  • This study was conducted from March 21 to July 8 in 2004 at JeJu Island to investigate the influences of split nitrogen application times on creeping bentgrass vegetation. Nitrogen rate was 20 kg/10a and it was applied from once to 5 times. The result obtained were summarized as follows; plant height was getting longer as nitrogen was split applied from once to 5 times. So it was longest at 5 times split nitrogen application, but it was no significance from 4 to 5 times. Root length, Minolta SPAD-502 chlorophyll meter reading value, leave and root weight n[e directly proportional plant height response. Degree of land cover Iud density of creeping bentgrass increased as nitrogen was split applied from once to 5 times. But degree of land cover md density of reed decreased. The number of reed species on decreased as nitrogen was split applied from once to 5 times. Then ranking of the dominant weeds were Portulaca oleracea Polygonum hydropiper and Stellaria media (at once split time nitrogen application), Portulaca oleracea, Polygonum hydropiper and Digitaria adscendens (at 2 split times nitrogen application), Digitaria adscendens and Portulaca oleracea Polygonum hydropiper, (at 3 split times nitrogen application), Portulaca oleracea, Poa annua and Polygonum hydropiper (at 4 md 5 split times nitrogen application). These results indicate that the optimum frequency of split N applications is four times for growth of creeping bentgrass in volcanic ash soils of Jeju island.

  • To establish the weed control in transplanted bed of Pinus koraiensis and Larix leptolepis, alachlor, simazine, terbutryn, pendimethalin, oxyfluorfen and amitrol/2,4-D/methabenthiazuron (ustinex) were used by soil treatment and foliage application at 7days after transplantion of seedling. From the of soil treatment, grasses such as Dimeria ornithopoda, Alopecurus aequalis, Agropyron tsukushiense and Setaria verticillata were effectively controVed by 85 to 90% at the respective recommended rate of oxyfluorfen, alachlor and terbutryn. At the application rate of recommentation simazine, oxyfluorfen, pendimethalin and terbutryn respectively controlled 70 to 80% of broad-leaved weeds such as Erigeron annuus, Portulaca olearcea, Cerastium arvense, Capsella bursa-pastoris, Commelina commuis, Chenopodium hybridum and Stellaria alsine. Ustinex and oxyfluorfen were very effective for the control of perennials such as Artemisia princeps and Calystegia japonica. Initial sympton of phytotoxicity and decrease of growth in P. koreaiensis and L. leptolepis were not found by soil treatment and those in P. koraiensis was not shown by foliage application of all tested herbicides. But L. leptolepis foliage-applied with ustinex, oxyfluorfen, terbutryn and pendimethalin was great in early phytotoxicity and severe in growth inhibition.

  • No-tillage direct seeding of rice is consumed less labor and oil energy by no plowing and rotary tillage. And it has other advantages of soil and water conservation and accumulation of organic matter on paddy surface due to crowded water foxtail (Alopecurus aequalis var. amurensis). When no-tillage seeding of rice, many water foxtail occurred in winter paddy field. In this experiment their covering degrees were 97.6% and 95.2% in clay loam and sandy loam paddy soils, respectively. Because of this, Stellaria alsine var. undulata, Cardamine flexuosa, Rorippa indica and Ixeris chinensis etc. annual and perennial wintering weeds occurrence was reduced. And annual weeds Chenopodium serotinum and Polygonum hydropiper that occurred early in spring were also reduced. As well as Echinochloa crusgalli var. praticola, Cyperus difformis, Monochoria vaginalis and Lindernia procumbens etc. summer annual weeds that occurred after irrigation were also reduced. In conclusion, no-tillage direct seeding of rice has another advantages of weed management by water foxtail.

  • This study was conducted in order to utilize the basic data for weed control by surveying the occurrence of weed species and the degree of damages caused by those weeds occurred in cultivated Ligularia fischeri fields. Survey was carried out five times, on May, June, July, August and October in 2013. The weed flora was composed of a total of 104 weeds, 37 families, of which 55 species were annual, 25 species were biennial, and 24 were perennial plants. Twenty-six exotic species were included as well. Dominance was the highest with Chenopodium album followed by Stellaria aquatica, Echiochloa crus-galli, Conyza canadensis, and Artemisia princeps etc. in order. In the PCA plot analysis, weeds occurred in cultivated L. fischeri fields were divided into three groups, Persicaria thunbergii-Bidens frondosa community, Chenopodium album community and Capsella bursapastoris community. The degree of damages in cultivated L. fischeri fields was investigated by weighing roots of L. fischeri. We found that 56% decreased root weight in no weeding plots comparing to that in weed management plots. We infer from this result that decreased roots will affect to the growing of L. fischeri in following year.

  • This study was carried out to find the spring-season weed growth status on account of different soil physicochemical properties due to continuous application of same fertilizer for 8 years at paddy field. The results examined on weed species, dry weight of weed, and weed growth status were summarized as follows. 1. 1-6 species of weed occurred in the plots treated by continueous application of different fertilizers. Cyperus serotinus could grow only in the phosphate defficient plots, however, in the N+P+K, N+P and N+P+K+compost plots, 4-6 kinds of weed occurred variously. 2. In the plots applied phosphate like as, P, P+K, N+P+K+compost, and N+P+K+plots, large amount of weed occurred apparently. 3. Positive correlation betwaen dry weight of Alopeculus aequalis, polygonum hydropiper and Chenopodium alburn and available phosphate content in soil was showed with high significance. 4. Available phosphate in soil affected weed growth and weed species composition among weed communities. Application of lime fertilizer tended to suppress the occurrence of Alopeculus aequalis. 5. Dry matter of polygonum Longisetum, Chenopodium album and polygonum hydropiper showed higher content of nitrogen, phosphate, calcium, and magnesium. Whereas those of Alopeculus aequalis, Cyperus Serotinus and Stellaria alsine were less.
