In LNG Tank, it is very important to measure the strain in Membrane by theoretical and experimental stress analysis. In this paper, perform the test about strain gage, thermal sensor and lead wire to make clear the properies. The test results conclude that stress measurement by strain gage must consider the effect of many factors to measure strain acculately. The corrections should be made on apparent strain, lead wire length and Membrane shape. It is also important to measure the temperatures accurately at the strain gage location

This paper prescribed the structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to tensile pre-strain. The effects of pre-strain on the mechanical properties of API 5L X65 pipe were substantially investigated through a variety of the experimental procedures. Axial tensile pre-strain of 1.5, 5 and 10% was applied to plate-type tensile specimens cut from the pipe body prior to mechanical testing. Tensile test revealed that yield strength and tensile strength were increased with increasing tensile pre-strain. The increasing rate of the yield strength owing to the pre-strain is greater than that of the tensile strength. However, the pre-strain up to 5% had a little effect on the decreasing of the fracture toughness. The structural integrity of the API 5L X65 pipeline subjected to large plastic deformation was evaluated through the fitness-for service code.

Static restoration during hot interrupted deformation of 304 stainless steel was studied in the temperature range from 900 to 1100$^{\circ}C$ under various strain rate of 0.05∼ 5/sec and pass strain of 1/4∼3 times peak strain. The static restoration was dependent on the pass strain, deformation temperature and strain rate. Fractional softening(FS) values increased with increasing strain rate, deformation temperature and pass strain. Recystallization kinetics was well explained by the Avrami equation and the time for 50% recrystallization was evaluated using equation of t0.5=2.01${\times}$10-10$\varepsilon$-.156$\varepsilon$ -0.81Dexp(196.66/RT)
The performance of a fiber Bragg grating strain sensor constructed with 3$\times$3 coupler is investigated. A 3$\times$3 coupler Mach-Zehnder (M/Z) interferometer is used as wavelength discriminator, interrogating strain-induced Bragg wavelength shifts. Two quadrature-phase-shifted intensities are synthesized from the as-coupled interferometer outputs, and digital arctangent demodulation and phase unwrapping algorithm are applied to extract the phase information proportional to strain. Due to the linear relation between the input strain and the output of quadrature signal processing, signal-fading problems eliminated. In the experiment, a fiber grating that was surface adhered on an aluminum beam was strained in different ways, and the photodetector signals were transferred and processed in a computer-controlled processing unit. A phase recovery fo 7.8$\pi$ pk-pk excursion, which corresponds to ~650$\mu$strain pk-pk of applied strain, was demonstrated. The sensor system was stable over the environmental intensi쇼 perturbations because of the self-referencing effect in the demodulation process.

This study deals with damage detection in beam structure by using modal strain energy-based technique with three different sensor types: accelerometer, lead zirconate titanate (PZT) piezoelectric sensor and electrical strain gage. First, the use of direct piezoelectric effect of PZT sensor for dynamic strain response are presented. Next, a modal strain energy-based damage detection method is outlined. For validation, forced vibration tests are carried out on lab-scale aluminum cantilever beam. The dynamic responses are measured for several damage scenarios. Based on damage localization results, the performance of three different sensor types is evaluated.
The effect of acetic acid formation deficiency on recombinant E. coli fermentation was investigated using a mutant strain deficient in acetic acid formation. A mutant strain which does not grow under anaerobic conditions was isolated. The acetic acid production in this strain was negligible in aerobic batch fermentation. The cloned-gene expression in the mutant strain was higher than the wild-type strain. Fed-batch fermentations with controlled specific growth rates were carried out in order to compare the cloned-gene expression between the wild-type and the mutant strains. The expression decreased along with the specific growth rate in both strains. The cloned-gene expression in the mutant strain was 60% higher than in the wild-type strain at the same specific growth rate.

Polarization mode converters have been produced by utilizing Ti:LiNbO$_{3}$ channel waveguide and strain-optic effect. Shear strain for periodic perturbations of optical channel waveguides and phase matching can be obtained by an evaporated periodic SiO$_{2}$ thin film at 300.deg. C. The electrodes located on the either side of waveguide provide a means to electro-optically tune the wavelength for maximum polarization conversion via the electrooptic effect. The maximum conversion effeciency was observed at 21.deg. C for V=0 and 46.deg. C for V=30V aro the device having 7 .mu.m waveguide wiith and 350 periodic pads. The dependence of the number of pads on conversion efficiency was observed experimentally.fficiency was observed experimentally.
Rhizobium japonicum was isolated from the nodule of soybean root grown at the reclaimed tidal land in Kang-Wha island. The effect of pH and salt concentration to the viability of the isolated strain were examined in relationship between microbial growth and accumulation of PHB. Optimal pH value for the good viability of the isolated strain was 7.0 and also, at 5.0 and 6.0 viability was favorable to large extent, but 9.0 was unfavorable. Examined the effect of salt concentration treated two times as of the salinity in the reclaimed tidal land, viability of the isolated strain showed about 30 to 40%. And also in treatment with NaCl(40g/l) whatever the pH value adopted, viability was mostly less than 10%. The amount of accumulated PHB was relatively high at low pH value(5-6) and at high salt concentrration, respectively.

The objectives of this study are to estimate the strengthening effect of concrete column strengthened with CFS and to provide basic guideline for the strengthening design with laminated composite materials. Analysis stress-strain model of laminated CFS is presented based on laminate theory. This model has been implemented in the algorithm of evaluating confinement effect of CFS. From results of the algorithm, stress-strain relationship of confined concrete is obtained. Using this stress-strain relationship, section analyses of circular and rectangular concrete columns strengthened with CFS are carried our, and load-moment interaction and load-ductility curves of the columns are obtained. To evaluate the strengthening effects of CFS, parametric study is also conducted for the angle of ply, thickness of CFS, shape of section, and reinforcement ratio. Based on this investigation, design recommendations and basic guidelines for the strengthening design with CFS are proposed.
