It is reported that factors affecting the behavior of reinforced earth retaining walls built on soft ground are not only basic physical properties but also the increase of load by the reinforced earth retaining walls, consolidation period, pore water pressure, etc. This study analyzed the behavior of reinforced earth retaining walls and soft ground using SAGE CRISP, a ground analysis program. First, we examined the effect of the replacement method, which was to prevent the excessive displacement of reinforced earth retaining walls, in improving the behavior of the walls. Second, we compared and analyzed how the behavior of ground is affected by the vertical interval of stiffeners on the back of reinforced earth retaining walls after the application of the replacement method. Lastly, we proposed the optimal replacement width and depth in the application of the replacement method. The results of this study proved that the replacement method is considerably effective in improving the behavior of reinforced earth retaining walls. In addition, the vertical interval of stiffeners on the back of reinforced earth retaining walls appeared effective in improving the horizontal displacement of the top of retaining walls but not much effective in improving the vertical displacement of the back of retaining walls. In addition, improvement in horizontal-vertical displacement resulting from the increase in replacement width was not significant and this suggests that the increase of replacement width is not necessary. With regard to an adequate replacement depth, we proposed the ratio of replacement depth to the height of retaining walls(D/H) according to the ratio of the thickness of the soft layer to the height of retaining walls(H/T).
Nonlinear soil behavior before failure under dynamic loading is often implemented in a numerical analysis code by a mathematical fitting function model with Masing's rule. However, the model may show different behavior with an experimental results obtained from laboratory test in damping ratio corresponding secant shear modulus for a certain shear strain rage. The difference may come from an unique soil characteristics which is unable to implement by using the existing mathematical fitting model. As of now, several fitting models have been suggested to overcome the difference between model and real soil behavior but consequence of the difference in dynamic analysis is not reviewed yet. In this paper, the effect of the difference on site response was examined through nonlinear response history analysis. The analysis was verified and calibrated with well defined dynamic geotechnical centrifuge test. Site response analyses were performed with three mathematical fitting function models and compared with the centrifuge test results in prototype scale. The errors on peak ground acceleration between analysis and experiment getting increased as increasing the intensity of the input motion. In practical point of view, the analysis results of accuracy with the fitting model is not significant in low to mid input motion intensity.
Mireuksa is a temple that was established in the Baekjea Period and continued around to the 16thcentury. The sites of the temple throughout diverse periods such as the United Shilla Period, KoryuPeriod, and Chosun Period including the one of the early temple in the late Baekjea Period were discovered. In those temple sites, there were lots of diverse artifacts discovered including artifacts in the Bronze Age. In this study, the compositions of four bronze bells excavated from Mireuksa site in Iksan were analyzed and the manufacturing technique of bronze bells was studied through the observation of microstructure. Also, the analytical cases of ancient bronze bells were collected and compared. Furthermore, the provenance study of the bronze bells site was attempted with the Pbisotope ratio. The results aim to offer crucial keys for discovering the aspect of society as well as information about the origin, development, and the route of propagation of ancient technologies. Bronze bell No. 1 showed an unexpected composition as Cu was found 98.5% in it. There were shown twins which were created by annealing and an even phase in the fine grains. It was also shown that bronze bell No. 2 and 4 had a high content of Pb although they showed a similar composition with general bronze bells in terms of Sn content. As shown in the analysis characteristics table of Korean bronze bell of this study, the ancient bronze bell used Pb of which content was limited to 2.12% in general, however, the results showed 15.5% and 13.2% respectively, which is an excessive amount. Asa result of analyzing inclusion in the microstructure of bronze bell No. 2, it was found that sulfide group mineral was used since there appeared S(14.55%). Also, it was proven that $CuFeS_2$ or$Cu_5FeS_4$ was used as a raw material because there was a small amount of Fe. As a result of analyzing inclusion of bronze bell No. 4, the bronze bell sample contained S(13.43%) and it is thought that sulfide group mineral was used, however, it had no Fe. Therefore, it is not connected to $CuFeS_2$ which is the main mineral of Korea. In addition, a strain line was shown with processing in bronze bell No. 2 and 4. As a result of provenance study of bronze bell No. 2 and 4 using the Pb isotope ratio, they or their raw materials are estimated to come from the southern China. Bronze bell No. 3 showed only Cu and Sn, and it is featured with a relatively low amount of Sn(6.63%). The microstructure has only phase, andintergranular corrosion was highly in progress.

Two experiments, utilizing 204 broiler chicks of the Maniker strain, were conducted to study the effects of dried whey and chitin on the growth of chicks. In the first experiment, diets containing 5%, 10%, or 15% dried whey, or a control diet with no whey, were fed to chicks from 1 day to 4 weeks of age. There were no significant differences among the dietary groups, with respect to the rate of growth or protein or feed efficiency. In the second experiment, chicks were fed with diets containing no whey, 2% chitin, 20% dried whey, or 20% dried whey plus 2% chitin, from 1 day to 4 weeks of age. Adverse effects (diarrhea, crooked toes and enlarged cecum) were observed in the group fed 20% dried whey. The protein efficiency ratio (PER) and feed efficiency ratio (FER) tended to improve in the dietary groups with dried whey, as compared to the control group. No significant differences were observed in the total carcass nitrogen and lipid levels of dietary groups. But the chitin-supplemented diets tended to improve on the growth rate compared to the groups without chitin. The results of the two experiments suggest that the growing broiler chick can tolerate up to 15% dried whey in the diet, without any harmful effect on growth. Also, chitin may improve the poorer growth rate of chicks fed dried whey, but not all of the adverse effects of whey.

A three-dimensional (3-D) method of analysis is presented for determining the free vibration frequencies of thick, hyperboloidal shells of revolution. Unlike conventional shell theories, which are mathematically two-dimensional (2-D), the present method is based upon the 3-D dynamic equations of elasticity. Displacement components u/sub r/, u/sub θ/, u/sub z/ in the radial, circumferential, and axial directions, respectively, we taken to be sinusoidal in time, periodic in θ, and algebraic polynomials in the r and z directions. Potential(strain) and kinetic energies of the hyperboloidal shells are formulated, and the Ritz method is used to solve the eigenvalue problem, thus yielding upper bound values of the frequencies by minimizing the frequencies. As the degree of the polynomials is increased, frequencies converge to the exact values. Convergence to four digit exactitude is demonstrated for the first five frequencies of the hyperboloidal shells of revolution. Numerical results are tabulated for eighteen configurations of completely free hyperboloidal shells of revolution having two different shell thickness ratios, three variant axis ratios, and three types of shell height ratios. Poisson's ratio (ν) is fixed at 0.3. Comparisons we made among the frequencies for these hyperboloidal shells and ones which ate cylindrical or nearly cylindrical( small meridional curvature. ) The method is applicable to thin hyperboloidal shells, as well as thick and very thick ones.

In general, the large loads which are applied from explosion, impact, earthquake and wind at a short time caused the materials of structures to large deformations, rotations and strains locally. If such phenomena will be analyzed, hydrocodes which can be considered fluid-structure interaction under computational continuum mechanics are inevitably needed. Also, the explosion mechanism is so complicated, it is reasonable that the behaviors of structure are predicted through explosion analyses and experiment at the same time. But, unfortunately, it is true that explosion experiments are limited to huge cost, large experiment facilities and safety problems. Therefore, in this study, it is shown that the results of explosion analyses using the AUTODYN are agreed with those of existing explosion experiments for reinforced concrete slabs within reasonable error limits. And the explosion damage of the same reinforced concrete slab are assessed for quite different reinforcement arrangement spacings, concrete cover depths, and vertical reinforcements. From the explosion analyses, it is known that the more the ratio of slab thickness to reinforcement arrangement spacing is increased, and small-diameter reinforcements are used than large-diameter reinforcements on the same reinforcement ratio, and vertical reinforcements are used, the more the anti-knock capacities are improved.

In this study, to examine the causes of cracks in continuously reinforced concrete tracks (CRCTs) and the main factors affecting cracking, a field survey on the status of cracks and crack patterns in the Gyeong-bu high speed line was conducted, and the crack patterns of CRCT due to the temperature difference between the top of the slab (TCL) and the bottom of the subbase (HSB) and the drying shrinkage of concrete were predicted by a nonlinear finite element model considering the structure of CRCT. The results of the numerical analysis show that cracks will be developed at the interface between the sleeper and the TCL, and under the sleeper due to the temperature difference and concrete shrinkage. This corresponds well to the crack locations found in the field. Also, it is found that the most significant factors are the coefficient of thermal expansion with respect to the temperature difference, and the drying shrinkage strain with respect to shrinkage. According to the results, the reinforcement ratio should be carefully determined considering the structures of CRCT because the crack spacing is not always proportional to the reinforcement ratio due to the sleepers embedded in the TCL.
Although the soil nailing method is generally used as a gravity grouting, the development and application of pressurized grouting method has recently increased to address the problem of joint generation and filling due to grouting. Pressurized grouting of the soil nailing method is generally used in combination with ordinary portland cement and water. In the field, the cement is mixed with the rapid setting cement to reduce curing time because ordinary portland cement takes more than 10 days to satisfy the required strength. In this study, uniaxial compression tests and laboratory tests were carried out to confirm the efficiency of the grouting material according to the mixing ratio of rapid setting cement. The mixing ratio of 30% grouting satisfies the required strength within 7 days and satisfies the optimum gel time. As a result of the laboratory test with granite weathered soil, the reinforcing effect was confirmed to be 1.5 times as compared with the gravity type at an injection time of 10 seconds and a strain of 15%. The friction resistance increases linearly with the increase of the injection time, but it is confirmed that the friction resistance decreases due to the hydraulic fracturing effect at the injection time exceeding the limit injection pressure. Numerical analysis was performed to compare the stability of slopes not reinforced with slopes reinforced with gravity and pressurized soil nailing.

When reinforced concrete structures are exposed to fire, their mechanical properties such as compressive strength, elasticity coefficient and rebar yield strength, are degraded. Therefore, the structure's damage assessment is essential in determining whether to dismantle or augment the structure after a fire. In this study, the confinement effect of lateral reinforcement of RC column according to the numbers of fire exposure face and stirrup was verified by fire resistant test with the heating temperatures of $400^{\circ}C$, $600^{\circ}C$ and $800^{\circ}C$. The test results showed that the peak stress decreases and peak strain increases as the temperature is getting higher, also transverse ties are helpful in improving the compressive resistance of concrete subjected to high temperature. Based on the results of this study, the residual stress of confined concrete under thermal damage is higher at the condition of more lateral reinforcement ratio and less fire exposure faces. The decreasing ratio of elastic modulus of more confined and less exposure faces from the relationship of load and displacement was also smaller than that of opposite conditions.
In this article, free vibration behavior of electro-magneto-thermo sandwich Timoshenko beam made of porous core and Graphene Platelet Reinforced Composite (GPLRC) in a thermal environment is investigated. The governing equations of motion are derived by using the modified strain gradient theory for micro structures and Hamilton's principle. The magneto electro are under linear function along the thickness that contains magnetic and electric constant potentials and a cosine function. The effects of material length scale parameters, temperature change, various distributions of porous, different distributions of graphene platelets and thickness ratio on the natural frequency of Timoshenko beam are analyzed. The results show that an increase in aspect ratio, the temperature change, and the thickness of GPL leads to reduce the natural frequency; while vice versa for porous coefficient, volume fractions and length of GPL. Moreover, the effect of different size-dependent theories such as CT, MCST and MSGT on the natural frequency is investigated. It reveals that MSGT and CT have most and lowest values of natural frequency, respectively, because MSGT leads to increase the stiffness of micro Timoshenko sandwich beam by considering three material length scale parameters. It is seen that by increasing porosity coefficient, the natural frequency increases because both stiffness and mass matrices decreases, but the effect of reduction of mass matrix is more than stiffness matrix. Considering the piezo magneto-electric layers lead to enhance the stiffness of a micro beam, thus the natural frequency increases. It can be seen that with increasing of the value of WGPL, the stiffness of microbeam increases. As a result, the value of natural frequency enhances. It is shown that in hc/h = 0.7, the natural frequency for WGPL = 0.05 is 8% and 14% less than its for WGPL = 0.06 and WGPL = 0.07, respectively. The results show that with an increment in the length and width of GPLs, the natural frequency increases because the stiffness of micro structures enhances and vice versa for thickness of GPLs. It can be seen that the natural frequency for aGPL = 25 ㎛ and hc/h = 0.6 is 0.3% and 1% more than the one for aGPL = 5 ㎛ and aGPL = 1 ㎛, respectively.
