A steel strip reinforcement for the reinforced earth structures was recently developed to substitute the existing ribbed steel strip reinforcement. The developed reinforcement consists of the punched steel strip having dimension of 65mm width and 4.5mm thickness and the transverse steel bar for increasing bearing resistance. The punched steel strip has holes of 11mm diameter in every 50cm spacing with 2mm rising around perimeter of the holes. A series of shear friction tests and pull-out tests were carried out to evaluate the friction properties of the developed reinforcement. The results of these tests show that pull-out resistance of the developed reinforcement was significantly increased when the transverse steel bars are installed in the punched steel strip.

In this study, the steel strip reinforcement bolted with braced angles is displayed skin friction resistance as well as passive resistance through existing the steel strip reinforcement. To understand pullout behavior characteristics, friction effects between soil and reinforcement are evaluated with the width of reinforcement, magnitude of surcharge, and existence of passive resistance member through laboratory pullout test. To analyze interference effects for passive resistance member, various tests are carried on case that the number, the location, and the spacing of braced angles are different. Using this test result, pullout resistance factor is calculated to consider location of braced angles and degree of interference for spacing ratio.
Laboratory pullout tests were conducted to evaluate pullout performance of steel strip reinforcements with deformed steel bars as transverse members. The steel strip reinforcement has an installation hole to assemble a deformed steel bar. Jumunjin standard sand is used to form a relative density of ground model to 80%. Frictional resistance of steel strip reinforcement without transverse member increases sharply at the initial displacement and quickly decreases with displacement. Maximum frictional resistance increases linearly as normal pressure increasing, and soil-reinforcement interaction friction angle(${\rho}_{peak}$) of a steel strip reinforcement is estimated to $14.64^{\circ}$. Passive resistance increases with displacement and converge into maximum passive resistance in most cases. Maximum passive resistance increases linearly as normal pressure increasing irrespective of shape of the steel reinforcement. Pullout force of steel strip reinforcements with installation holes or transverse members largely increases about 4 to 7 times compared to frictional resistance force of steel strip reinforcements when embedment length($L_e$) of steel strip reinforcements is 500 mm. In the case of using 2 transverse members, interference effect is observed due to the spacing of 2 transverse members and location of assembly holes and transverse members.

The nonlinear behavior of single- and multi-story steel plate shear walls (SPSWs) strengthened with three different patterns of fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) laminates (including single-strip, multi-strip and fully FRP-strengthened models) is studied using the finite element analysis. In the research, the effects of orientation, width, thickness and type (glass or carbon) of FRP sheets as well as the system aspect ratio and height are investigated. Results show that, despite an increase in the system strength using FRP sheets, ductility of reinforced SPSWs is decreased due to the delay in the initiation of yielding in the infill wall, while their initial stiffness does not change significantly. The content/type/reinforcement pattern of FRPs does affect the nonlinear behavior characteristics and also the mode and pattern of failure. In the case of multi-strip and fully FRP-strengthened models, the use of FPR sheets almost along the direction of the infill wall tension fields can maximize the effectiveness of reinforcement. In the case of single-strip pattern, the effectiveness of reinforcement is decreased for larger aspect ratios. Moreover, a relatively simplified and approximate theoretical procedure for estimating the strength of SPSWs reinforced with different patterns of FRP laminates is presented and compared with the analytical results.
In this study, the large-scale pullout tests are conducted to evaluate pullout resistance of steel strip reinforcement with transverse members. The test results clearly showed the passive effect by normal stress. This suggests that both friction resistance and passive resistance by normal stress should be taken into account in the evaluation of pullout resistance for design. Therefore, The evaluation results confirmed that the developed steel strip reinforcement with transverse members depend heavily on passive resistance by normal stress.
This paper describes large scale pullout test results, in order to evaluate extensibility effect of strip-type reinforcement. The same test for ribbed steel strip reinforcement also is conducted to compare the friction resistance reinforcements' evaluation results. The pullout resistance of the ribbed steel strip reinforcement, which has a small cross sectional areas, was better than the friction resistance reinforcements' due to the bearing (passive) resistance. In case of friction resistance reinforcements, the pullout resistance of extensible reinforcement was better than inextensible reinforcement' even though they have a similar cross sectional areas.
Bamboo concrete bond behaviour is investigated through pullout test in this work. The bamboo strip to be used as reinforcement inside concrete is first treated with chemical adhesive to make the bamboo surface impermeable. Various surface coatings are explored to understand their water repellant properties. The chemical action at the bamboo concrete interface is studied through different chemical coatings, sand blasting, and steel wire wrapping treatment. Whereas mechanical action at the bamboo concrete interface is studied by developing mechanical interlock. The result of pullout tests revealed a unique combination of surface treatment and grooved bamboo profile. This combination of surface treatment and a grooved bamboo profile together enhances the strength of bond. Performance of a newly developed grooved bamboo strip is verified against equivalent plain rectangular bamboo strip. The test results show that the proposed grooved bamboo reinforcement, when treated, shows highest bond strength compared to treated plain, untreated plain and untreated grooved bamboo reinforcement. Also, it is observed that bond strength is majorly influenced by the type of surface treatment, size and spacing of groove. The changes in bamboo-concrete bond behavior are observed during the experimentation.

In this study, the steel strip reinforcement bolted with braced angles expected to mobilize skin friction resistance as well as bearing resistance is proposed. Laboratory pullout tests are conducted to investigate the characteristics of pullout behavior. From the test results, friction effects between soil and reinforcement are evaluated with the width of reinforcement, magnitude of surcharge, and existence of bearing resistance member. Further to analyze interference effects for bearing resistance member, pullout tests are also carried by varing the number, the location, and the spacing of braced angles. Based on the test results, pullout resistance factor is evaluated under the consideration of location of braced angles and the degree of interference for spacing ratio.
This paper presents the experimental results of flexural behavior of steel beam strengthened with fiber reinforced polymer plastic (FRP) strips subjected to static bending loading. Four H beams were fabricated strengthened with aramid strips and carbon strips and one control specimen were also fabricated. Among them two specimens were strengthened with partial length. The H-beams had two types of failure mode, depending on the length of the FRP strips:(1) strip debonding in beams with partial length reinforcement and (2) strip rupture in beams with full length reinforcement. From the test, it was observed that maximum increase of 16% was also achieved in bending-load capacity.
This paper describes interference effect analysis of transverse member based on large-scale pullout test results of steel strip reinforcement with '${\sqcap}$' type transverse member. The maximum passive resistance has a difference according to the installed location of transverse member, and the total pullout resistance is increased, when transverse member was closed to the wall facing. The degree of interference confirmed that the install location of transverse member cannot reflect the pullout force differential, if S/B is equal. However, The interference factor based on maximum passive resistance reflected the differential of maximum passive resistance and install location of transverse member.
