Thermal Characteristics of a Solar and Gas-fired Receiver (태양열과 가스 연소열을 복합 적용한 흡수기의 열특성 연구)

  • The Dish/Stirling system with the Stirling engine is currently used to convert solar energy directly to electrical energy successful operation of dish/Stirling system is supported by hybrid system, which will allow continuous operation driven by solar and combustion heat ins. The hybrid Receiver has to be provided with an additional combustion system. The heat pipe receiver and conbustion system were manufactured and tested for thermal characteristics of receiver. Maximum temperature difference along the heat pipe surface is $200^{\circ}C$. Emission measurements showed low NOx values of 28 to 46 ppm and very high CO values of 18 to 201 ppm.

  • This paper compares the output power of different types of small Stirling engines in conjunction with the utilization of low grade thermal energy. A series of experimental measurements were performed to assess the output power of each engine under different conditions of the temperature difference between the hot and cold ends as well as applied weight. Results are presented in terms of torque and output power per heat transfer area. Among tested, the MM-7 engine produced the highest power of 4.455mW ($321mW/m^2$) under a temperature difference of $40^{\circ}C$.

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental feasibility study on low-temperature differential Stirling engines with water spray heat transfer. The water spray enhances the efficiency of the heat transfer from heat sources to the engine and reduces the performance degeneration due to the dead volumes of conventional heat exchangers. A test Stirling engine was developed and an experiment was conducted to determine the characteristics for the initial start-up, steady-state operation, and power output for various flow rates and temperatures of hot supply water. The test results showed that larger flow rates led to reductions in the minimum working temperature of the hot water at start-up. During a series of steady-state operations, higher flow rates and temperatures increased the working speed. Furthermore, the work per cycle and power output were also increased. Eventually, the test Stirling engine had a power level of 0.05 W. Based on this, further research will be conducted to obtain a higher power output and investigate various applications.

  • Free-piston Stirling engines (FPSEs) have attracted much attention in the renewable energy field as a key device in the conversion from thermal to mechanical energy, and in the recycling of waste energy. Traditional Stirling engines consist of two pistons that are connected by a mechanical link, while FPSEs are formed as a vibration system by connecting each piston to a spring without a physical link. To ensure the correct design and control of operations, this requires elaborate dynamic-performance predictions. In this paper, we present the performance-prediction methodology using a linear and nonlinear dynamic analytical model considering the external load of FPSEs. We perform linear analyses to predict the operating point of the engine using the root locus technique. Using nonlinear analysis, we also predict the amplitude of pistons by performing numerical integration considering both the linear and nonlinear damping terms of the external load. We utilize the predicted dynamic behavior to predict the engine performance. In addition, we compare the experiment results and existing model predictions for RE-1000 to verify the reliability of the analytical model.

  • 잠수함추진방식은 크게 원자력 추진과 재래식 추진으로 나눌수 있다. 최근에는 재래식 추진방식과 하이브리드 개념으로 운용될 수 있는 AIP(air independent propulsion)방식도 활발히 연구되고 있다. AIP 추진으로는 폐회로 디젤기관추진(closed cycle diesel engine propulsion), 연료 전지추진(fuel cell propulsion) 스터링기관추진(stirling engine propulsion) 및 폐회로터빈추진(closed cycle turbine propulsion)등이 있다. 이러한 잠수함 추진체계에 대해 앞으로 크게 세부분으로 나누어 그 현황과 발전추세를 살펴보고자 한다.

A Second-Order Adiabatic Analysis Method of Stirling Engines Based on the Approximate Analytical Solution (해석적 근사해에 근거한 스터링기관의 2차단열해석법)

  • To predict performances of Stirling Engines, a second-order analysis method has been developed. The present method which is based on the approximate analytical solution to the Ideal Adiabatic Model includes major loss mechanisms due to finite heat transfer and flow friction. Comparison of calculated results with previously reported study for a specific engine shows reasonable agreements and a possibility of being used for basic designs. Also, predicted performances with repect to engine speeds are consistent with experimental data in trend. To improve the prediction capability of this method, it is needed that not only additional losses should be taken into account, but also fundamental characteristics of oscillating flow and heat transfer should be better understood.

  • A stirling engine is a mechanism used to convert heat to power and operates on a closed regenerative thermodynamic cycle with compression and expansion of the working fluid at different temperature. The performance of a stilting cycle machine is a function of six independent parameters, namely; (1) speed N(r.p.m), (2) pressure of the working fluid p(Pa), (3) ratio of the temperature in the compression and expansion space ${\tau}(=T_C/T_E)$ , (4) ratio of the swept volumes in these two spaces K, (5) phase angle $\alpha$ and (6) dead volume ratio X. This paper describes the procedure and presents the results of computations carried out to establish the optimum combinations of these six parameters for maximum engine output for the machine acting as a prime mover, over a combined temperature range from $300^{\circ}K$ to $1000^{\circ}K$ and dead volume ratio X ranging from 0.1 to 2.0. The output of a stilting cycle machine can be expressed in terms of nondimensional power in several different ways. Four methods were studied in detail, the parameters optimized and design charts and engine power charts prepared. The results of this paper may be useful as a guide to the likely effects on the performance of some of the important design parameters and regenerator design.

  • 최근 저탄소 녹색성장 및 그린에너지 개발 정책에 힘입어 외연기관의 일종으로 Stirling Engine에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 스털링엔진은 크게 알파, 베타, 감마형의 3가지 방식으로 구분되어지며 그 중 감마타입 엔진의 설계가 용이하고 다양한 적용이 가능하다는 특징이 있음에도 실린더와 크랭크간의 접속거리 문제로 인하여 알파, 베타 타입에 비하여 용적을 크게 차지하는 문제가 있었다. 이를 해결하기 위한 방안으로 주로 알파형에 적용하는 Yoke crank를 적용하면 용적을 줄임과 동시에 실린더의 병렬화에도 유리하다. 금번 연구에서는 기존의 Ross Yoke crank 설계기법에서 나아가 감마형 스털링엔진의 Yoke crank 설계를 더욱 단순하고 효율적으로 적용할 수 있는 방법을 제시한다.
