Finally, we evaluates the validity of our method through experiments.

  • S-MAC is hybrids of CSMA and TDMA approaches that use local sleep-wake schedules to coordinate packet exchanges and reduce idle listening. In this method, all the nodes are considered with equal priority which may lead to increased delay during heavy traffic. The method introduced in this paper provides high throughput and small end-to-end delay suitable for applications such as real-time voice streaming and its functionality is independent of underlying synchronization protocol. The novel idea behind our scheme is that it uses the priority concept with (m,k)-firm scheduling in order to achieve its objectives. The performance of our scheme is obtained through simulations for various packet sizes, traffic loads which show significant improvements in packet delivery ratio, and delay compared to existing protocols.

  • Video services over Internet is getting important. Since the service quality of the video service provided by streaming over Internet may be degraded, the quality assessment and management are very important. Currently the objective method based on the measured values of parameters is being widely used for video services. The subjective assessment, however, is more ideal in that the quality that is experienced by human. This paper, therefore, proposes a subjective quality management scheme for video service in a mobile environment that overcomes the limitations of the subjective method. The proposed scheme is expected to contribute to implement a more efficient quality management system for video services in a mobile environment.
