Estimation and Validation of Taper Equations for Three Major Coniferous Species in Gangwon and North Gyeongsang Provinces of South Korea

  • This study was carried out to estimate the parameters of stem taper functions, to figure out the best taper model by species, and to compare with previous studies by species, targeting on the stemmed tree samples collected from the Korean red pine (Pinus densiflora), Korean white pine (Pinus koraiensis), and Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi ) stands in Gangwon and North Gyeongsang provinces of South Korea. The seven widely used models were applied in this study, and Muhairwe 1999 model for Korean red pine and Korean white pine and Kozak 2002 model for Japanese larch were evaluated as the best model for each species according to the fit statistics and the predicted stem form comparison. In addition, the predicted diameter was suitably fitted when comparing the previous studies, and the values were more appropriate following stem taper according to neiloid, paraboloid, and cone parts by species. Consequently, the estimation of this study was considered to represent the stem taper well. When comparing stem taper of three species, the diameter was largest in Korean white pine. Overall, the taper models of this study are judged to be useful for estimating stem form and volume computation of Korean red pine, Korean white pine, and Japanese larch.

갈참나무 수엽의 사료가치 및 생엽량 추정에 관한 연구 ( Nutritive Value and Biomass Estimation of Oriental White Oak ( Quercus aliena Blume ) Browse )

  • Browse from oriental white oak(Quercus aliena Blume) was analysed for nutritive value and biomass estimation. The content of cmde protein was high on August and September. NDF, ADF and lignin contents were increased with progressing the seasons but IVDMD, TDN, DE and ME levels were not different from the variation of seasons. Tannin content was high on May and June. Basal stem diameter $\times$ height of tress was highly correlated with browse dry weights(r=0.80**) and the linear regression equation are the follows; Y = 8.23 + O.57X(Y = browse dry weight(g), X= basal stem diameter $\times$ height(cm)). Using the traditional cutting method, the amounts of browse was determined as 823 g dry weight per tree, while the new method by the above equation gave a similar results, i. e., 793 g dry weight per tree. The possibility of browse biomass estimation of oriental white oak by the basal stem diameter $\times$ height index was found.

  • 왕골 육종을 위한 형질상호간의 유전관계를 조기에 추정하고 효율적인 선발을 위한 기초자료를 얻고자 국내수집종 64품종을 공시하여 유전력, 표현형상관, 유전상관, 환경상관을 조사한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 7개 형질에 대한 유전력 중 대부분의 형질에서는 높았으나 건피수량에서 만은 다소 낮게 평가되었다. 2. 형질상호간의 상관관계는 경장은 건수중과 건피수량에서, 경의 직경 역시 건수중과 건피수량에서 가장 높은 유의차로 정의 상관을 보였다. 3. 수량과 타형질과의 상관이 가장 높았든 형질은 경장, 경의 직경, 건수중이었으며 경로계수의 분석결과도 이들 형질의 직접효과가 가장 높았다.

Mass Propagation of Plug Seedling using Stem Cutting and Their Tuber Yield in Potato

  • For the mass production of plug seedlings in cultivar ‘Dejima’ potato (Solanum tuberosum L.) the optimal apical cutting diameter for rooting and rapid multiplication of stem cuttings in hydroponics were determined. In addition, the best planting date was predicted to increase tuber yield of plug seedlings at fall cropping in Cheju-Do, Korea. Days to initial rooting decreased as the cutting diameter was reduced. Plant height, leaf number, root length and root weight per plant were favorable as the cutting diameter was small. The ideal cutting diameter was 1-2 mm in this experiment. In the hydroponic cultures, the Japanese standard (JS) nutrient solution was the most effective for multiplication of stem cuttings. It was able to propagate more than 20 times a month from a single mother plant. Viability of plants, which were derived from plug seedlings using stem cuttings, was excellent when transplanted to the field. The number of tubers and tuber yield in both of the plug seedlings and seed potato planting plots were high when planted on 25 August. The number and yield were reduced when planted on 15 August, 5 September and 15 September. The degree of decrease of tuber yield in the plug seedling planting plot however, was lower than that of seed potatoes when the planting date was late. In the case of small tubers (under 30 g), the number of tubers and tuber yield were evidently increased in the seed potato tuber planting plot; the yield of large tuber (over 80g) in the plug seedling planting plot was higher than that of the seed potato. The total tuber yield per plant in the plug seedling planting plot was less than that of the seed potato; therefore, in order to increase tuber yield it was necessary to increase field plant density.

구기자의 가지 및 열매의 특성에 관한 연구 (Physical Characteristics of Stem and Fruit of Lycium Chinense Mill)

  • Physical characteristics of stem (ile., length and diameter) and branch, and detachment force of mature and immature fruits of 12 species of the Lycium chinese Mill at a cultivar were determined. The number of stems and branches were counted after the first and second pruning of each plant. Length and diameter of the stem were average of 113.5 cm and 9.5 mm for 12 species of the Lycium chinese Mill, respectively. Average number of stem and number of branch after the first and second pruning in each plant were 5, 30, and 61, respectively. Diameter of major and minor axis of the fruit was average of 13.8mm and 8.3mm, respectively, and the sphericity of fruits was average of 0.7 for 12 species of Lycium chinese Mill. Detachment force of mature and immature fruits was average of 1 N and 2.7 N, respectively, for 12 species of the Lycium chinese Mill. The maximum and minimum detachment force of the mature fruits was 2.06 N and 0.39 N, respectively, and that of the immature fruits was 3.72 N and 1.27 N, respectively. The force-weight ratio showed a decreasing trend as the weight of fruit increasing for all samples.

Studies on Biomass for Young Abies koreana Wilson

  • This study was undertaken to compare the biomass of Abies koreana growing at two sites. A $10{\times}10m$ plot was established in each site of a natural stand in Mt. Jiri and a plantation in Gyeongsan nursery. Five trees of A. koreana were randomly selected in each site. The following traits were investigated from each tree : height, basal diameter, age, weight of stem, branches, and needles as above-ground traits and weight of total roots, horizontal roots, and vertical roots as below-ground traits. In Gyeongsan nursery, age of sample trees was negatively correlated with both height and weight of total stem, while height was highly correlated with weight of horizontal roots. There was high correlation between the basal diameter and weight of total stem, and between the basal diameter and weight of roots. In Mt. Jiri stand, most of the above-ground traits except age were significantly correlated with the below-ground traits. The linear regression equation between the cross section area of base (X) and the weight of total stem (Y) in Gyeongsan nursery was Y=12.66X-12.92, and correlation was significant ($R^2=0.89$). The linear regression equation between the cross section area of base(X) and the weight of total branches (Y) in Mt. Jiri stand was Y=25.51X+6.00, and correlation was highly significant ($R^2=1.0$).

  • 물오리나무와 사방오리나무의 뿌리 줄기 및 가지에 있어서 목부요소의 크기의 변이에 관해서 연구하였다. 도관요소의 직경은 뿌리에서 가장 넓고 그 다음은 줄기이며 가지에서 가장 좁다. 그런데 도관요소의 길이는 줄기에서 가장 길고 다음은 뿌리이며 가지에서 가장 짧은 것으로 밝혀졌다. 섬유의 직경 및 길이는 뿌리에서 가장 넓고 길며 그 다음은 줄기 가지의 순이다. 각 기관의 일정위치에서 중심부로부터 연륜이 증가함에 따라 목부요소의 크기는 뚜렷하게 증가되었다.

온실재배 토마토의 농직경 변화에 의한 관개시기 진단 (Diagnosis of Irrigation Time Based on Microchange of Stem Diameter in Greenhouse Tomato)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 온실재배 토마토에서 경직경의 경시적 변화와 식물체내 수분, 토양수분, 증산 및 일사량 등과의 관계를 정량적으로 파악하여 토마토 경직경의 monitoring에 의한 관개시기 진단 방법을 모색하는 것이다. 스트레인게이지로 제작한 경직경 미소변화 측정장치와 load cell을 이용하여 각각 경직경 변화 및 지상부 생체중의 변화를 1996년 7월 1일부터 16일까지 10분 간격으로 계측하였으며, 또한 토양 수분함량, 증산, 일사량 등도 동시에 관측하였다. 실험을 시작하기 전에 충분한 관개를 하였으며 이후는 외관상으로 위조증상이 나타나기 시작할 매 관개를 하였다. 생체중과 경직경은 매우 유사한 일변화를 보였는데 해뜰 무렵인 오전 6시경에 최대치에 이르고 이후 일사량과 증산의 증대에 따라서 감소하기 시작하여 중산이 최대에 이르는 시각보다 다소 늦은 오후 3시경에 최저에 달하였다가 일사 및 증산의 감소에 따라서 다시 증대하여 경직경의 변화와 체내수분함량의 변화와는 매우 밀접한 관계가 있었다. 수분부족 증상이 없었던 날들의 일당 경직경 증가량(DI) 및 생체중 증가량(DG)은 일사량과 높은정의 상관을 보였으나 수분부족장애를 받은 날들은 일사량에 따른 이들의 기대치보다 현저하게 낮아 생체중 및 경직경 증대가 매우 둔화되거나 오히려 감소하여 이를 기준으로 관개시기를 정확하게 판단하는 것이 가능하였다. 실험기간 중 7월 10일의 경우 외관상으로는 위조증상이 없었으나 증산량은 현저히 감소하여 식물체가 수분부족 상태였던 것으로 판단되었는데 이 날 토중 l0cm 및 20cm에서의 토양수분 포텐샬은 -0.2bar 이상으로 전일과 큰 차이가 없었으나 경직경 및 생체중의 증가는 현저히 둔화되어 수분 부족을 잘 반영하였다. 한편 낮 동안의 생체 중 최대감소량(ML)과 경직경 최대수축량(MC) 역시 일사량과 유의한 정의 상관을 보여 일사량 및 증산량 증대에 따라 체내 수분 손실량이 증대하고 이에 따라서 경직경이 감소하는 한계를 보였다. 그리고 식물의 수분장애가 심한 경우에는 일사량에 따른 이들의 기대치보다 현저하게 높았으나 수분장애가 미약한 경우에는 기대치와 구별하기가 어려워 이들을 기준으로 관개 시기를 정확하게 판단하기는 어려운 것으로 판단되었다. 따라서 관개시기의 판단에는 토양수분, MC 및 ML을 기준으로 하는 것보다 DG 또는 DI를 기준으로 하는 것이 효율적인 것으로 판단되었다.

지하 수위가 다른 조건에서 콩의 초장과 경태 모델링 (Modeling Growth of Canopy Heights and Stem Diameters in Soybeans at Different Groundwater Level)

  • Cultivating soybeans in rice paddy field reduces labor costs and increases the yield. Soybeans, however, are highly susceptible to excessive soil water in paddy field. Controlled drainage system can adjust groundwater level (GWL) and control soil moisture content, resulting in improvement soil environments for optimum crop growth. The objective of this study was to fit the soybean growth data (canopy height and stem diameter) using Gompertz model and Logistic model at different GWL and validate those models. The soybean, Daewon cultivar, was grown on the lysimeters controlled GWL (20cm and 40cm). The soil textures were silt loam and sandy loam. The canopy height and stem diameter were measured from the 20th days after seeding until harvest. The Gompertz and Logistic models were fitted with the growth data and each growth rate and maximum growth value was estimated. At the canopy height, the $R_2$ and RMSE were 0.99 and 1.58 in Gompertz model and 0.99 and 1.33 in Logistic model, respectively. The large discrepancy was shown in full maturity stage (R8), where plants have shed substantial amount of leaves. Regardless of soil texture, the maximum growth values at 40cm GWL were greater than the value at 20cm GWL. The growth rates were larger at silt loam. At the stem diameter, the $R_2$ and RMSE were 0.96 and 0.27 in Gompertz model and 0.96 and 0.26 in Logistic model, respectively. Unlike the canopy height, the stem diameter in R8 stage didn't decrease significantly. At both GWLs, the maximum growth values and the growth rates at silt loam were all larger than the values at sandy loam. In conclusion, Gompertz model and Logistic model both well fit the canopy heights and stem diameters of soybeans. These growth models can provide invaluable information for the development of precision water management system.

들깨 수량에 관여하는 주요 형질간의 상관관계와 그들 형질이 수량에 미치는 영향 (Relationship Between The Yield Components and Their Influence on the Yield of Perilla)

  • 들깨 수량에 영향하는 형질을 정확히 알기 위하여 형질상호간의 상관관계와 경로계수를 분석한 바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 경장은 경식경, 화방수, 경중과 유효분지수는 화방수와 높은 정의 상관을 그리고 유효분지수는 1,000입중과 화방수는 1,000입중과 각각 높은 부의 상관을 보였다. 2. 수량에 직접적으로 영향하는 형질은 경중, 화방수 1,000입중 유효분지수, 경직경등이다. 3. 간접적 효과는 경장대 경중, 유효분지수 대 화방수, 화방수 대 경중간에 높은 값을 보였다. 4. 들깨의 수량은 경장이 길고 유효분지수 및 화방수가 많으며 1,000입중과 경중이 무거운것일수록 수량이 많다는 사실을 알수 있다.
