  • This paper investigated children's learning process concerning age and gender, two of the most apparent social roles. The subjects of the study were 72 Korean preschool children between three to five years of age. The Study was designed to examine problems of developmental sequence and horizontal decalage in understanding of these social roles. Two five-step knowledge sequences of age growth and sex constancy were administered utilizing skill theory (Fischer, 1980). Each step in a sequence had different stories of age or sex role with increasing cognitive complexity, but the two sequences were equivalent in complexity. The children were tested under two different assessment conditions:high support condition of elicited imitation and low support condition of free play and the best story. The findings show that, the understanding of age and sex roles develops through the predicted five-step sequences. The understanding of age role seems to develop earlier than that of sex role although the developmental patterns of the two roles are similar. Variations in the children's performances under different conditions were dramatic, especially for the older children.

  • This study investigated the effect of soil-structure interaction (SSI) on the response of base-isolated buildings. Seismic isolation can significantly reduce the induced seismic loads on a relatively stiff building by introducing flexibility at its base and avoiding resonance with the predominant frequencies of common earthquakes. To provide a better understanding of the movement behavior of multi-story structures during earthquakes, this study analyzed the dynamic behavior of multi-story structures with high damping rubber bearing (HDRB) behavior base isolation systems that were built on soft soil. Various models were developed, both with and without consideration of SSI. Both the superstructure and soil were modeled linearly, but HDRB was modeled non-linearly. The behavior of the specified models under dynamic loads was analyzed using SAP2000 computer software. Erzincan, Marmara and Duzce Earthquakes were chosen as the ground motions. Following the analysis, the displacements, base shear forces, top story accelerations, base level accelerations, periods and maximum internal forces were compared in isolated and fixed-base structures with and without SSI. The results indicate that soil-structure interaction is an important factor (in terms of earthquakes) to consider in the selection of an appropriate isolator for base-isolated structures on soft soils.

  • In this paper, we present the results of a study of lessons learned from the life of Caleb (Cal), a significant character in John Steinbeck's "East of Eden." His life serves as a powerful example of the process of self-discovery, overcoming conflicts with self, others, and society. He emphasizes the importance of managing and understanding your emotions, learning to acknowledge and express them throughout your journey. He makes moral judgments while confronting desires and conflicts, and transparently demonstrates the importance of self-determination based on ethical decisions, while his honest expression and acceptance of his own emotions emphasizes the core value of emotion management and understanding. Additionally, his story emphasizes the clear importance of understanding and compromise in human relationships. We present a thorough exploration of these topics and consider how the lessons from Caleb's story can be applied to our everyday lives. As a result of the analysis in this paper, we expect to gain insight into how these lessons can be applied and put into practice.

  • This study proposes a method of generating steel house shop drawing in an automated design method, reducing construction manpower and period. With one hour fire-resistant approval code, reflecting work ability and efficiency, steel-framed house market is expected to extend from one or two story house to multi-purpose facilities up to four story height. More models have been constructed in this system than the first appearance of fire-resistant approval in Korea in 1997 Also, cost estimation of components such as frame walls, roof trusses and floors is obtained with shop drawings. Also, the lack of suppliers of steel framed house shop drawing and unstandardized drawing method get constructors have difficulty in understanding its design. In steel framed house industry, shop drawings are essential part in building and constructing framework and they have major effects on construction deadlines and expenses. By exploring method of shop drawing automation, this study aims to optimize work flow with a standardized drawing method. The proposed system can be applied to manufacturing automation in domestic industry of factory-built panelizing method in the near future.

  • Storytelling plays a very important role in emotional marketing recently. Storytelling marketing emphasizes a unique story and mythical meaning of the product, rather than its practical function. This is a faithful reflection of what the Dream Society has proposed. In this article, we are researching the consumption value system, and analyze various cases focusing on a coffee advertisement. In particular, by delivering a story, we will concentrate on advertising that appeals to utopian values and discusses the actual impact that it brings. If we communicate utopian values to consumers through various stories, business effects will be maximized, which will strengthen the brand image. The originality of this paper is to discuss the theory of consumption value system positively with the concept of storytelling. Therefore, we will draw conclusions as to which orientation is most ideal for storytelling in advertising. Understanding these business models will help you build an effective marketing strategy for the Dream Society.

  • The purpose of the present study was to investigate developmental trends and relationships between justice and friendship. Four different interviews were administered individually to fifty 4-to 8-year old children. In the Justice domain, the interviews consisted of open-ended questions devised to investigate the children's understanding of justice and a hypothetical story dilemma based on Damon(1977). In the friendship domain, the interviews consisted of open-ended questions based on Bigelow(1975; 1977) and Damon(1977) and a hypothetical story dillema based on Selman(1981). The developmental stage of each concept was determined through content analysis of the responses each child. Statistical analysis of obtained data was by percentage and Goodman-Kruskal's ${\gamma}$. * The results showed that children's conceptions of justice and of friendship developed in an age-related manner during early and middle childhood. While there was a significant correlation between children's conceptions of justice and friendship, this result was due to age-relatedness. The results of the present study support a domain specific approach to social cognition.

  • The response of multi-story building structures to lateral loads, mainly due to earthquake and wind, is investigated for preliminary design purposes. Emphasis is placed on structural systems consisting of rigid and braced steel frames. An attempt to gain a qualitative understanding of the influence of bending and shear stiffness distribution on the deformations of such structures is made. This is achieved by modeling the structure with a stiffness equivalent Timoshenko beam. It is observed that the conventional stiffness distribution, dictated by strength constraints, may not be the best to satisfy deflection criteria. This is particularly the case for slender structural systems with prevailing bending deformations, such as flexible braced frames. This suggests that a new approach to the design of such frames may be appropriate when serviceability governs. A pertinent strategy for preliminary design purposes is proposed.

  • The response of single story buildings and other case studies are investigated to observe trends in response and to develop a better understanding of the impact of some design parameters on the seismic response of CBF. While it is recognized that many parameters have an influence on the behavior of braced frames, the focus of this study is mostly on quantifying energy dissipation in compression and its effectiveness on seismic performance. Based on dynamic analyses of single story braced frame and case studies, it is found that a bracing member designed with bigger R and larger KL/r results in lower normalized cumulative energy, i.e., cumulative compressive energy normalized by the corresponding tensile energy (${\sum}E_C/E_T$), in both cases.
