  • Taking the East-Hwasung area as the case, this study first builds gridded population data based on the municipal population survey raw data, and then measures, by way of GIS tools, the major urban spatial variables that are thought to influence the composition of the regional population. For the purpose of comparison, the urban models based on the Genetic Algorithm technique and the regression technique are constructed using the same input variables. The findings indicate that the GA output performed better in differentiating the effective variables among the pilot model variables, and predicted as much consistent and meaningful coefficient estimates for the explanatory variables as the regression models. The study results indicate that GA technique could be a very useful and supplementary research tool in understanding the urban phenomena.

  • This study examined that how precisely MFCC, LPC, energy, and pitch related parameters of the speech data, which have been used mainly for voice recognition system could predict the vocal emotion categories as well as dimensions of vocal emotion. 110 college students participated in this experiment. For more realistic emotional response, we used well defined emotion-inducing stimuli. This study analyzed the relationship between the parameters of MFCC, LPC, energy, and pitch of the speech data and four emotional dimensions (valence, arousal, intensity, and potency). Because dimensional approach is more useful for realistic emotion classification. It results in the best vocal cue parameters for predicting each of dimensions by stepwise multiple regression analysis. Emotion categorizing accuracy analyzed by LDA is 62.7%, and four dimension regression models are statistically significant, p<.001. Consequently, this result showed the possibility that the parameters could also be applied to spontaneous vocal emotion recognition.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of physical activity on bone mineral density(BMD), and osteoporosis risk factors in Korean women. A convenience sample of 115 women completed the survey questionnaire which included the items of physical activity, osteoporosis risk facors, and demographic background. Distal radial BMD was evaluated using DTX-200. The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, t-test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, logistic regression, ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression by SPSS WIN. The sample ranged in age from 31 to 78 years(mean=47.67 old). 91.8% were married, 72.2% were housewives, and mean monthly income was 1,094,900won. Mean explain of the women was 1.21MET, and 50.4% of the women were in the physically inactive group. Brisk walking and mountain climbing were frequently cited activities. 1.8% of the subjects smoked, and 27.5% used alcohol. Average daily intake of milk was 1.17 cups and that of caffeine, 1.13 cups. Age, body weight, monthly income, BMI, education level, duration after menopause, menstration status and caffeine. intake were correlated with BMD. In the relationship between the physical activity and BMD, the physically active group showed a higher level of BMD than the physically inactive group. Significant MET decreased was noted with an age increase. In the stepwise multiple regression analysis, body weight, duration after menopause, and the number of children were identified as the most important risk factors. Conclusively, physical activity could be a beneficial effect in the reduction of osteoporosis in Korean women, considering a positive relationship between physical activity and radial BMD.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the level of depression and dysphagia among the community-dwelling older adults and to find the relationships between depression and dysphagia. The study was cross-sectional survey and participants were 159 older adults above 65 years of age recruited by convenience sampling in two cities. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and Stepwise multiple regression. According to results, the average score of participant's depression were 4.56. There was a significant correlation between depression and dysphagia. Multiple regression analysis showed that self-rated health status(𝛽=-.210, p=.019), dysphagia(𝛽=.202, p=.006), number of chronic diseases(𝛽=.188, p=.015), and oral condition(𝛽=-.174, p=.041) were significant factors of depression. These variables explained 23.9% of depression. Therefore, effective health management strategies considering self-rated health status, dysphagia, chronic diseases, and oral condition should be established to reduce depression in the elderly.
