A two-dimensional direct numerical simulation is performed to investigate the flame structure of $CH_4/N_2-Air$ counterflow nonpremixed flame interacting with a single vortex. The detailed transport properties and a modified 16-step augmented reduced mechanism based on Miller and Bowman#s detailed reaction mechanism are adopted in this calculation. To quantify the strain on flame induced by a vortex, a scalar dissipation rate (SDR) is introduced. The results show that fuel-side and air-side vortex cause an unsteady extinction. In this case, the flame interacting with a vortex is extinguished at much larger SDR than steady flame. It is also found that air-side vortex extinguishes a flame more rapidly than fuel-side vortex. The unsteady effect induced by flame-vortex interaction does not lead to a transient OH overshoot of the maximum steady concentration observed in experiment, while $HO_2$ radical increases more than the maximum steady concentration with increasing SDR. In addition, it is seen that NO and $NO_2$ are not sensitive to the unsteady variation of SDR.

Durability of rubber dust cover in the ball joint for automotive suspension parts is analyzed by FEM and compared with experimental data. Upper open area of ball joint is sealed by dust cover for preventing outflow of the lubricating oil and intrusion of send, dust, water, etc. This rubber cover undergoes repeated loadings such as tension and compression while the car is running. Analysis about rubber material needs to consider every kinds of nonlinearities arise in finite element analysis, which are geometric nonlinearity due to large displacement and small strain, materially nonlinearity and nonlinear boundary condition such as contact. The deformation behavior of dust cover is analysed by using the commercial finite element program MARC. In the study, this program could solve these kinds of nonlinear analysis accurately. Finite element model of dust cover is considered as 3-dimensional half model based on 2-dimensional axisymmetric model. Material property of rubber is modeled by Ogden model and input data for calculation takes form uniaxial tension test of rubber specimen. The final object of the study is obtaining the design specification of dust covers and the result of analysis should be a useful data to design of rubber cover.

In this study, the physically-based failure models for matrix and fibers in compression and tension loading are introduced. For the 3D stress based fiber kinking model a modification is proposed for calculation of the fiber misalignment angle. All of these models are implemented into the finite element code by using the advantage of damage variable and the numerical results are discussed. To investigate the matrix failure model, purely in-plane transverse compression experiments are carried out on the specimens made by Glass/Epoxy to obtain the fracture surface angle and then a comparison is made with the calculated numerical results. Furthermore, shear failure of $({\pm}45)_s$ model is investigated and the obtained numerical results are discussed and compared with available experimental results. Some experiments are also carried out on the woven laminated composites to investigate the fracture pattern in the matrix failure mode and shown that the presented matrix failure model can be used for the woven composites. Finally, the obtained numerical results for stress based fiber kinking model and improved ones (strain based model) are discussed and compared with each other and with the available results. The results show that these models can predict the kink band angle approximately.
This study proposed a new type of concrete column that was confined with both steel angles and spiral hoops, named angle-steel and spiral confined concrete (ASCC) column. A total of 22 ASCC stub columns were tested under axial compression to investigate their behavior. For a comparison, three angle-steel reinforced concrete (ARC) stub columns were also tested. The test results indicated that ASCC column had a superior mechanical performance. The strength, ductility and energy absorption were considerably increased due to the improvement of confinement from spiral hoops. The confinement behavior and failure mechanism of ASCC column were investigated by the analysis of failure mode, load-deformation curve and section-strain distribution. Parametric studies were carried out to examine the influences of different parameters on the axial compression behavior of ASCC columns. A calculation approach was developed to predict the ultimate load carrying capacity of ASCC columns under axial compression. It was validated that the predicted results were in well agreement with the experimental results.

In numerical analysis for hydroforming process, the stress calculation is effected by flow stress which is general obtained by stress-strain relationship from uni-axial tension test, so the result of the analysis, especially in tube hydroforming, has limitation of accuracy, tubes are made in roll-forming process and become work-hardened. Then roll forming process causes material properties between rolling direction and circumstantial direction of the tube to be different. So it is difficult to predict material behavior in the process condition of bi-axial stress state. In this study, the flow stress of the tube is determined by inverse engineering approach and bulge test that is widely used for formability test in the condition of bi-axial stress. And Hill's quadratic yield function and flow rule are used to consider the anisotropy of the tube in the roll forming process.

Finite element analysis using modern constitutive equation is one of the most general tools to simulate the deformation behavior and to predict the life of the structure. Constitutive equation becomes complicated so as to predict the material behavior more accurately than the classical models. Because of the complexity of constitutive model, numerical treatment becomes so difficult that the calculation should be verified carefully. One-element tests, simple tension or simple shear, are usually used to verify the accuracy of finite element analysis using complicated constitutive model. Since this test is mainly focused on the time integration scheme, it is also necessary to verify the equilibrium iteration using material stiffness matrix and to compare FE results with solution of structures. In this investigation, viscoplastic solution of thick walled cylinder was derived considering axial constraints and was compared with the finite element analysis. All the numerical solutions showed a good coincidence with FE results. This numerical solution can be used as a verification tool for newly developed FE code with complicated constitutive model.
Computational models for analyzing the in-reactor behavior of metallic fuel pins under transient conditions in liquid-metal reactors are developed and implemented in the TRAMAC (TRAnsient thermo-Mechanical Analysis Code) for a metal fuel rod under transient operation conditions. Not only the basic models for a fuel rod performance but also some sub-models used for transient condition are installed in TRAMAC. Among the models, a fission gas release model, which takes the multi-bubble size distribution into account to characterize the lenticular bubble shape and the saturation condition on the grain boundary and the cladding deformation model have been developed based mainly on the existing models in the MAC-SIS code. Finally, cladding strains are calculated from the amount of thermal creep, irradiation creep, and irradiation swelling. The cladding strain model in TRAMAC predicts well the absolute magnitudes and gen-eral trends of their predictions compared with those of experimental data. TRAMAC results for the FH-1,2,6 pins are more conservative than experimental data and relatively reasonable than those of FPIN2 code. From the calculation results of TRAMAC, it is apparent that the code is capable of predicting fission gas release, and cladding deformation for LMR metal fuel finder transient operation conditions. The results show that in general, the predictions of TRAMAC agree well with the available irradiation data.

A new forming technology has been developed to fabricate near-net shape components by using aluminum alloys with globular microstructure. The estimations of filling characteristic in the forging simulation with arbitrarily shaped dies of SSM are calculated by finite element method with proposed algorithm. The proposed model and various boundary conditions for arbitrarily shaped die are investigated with the coupling calculation between the liquid phase flow and the solid phase deformation. The simulation processes with arbitrarily shaped dies are performed on the isothermal conditions and axisymmetric problems. To analyze the forging process simulation with SSM, new stress-strain relationship for semi-solid behaviour is described, and forging the liquid flow. Furthermore, For the purpose of getting net shape of SSM, it is important to be obtain a solid fraction in forging process with arbitrarily shaped dies. To produce a automotive part which have good mechanical properties, the filling pattern in accordance with die velocity and solid fraction distribution has to be estimated for arbitrarily shaped die.
The calculation of active earth pressure behind retaining wall is a typical three-dimensional (3D) problem with spatial effects. With the help of limit analysis, this paper firstly deduces the internal energy dissipation power equations and various external forces power equations of the 3D retaining wall under the nonlinear strength condition, such as to establish the work-energy balance equation. The pseudo-static method is used to consider the effect of earthquake on active earth pressure in horizontal state. The failure mode is a 3D curvilinear cone failure mechanism. For the different width of the retaining wall, the plane strain block is inserted in the symmetric plane. By optimizing all parameters, the maximum value of active earth pressure is calculated. In order to verify the validity of the new expressions obtained by the paper, the solutions are compared with previously published solutions. Agreement shows that the new expressions are effective. The results of different parameters are given in the forms of figures to analysis the influence caused by nonlinear strength parameters.
Comparative analyses of a shield building subjected to a large commercial aircraft impact between decoupling method and coupling method are performed in this paper. The decoupling method is applying impact force time-history curves on impact area of the shield building to study impact damage effects on structure. The coupling method is using a model including aircraft and shield building to perform simulation of the entire impact process. Impact force time-history curves of the fuselage, wing and engine and their total impact force time-history curve are obtained by the entire aircraft normally impacting the rigid wall. Taking aircraft structure and impact progress into account some loading areas are determined to perform some comparative analyses between decoupling method and coupling method, the calculation results including displacement, plastic strain of concrete and stress of steel plate in impact area are given. If the loading area is determined unreasonably, it will be difficult to assess impact damage of impact area even though the accurate impact force of each part of aircraft obtained already. The coupling method presented at last in this paper can more reasonably evaluate the dynamic response of the shield building than the decoupling methods used in the current nuclear engineering design.
