The model of azimuth driving servo system with a flexible antenna in a microwave seeker has been derived in this paper. The validity of the model is verified by comparing the result of the model with that of experiment. It is found that one should consider an antenna as a flexible body in case of modeling the dynamics of the microwave seeker. It is also known that the effect of reducing backlash magnitude for extending the bandwidth in the system with a flexible antenna is smaller than that in the system with a stiff antenna. It is thought that the model-based design optimization of the microwave seeker will become possible by virtue of the derived model, when a weight reduction and a bandwidth extension are required.

Active compliance is often used in the control of robot manipulators for the implementation of complex tasks such as assembly, multi-finger fine motion, legged-vehicle adaptive control, etc. This technique balances the interactive force between the manipulator tip and its working environment with its position and velocity errors to achieve the operation of a damped spring. This paper investigates the effecft of passive compliance on system stability with regard to force feedback implementation for actively compliant motion. Usually it is understood that accurate position control require a stiff system. However, theoretical examination of control experiments on a legged suspension vehicle suggests that, if the control includes discrete-time force feedback, some passive compliance is necessssary at the legs of the vehicle for system stability. This can be an important factor to bl considered in manipulator design and control. A theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and experimental result, confirming the above conclusion, are introduced in this paper.
The aim of this study was to improve the vertical motion performance of floating marina structures and to optimize the shapes of the structures for the Korea coastal environment. The floating body is connected to a plate-shaped submerged body through a connecting line under the water that has a stiff spring that serves to reduce the heave response. This system, which has two degrees of freedom, was modelled to analyze the interaction between the floating body and the submerged body. The vertical motion of the two-body system was compared with the motion of a single body to verify that the system could perform as an optimized model.
The steady state response of a torsionally coupled system with tuned mass dampers (TMDs) to external wind-induced harmonic excitation is presented. The torsionally coupled system is considered as one-way eccentric system. The eccentricity considered in the system is accidental eccentricity only. The performance of single tuned mass damper (TMD) optimally designed without considering the torsion is investigated for the torsionally coupled system and found that the effectiveness of a single TMD is significantly reduced due to torsion in the system. However, the design of TMD system without considering the torsion is only justified for torsionally stiff systems. Further, the optimum parameters of a single TMD considering the accidental eccentricity are obtained using numerical searching technique for different values of uncoupled torsional to lateral frequency ratio and aspect ratio of the system. The optimally designed single TMD system is found to be less effective for torsionally coupled system in comparison to uncoupled system. This is due to the fact that a torsionally coupled system has two natural frequencies of vibration, as a result, at least two TMDs are required which can control both lateral and torsional response of the system. The optimum damper parameters of different alternate arrangements such as (i) two identical TMDs placed at opposite corners, (ii) two independent TMDs and (iii) four TMDs are evaluated for minimum response of the system. The comparative performance of the above TMDs arrangements is also studied for both torsionally coupled and uncoupled systems. It is found that four TMDs arrangement is quite effective solution for vibration control of torsionally coupled system.

The parallel-type mechanism provides more accurate and stiff motion than the serial-type mechanism. However, in case of using the haptic device, the performance of the force reflection can be deteriorated due to the singular points existing in workspace. In this paper, we propose a redundantly actuated parallel 3-DOF haptic device, which is singularity-free in the workspace and has an improved force reflection capability. In addition, we propose a new force distribution algorithm, which can reflect force of both high and low resolution, using two sets of actuator with different size. Redundant actuators are attached to the base frame in order to minimize the inertia of the system. Moreover, a wire and gear reduction system is employed to achieve high force reflection along with soft feeling. We confirm the performance of the force reflection capability throughout simulation.

Nowadays the marketing environment has become an important factor which should be seriously considered by all the managers of modern firms. The survivals of modern firms are basically influenced by the changes of marketing environment. Particularly, it is necessary for firms to pursue the rational and efficient managerial activities since the recent environment is characterized by the stiff competition and rapid changes. First of all, this paper is trying to theoretically examine how the environment of the marketing system has been changing in terms of different periods and macro-levels. Secondly, in order to understand the patterns of consumers' perceptions on the environmental changes, some hypotheses have been established and relevant data have been collected. And, in order to analyse the results of this study, the followings have been implemented : Pilot analyses on the experimental environment and variables, the selection of research methodology, the test hypotheses, and the summary of the results. Finally, some practical implications have been suggested in order to help marketing managers formulate the efficient marketing strategic.

There has been much effort to find suitable methods for structural analysis in the mid-frequency region where traditional low frequency methods have increasing uncertainties whilst statistical energy analysis is not strictly applicable. Systems consisting of relatively stiff beams coupled to flexible plates have a particularly broad mid-frequency region where the beams support only a few modes whilst the plate has a high modal density and modal overlap. A system of two parallel beams coupled to a plate is investigated based on the wave method, which is an approximate method. The wave model is extended from a single-beam-plate system, to a plate with two identical beams which is modelled using a symmetric-anti symmetric technique. Experimental results such as powers and energy ratios show the validity of the analytical wave models.
This study describes the Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) certification policy for approving the use of Type II, III, and IV deicing/anti-icing fluids on small category airplanes. These fluids can be characterized as non-Newtonian, pseudo-plastic fluids, also known as "thickened" fluids. Deicing fluids are used before takeoff to remove frost or ice contamination, while anti-icing fluids are used before takeoff to prevent frost or ice contamination from occurring for a period of time(referred to as "holdover time") after application. Thickened deicing/anti-icing fluids can affect airplane performance and handling characteristics and their residue may cause stiff or frozen flight controls. This study also describes an approval process that may be used by type certificate holders and applicants for a type certificate under parts 23 to support operational use of these fluids on their airplanes.

Enhancement of numerical algorithms for low speed compressible flow will be considered. Contemporary time-marching algorithm has been widely accepted and applied as the method of choice for transonic, supersonic and hypersonic flows. In the low Mach number regime, time-marching algorithms do not fare as well. When the velocity is small, eigenvalues of the system of compressible equations differ widely so that the system becomes very stiff and the convergence becomes very slow. This characteristic can lead to difficulties in computations of many practical engineering problems. In the present approach, the time-derivative preconditioning method will be used to control the eigenvalue stiffness and to extend computational capabilities over a wide range of flow conditions (from very low Mach number to supersonic flow). Computational capabilities of the above algorithm will be demonstrated through computation of a variety of practical engineering problems.

The effects of suspension stiffness on the reaction load of the gearbox suspension for a three-point suspension wind turbine drive train were investigated by finite element analysis. The reaction forces of the gearbox suspension appear to increase as the gearbox suspension stiffness increases; however, the main bearing stiffness has a reverse effect on the reaction forces. The influence of the gearbox suspension stiffness is greater than that of the main bearing. Since the suspensions must provide the gearbox with proper support, it is not practical to use soft gearbox suspension for small reaction forces. It is more feasible to use stiff main bearings. As a guideline for the main bearing stiffness in the present study, we propose a relative stiffness of 100-150% of the reference.
